Master Sladeus, I welcome you to my humble plantation. I know its nothing compared to the grandeur of Rome but we do try to emulate the capitol as much as possible out here in the provinces. I do believe I can help you with your problem concerning suitable temple grounds for your god. All I ask in return is your help in launching a new venture that could make us both quite wealthy. |

I would like to expand my landholdings at the expense of my neighbor, who is not nearly as accommodating to the Romans as myself. I am willing to provide the government with suitable free land for a Roman temple in exchange for help ousting my neighbor off his holdings. Of course this doesn't include a personal honorarium to yourself, Sladeus. |

All right--Tell me more about your neighbor. Is he disloyal to the regime? I'll also need a disinterested party's account. |

He is known to be an ardent, almost militant supoorter of Wotan. I am certain that if you interview enough people you will find him involved in the recent mess involving the docks. |

I see. If he's responsible for that mess I will absolutely punish him. And building the temple on his land would be a great way to hoist him by his own petard. I do need independent confirmation, you understand. Mak, can you provide someone I can speak to on this matter? |

A woman dressed in the garb of the Amazon guard arrives at the dinner party plantation. She stands about 5"8 and has long brown hair that is tied back. She is athletic in appearance, muscular but not grotesquely so. (OOC: In real world modern standards she would be considered quite attractive, but I know Roman standards are different). She is armed with a sword and a quiver of arrows on her back, though if she has a bow on her it's concealed. Around her neck is a beautiful pendant that bears the crest of the Empress. Anyone who is in the high ranking circles would recongize this piece of jewelry to mean that the person wearing it is very close to the Empress, closer then just about anyone except the Emperor himself of course. Using a voice loud enough for anyone around to hear her she announces herself "I am Arria Livia Rhea. Frumentaria of the Amazon guard and I am looking for the prefect of this town." She awaits an answer without saying anything more. |

SJ -- let's play out the dinner party first. Unless Eamon invited a witness to the dinner party you can't find out anything else about that tonight, so we'll handle the dinner party stuff and then pick up the investigation after that when you'll have a chance to start talking to the appropriate people. I can think of several possible approaches to the investigation you might take, but they'll all have to wait until morning at the earliest. The players would all be aware that a frumentarius is an intelligence officer in the Roman army. Frumentaria is the feminine form. I don't remember if I mentioned it before in talking about the game, but about 50 years ago the emperess established an Amazon Guard. There are about half a legion's worth of them, and mostly they serve as bodyguards for female members of the imperial family or march in parades in the capital. The unit has never seen combat. Individual members of the Amazon guard do tours on the frontiers to get practical experience though, or as personal agents of female members of the imperial family, so it's not unheard of to have one show up in a border region like this. Oh, and there's no place to hide a bow in an Amazon Guard uniform -- Livia Rhea isn't carrying one at the moment. |

Sorry, Mak. The chronology's been so irregular to this point . . . I step forward toward Livia Rhea and bow to the Empress's crest. "I am Sladeus Ioannes, prefect of Drusi. How may I serve you and Her Majesty?" |

ooc: I meant to say she was about 5'3 not 5'11 so just pretend I typed that before in character "I was instructed by the Emperor to give you this" (hands him a note with the Emperor's seal on it. It essentially says that she was sent to preform an inspection of the city) "I apologize for showing up armed at a dinner, but I was informed of barbarians being in the area, and one can't be too careful with that." |

I put myself and my staff at your disposal for your inspection. Remember I'm quite new to this office and the business with the Temple of Venus was my first decision of any import. You can always edit the post to change your height. |

"We can worry about the details of the inspection later, it wasnt really urgent. IT could porobably wait till tomorrow. I believe the Emperor wants me to stay in this area for a bit anyway, and possibly help with the barbarians. I for one relish the oppertunity to hone my fighting skills, but such isnt the kind of talk for a feast such as this. Could you perchance introduce me to the host of this party?" Livia Rhea said with a polite smile. (I fixed the error in the pervious post so thats all taken care of) |

Well this is an embarassing oversight but I don't believe Eamon has named his character? He is a wealthy German landowner who's proven quite enchanted with Roman culture. A friend of our administration of this province--provided it profits him. We have been discussing several proposals he has made concerning ways to move in the directions of both my primary goal, which is improving Roman prestige and legitimacy in these parts, and his primary goal, which--and here I whisper in your ear to avoid giving offense--seems to be self advancement. |

She smiles at the whispered comment and whispers back "I know a little bit about that, but then don't we all in this day and age." she briefly strokes the pendent with the Empress's crest on it. Before saying outloud. "He does seem to know how to have a dinner party though. The food smells great." |
