I do dislike the Dodgers. They never should have left.

Not just O'Malley's fault. Also blame Moses and his gestapo tactics.

Yeah, Moses was a real shit. Deliberately designing the overpasses on the Long Island Expressway to be too low to allow bus traffic so he could keep the poor away from the beaches on the eastern part of the island... there was almost certainly a racial angle there too... what a vile man he was.

I can't believe O'Malley's in the Hall of Fame. A good thing I went last year, I've got half a mind to boycot it now.

If only the Browns and A's had moved to California before-hand. That would have undercut O'Malley's move and given the west coast teams that genuinely couldn't support themselves where they were. Earlier expansion would have been good too -- particularly since baseball's better late than never decision to integrate had so vastly increased the available majors-worthy talent pool.

Oh, I hate expansion. It means we never get any more pennant races between stacked rotations like Feller-Lemon-Wynn versus Ford-Reynolds-Raschi. As does the five-man rotation.

Don't get me started on Moses. How I loathe that man and what he did to NYC.

While you can make a case that expansion has gone too far now, I think the first expansions, taking the leagues from 8 to 10 teams each, were more than justified by the increased available talent pool and the growth in population and importance of areas unrepresented by the major leages. I also think the second round of expansion and introduction of regional divisions and divisional playoffs was good for the game. After that it gets murkier.

I think MLB's ideal set-up would be two ten-team leagues divided into two five-team divisions. Contraction based on seniority, please.

Can't do contraction based on seniority -- that's not fair to teams like the Rays who are successful on the field and represent important areas that would be left out entirely if we dropped back to the 20 teams of the early 60s.

The Rays are having their first ever good season following eight fifth-place and one fourth-place finishes. I'm glad it's not the fucking Red Sox in first but I'm not sure that rates being "successful on the field."

The good part of the country would still be well represented if we turn back the clock, and states that were left out of it in the old days but have become really important since like TX and CA still get a few franchises. For the rest maybe we'd see a return to the good old days of national teams--everyone rooting for teams from faraway large cities because they've got none of their own.
