So, I just read John Ringo's "The Last Centurion". Any one else read it? Anyone interested in a review or spoilers or anything? |

I've never read it but it always seemed interesting. I wouldn't say no to a down-and-dirty. |

John's a fun guy to have a drink with, but I kind of drifted away from his books after a while. Felt like I wasn't really getting anything new out of them, or at least nothing new that I liked. They did get more overtly political in a way that turned me off as time went on. |

I only read the one Posleen book--Watch on the Rhine. I didn't pick up any others because I find the idea of a bunch of flesh-eating monsters descending on the Earth and eating us by the billion too disturbing. I gather that there's more story to it than that in some of the other books--I know we get revenge on the Darhel for throwing us under the bus, and not just from WotR's epilogue, either--but I've been soured on it. And it's not like it was the best written book of all time, though I did find the back story of the Good German as told through the flashbacks extremely poignant. In fact I was probably reading the whole thing as much to get that story as for any other reason. |
