I just picked it up, and I'm really enjoying it. I think Slade is the only one who has read it, correct?

I think so. I also think that TR was in the middle of reading it, but he said that several months ago.

It's a great book, as was TSP.

I read it, liked it... liked 'The Sky People" a bit better, though.

I agree.

I think both neglected plot for setting--which is forgivable because after all setting was the shtick for their marketing. TSP had just enough plot to give a strong lead-up to a smashing conclusion. ItCotCK failed to deliver that conclusion--it touched on the answers to the questions it was supposed to resolve, then raised more questions, many more. My hope is that this was meant as a set-up for as-yet unannounced sequels, but in the absence of such announcements I'm not going to stomp around the Internet moaning "Evideeeence . . . " while sanctimoniously calling anyone else who can't see the "obvious" ridiculous.

I just passed the part where they discover the other 'artifact.' I enjoyed the inclusion of an alt-HT, but who was the other guy supposed to be? An Aussie named John?

I think I probably did too, but beneath the level at which I enjoyed TSP there's a lot to go before you get to the bottom of Good territory.
