Or, HT could do an AH-Romance. He's very good at those love scenes after all.

I do recall uchronia posting an AH bodice-ripper a few years ago.

Remember that HT drawing board spoof we found a couple of years ago? As I recall it had a section devoted to possible love scenes.

Why do you suppose he was so big on the gratuitous sex scenes, anyway?

1. He's a perv.

2. He's a historian, interested in every part of the human existence. Sex makes up a large part of that existence.

3. He's a professional writer, and sex can sell.

I'll let everyone make up their minds.

I don't think he's a perv, very few of his characters seem to have an unhealthy interest in the subject. There are exceptions, of course, like Veridovix, Katakolon, Edna Semphroch. I don't think his gratuitous sex scenes were based on some historical interest--they were out of proportion to their historical significance, were worse in his fantasies than in his AHs, and often did nothing to advance the plot. I don't think anyone bought HT books for the sex, his readers very commonly complained that the sex scenes were useless distractions. I guess the strongest argument that could be made for number three and it would be based on the assumption that he toned down the sex in response to his readers' criticism. But, and no offense to TR, I would have to say that I find none of those three at all convincing.
