What Does Silence Mean?; Request for Input/Reactioins

Quite a few people seem to have checked out the docs related to discussion topics in this forum, but very, very few have commented. I don't know how to interpret that. In some cultures, silence means, 'okay, no problem' and in others it means, 'I'm not comfortable with this, I don't agree'. Please jump in, offer comments, suggestions, say whether or not you'd want to write any of these eps, either alone or with someone else, indicate whether the ideas spark any desire to create artwork for the eps. Does anyone want to design a website to host and post the stories and artwork? Probably makes more sense to create a page on AO3 for the project where all the eps could be posted in order.

Or is it that everyone is just too busy to be engaged, to take on an ep or artwork, or offer to beta... if so, hey, that's the way life is, so just let us know. We all love this show and we'd all love to have a virtual season. But that's not the same as having the time to create it.

A project like this needs people to jump on board in order to get it done. As much as we might like to see this virtual season unfold, and the numbers of people checking the docs shows the interest is strong, I don't know if the silence means 'we're on track' or 'this isn't how I'd envisioned it to unfold'.

So what do you think? About the project in general. About the draft 2049 doc? About what you'd like to do to help make the season happen. Let's get the conversation going.

I'm going to say more as soon as I have the time - I'm just really tired today (just came home from work) and I guess I'll sleep in a while. Just wanted to let you know that I did read this and I'm going to comment ;)

Also, I checked out the draft for the season plan, but I didn't read all the way through it yet because it's a lot of text. But what I saw looked really good.

PS: I started to make a new design for this forum, but I'm not finished yet. Sorry I'm so slow, but a lot of stuff came up and I didn't have as much time as I thought I would.

Thanks, Flip. I understand the pressure of time and I know you've had a lot on your plate so there's sure no need for any apology. I appreciate your comments and contributions very much.

Well, I've actually attempted the talking thing, but for my part a lot of my silence is merely nothing to add. Though in some cases it's that I'm not sure how or where to approach things. If I'm being brutally honest, sometimes it feels like all these ideas are already set and any butting in would be just that butting in on something already planned.
Regardless, I'm ready and willing for whatever and whenever needed.

Marilyn, may I PM you?

Yes, of course you can PM me, chat on skype, or email me, or chat on google ... whatever works. :)

Believe me, things aren't 'set': clearly, I've been thinking a lot about the season but the plan is a stream of consciousness moving from one idea to the next, mostly trying to build on the little they gave us in season one or create rationales for things we really know nothing about ie Karl Urban said they'd started plotting season two with the two of them going over the Wall to find 'The Maker' aka Vaughan. But if people have other ideas they'd like to see incorporated, great.

I've not been sure what else to do to promote discussion and engagement. I've asked people what they'd like to see in the season and a couple of you replied, and I've tried to build that in; I've asked what interests people have and got about the same. Here, I'm asking for people to say whether the ideas are working for them, if there's an ep that grabs them, that they'd like to write or illustrate, if something's not the way they envisioned and only Sivi and flip have commented on the draft. Again I know people are busy and no harm no foul to just not have time or to have lost interest in the project. I appreciate your continued willingness to participate but I'm not comfortable assigning work to anyone ... I'm just a writer here like any other writer. I've worked on a season writing project for another fandom years ago so have tried to bring some of that experience to generating energy for this project but I'm not the project leader, and I'm worried that I may be offending people by doing too much, pushing too hard or ... I don't know. But in my experience, silence doesn't usually mean consent. There's no energy or enthusiasm in silence.

If you're an artist who's up for illustrating all the eps, great; if one or a few particularly grab you, that's great, too. I know one person said they like writing the 'home life' scenes, and I thought the Sandra background, or Rudy's background like what's in the lab and living quarters that gives insight into his past and how he feels about them might appeal to them. There are amazing writers in the group who I'd hoped would join in the discussion for plotting the season, generating case stories or eps showing dangers of tech or ... well, you see what I mean, and grab an ep or two or three.

Sorry, Mys, I'm not directing all of this response to you but to everyone who is reading but not commenting with the hope of generating more participation. I'm really grateful that you've commented and want to chat further.

Mys, sorry, should have checked other subjects before responding - you'd indicated interest in the John/Edward/InSyndicate story line so, for sure, if you imagined all this part of the story going a different way, having a different 'backstory', please, by all means, propose your vision of how it might all unfold.

I feel kind of the same way- when I saw outlines for episodes already on there, it was a bit overwhelming, and I wasn't sure where my ideas would be welcome.

Mostly, however, my silence has been that I literally do not have the brainpower to read that much and actually comprehend what I'm reading. I have been really overwhelmed lately since school just started last week and some other life circumstances. Once I get settled in my new routine, I'll hopefully have more time for ideas and such, but currently I'm burnt out on writing in general. But as I've stated elsewhere, I'd love to co-plan and co-write an episode sometime in the future.

(also part of the silence is that I reply in my head and that I, airheaded as I am, forget to actually TYPE what I'm thinking, so I don't realize that I haven't actually replied. XD)

Sounds like you've got a lot on your plate right now. I'd mixed up you and Mys' interests earlier, sorry. There's certainly room for the back stories and more domestic sub story lines thoughout the season. I'm sorry the draft of how the season might go felt as if it was all done and cast in stone. It's not. It's just that very few of you have contributed ideas over the past few weeks, virtually everyone signaling how busy RL is, so I thought it would help to draw from the mysteries outstanding at the end of the first season, along with the bits we've heard about where the second season might go, to look at how the season might unfold and to propose some ideas to fill in so much we don't know like why the Wall is there and what's on the other side. I never meant to overwhelm or give the impression that there was no room for discussion or reworking of the possibilities; I intended just the opposite. Good luck with what's happening at school and I hope it settles down soon so that you feel it's all a bit more manageable.

Thank you. Once I'm done applying to grad school, my life should settle down a little. :)

Yeah, I think September tends to be a very busy month for a lot of people, at least in the US. Thank you for all that you are doing to keep this project going. I really appreciate it. Your dedication is awesome and inspiring, and hopefully life stuff can settle down enough that I can actually get the energy to be as pumped about all of this as you are. =)

And I do want to clarify that I've always felt my thoughts are welcome, it's just that sometimes I'm not sure where exactly my ideas will fit in, especially with what I skimmed of the outline. I just wanted to let you know that I don't feel shut out. *hugs*

Sorry for my own silence. I've been back to work, and have been doing that thing for FR (which dragged on a lot longer than intended) in my free time, and even though I have a writer for that it takes a lot of editing/changing to end up how I want it ^_^; I think it's at some 40 pages in length, though it is in its final week. (then I just have to do art... if I ever get my damn tablet back)
anyway, hopefully I'll be more involved soon.
