I'll dig out the manual as I've no idea where RAW mode is on the 400D. :think:

From the menu button look for the Quality setting.

Literally Raw, as in unprocessed data. It is a dump to the memory card of everything captured by the sensor for each shot. Once copied to your computer the canon software can read it and allow you to control the colour balance, white balance, sharpness, tone and lots of other things. Once happy with the image it can then be converted to jpg or other suitable format to print or share.

The RAW files are uncompressed so are larger than the equivalent jpg and also take longer to save to the memory card.

Just a note that the August day has been cancelled. I believe this is due to the high number of cars on site for other business interests being held on the site.

That is a great shame but understandable. I agree it is most likely down to the number of ex-fleet and rental cars that go through the auctions there. I wonder why they are having to stockpile them though?

I'll update the calendar.
