Talking to a couple of people at Bruntingthorpe today a reduced show will be taking place next Sunday, now confirmed from the HP Victor XM715 website

"Jet Thunder August 27th 2017

Contrary to earlier postings – and with Mr David Walton’s kind permission – there will be a Cold War Jet Thunder Day on Sunday 27th August 2017 at Bruntingthorpe Airfield, Bath Lane, Bruntingthorpe LE17 5QS.

Some of the jewels of British aviation heritage will be on display and giving fast taxi demonstrations along the 2 mile runway. The participants expected: Victor K2 XM715, 2 x Blackburn Buccaneers, English Electric Canberra WT333, Vickers VC-10K ZD241, Jet Provost, plus the Delphin.

Gates open from 9am. Tickets £15 pp at the Gatehouse on the day. Children under 12 free when accompanied by an adult bearing a valid ticket."

Looks like the Lightnings and Nimrod will not be taking part nor will several others but it is a local event for me so I hope to be there.

Latest information from Bruntingthorpe:

"Open Days
IMPORTANT CHANGES TO AUGUST COLD WAR JET FAST TAXI DAY

As a working museum we endeavour to keep the aircraft in operable condition and to help us ‘exercise’ the aircraft we usually have two open days per year where any aircraft that are serviceable will carry out full power taxi runs along our main runway. This makes for an incredible spectacle and an ideal opportunity to get close to the aircraft.

However, due to the unprecedented level of automotive commercial activity on the airfield at this time, we have had to take the difficult decision to DOWNSCALE the planned August Open Day which was scheduled to take place on Sunday 27th August 2017. Whilst there won’t be a formal event on the day, we will still be exercising a small number of the aircraft. Please note that as this will not be a formal event there will not be any trade stands. Access for anyone wanting to still visit on this day will be allowed at a reduced charge of £15 per adult, under 16’s are free of charge.

We are sorry to disappoint so many regular attendees who we know look forward to the full scale taxi day events. It is currently expected that the normal Spring Open Day will take place as usual on Sunday 27th May 2018 however please do keep a watch on this space for future updates."

It's unfortunate, but as we have seen, the airfield is extremely busy at the moment. As much as we can't complain about a company being busy, and hopefully successful, here's to hoping they can put on a full show next year with lots of noise and the R/C stuff as well.

Weather forecast for Sunday is currently cloudy with little if any rain. As long as that doesn't worsen I'm planning to go.

A quite remarkable day. The event had been cancelled several weeks back, then last weekend it was reinstated but only as an informal day with reduced aircraft and no traders. I arrived at 08:45 and claimed my space on the busy crowd line. Mine is the chair on the left.

An hour or so later the car park was filling up.

But the catering was coping well.

The weather had been forecast as cloudy, we had clear blue skies and hot sun all day. The aircraft programme was reduced a little compared to previous days but we still had the VC10, Canberra (twice), two Jet Provosts (twice), two Buccaneers, the Delphin and Victor Meldrew. Unscheduled was a large glider landing, followed by its tow plane, both of which later took off again. I had a great time as did the perhaps three hundred others attending.

The latest addition to the Lightning fleet was on show too (clever paint job).
