Mark and I are having a few days in Wales, first visit to the Mach Loop. The weather is cold and windy but the scenery makes up for it.

Taken from the Cad East viewpoint today.

Nice pictures Colin, that looks a lot more exciting than the Dash 8s that take off over my village...

Thanks all. I've put a few more onto Flickr. I took hundreds of shots as but each type tended to follow the same line through the valley there is no point posting them all.

Hi all,

As some of you may have gathered, Colin and I have been spending a few days in Wales doing the Mach Loop. For those who don't know, the Mach Loop is the name given to an area of Wales where low level flying is permitted. it gets it's name from a nearby village called Machynlleth. What flies through the Mach Loop is totally unpredicatable, but regular visitors come from the nearby RAF Valley and the US airbase at Lakenheath.

So, Monday I arrived and was greeted with this -

This was pretty much the weather for the day. Far too low for anything to fly in, but we did spend a few hours talking to some others who had turned up, taking their advice and generally chatting about the area and all things to do with flying and airshows.

After booking in to our B+B Colin and I went for a walk to see some of the local scenery.

So then, Tuesday morning Colin and I were up at stupid O'Clock to make our way to the area called Cad East. This comprised of a drive down a narrow path which had a drop one side to the top of the valley followed by a 100 metre walk to the edge of the valley. It was very windy up there. After eventually setting up we waited................ And we eventually got our rewards. The others around us did say we had been spoilt for our first proper day. Not only did we get Hawks and F-15's, we also got a Hercules and an Airbus A400M.

Wednesday and Thursday we again went to Cad East. Although it was cloudy we still got some action. It was a wonderful experience that I would repeat maybe in a year or two.

Anyway, on with the planes. My pictures are not the best, but the experience makes up for that.
