I'm Ian and I have been building plastic model kits on and off since sometime in the 1950's.
I think I started on Airfix and possibly Frog aircraft, as I can remember making the usual Spitfires, Hurricanes, 190's, 109's,Stuka's etc plus the Red Baron Fokker Triplane. I can also remember making an Airfix galleon, possibly HMS Victory, and cars such as the Sunbeam Rapier. I later moved on to the Airfix motorcycles such as the Ariel Arrow and BSA C15, many of which were used as the basis for semi-scratch built renditions of various competition machines such as a Greeves scrambler, a BSA trials sidecar outfit and a dragster bike. Unfortunately none of these early models survived, the aircraft, having hung from the ceiling until my mother got fed up with dusting them, usually ended up being destroyed by penny bangers around Nov 5th, though one jet aircraft had a more interesting demise when an attempt was made to reach orbit with a sixpenny rocket stuffed up its jet pipe - it did not survive re-entry.
I then had a break from modelling before returning in my 20's when the Tamiya 1/12 F1 cars where my main subjects. Modelling periods continued on and off (more off than on) until I took redundancy/early retirement about 6 years ago. At this time I returned to modelling having digitised some of my fathers war-time photos which led me to try depicting one of the scenes using Airfix 1/72 and 1/76 kits. Research into this led me to the ATF forum and AMSIG and as the saying goes the rest is history.
I now build a more varied range of kits but my main interest has centred on trying to depict the built kits in 'interesting' diorama/vignettes rather than just building the kits themselves. I have also somehow become involved with a no of the originators of this site in displaying my models at various shows, with the side effect that my model stash has grown faster than I can build them.
I will post some images of my small collection of finished models from the modern era later.
I am currently trying out the use of the Blog function on this site. You can see my Blog here

I am currently trying out the use of the Blog function on this site as I was wondering if it might prove a possible alternate way of handling WIP type posts, especially for those who have multiple builds on the go (or those like me who start a build, stall and then come back to it later). As a blog can contain multiple threads it would allow all the posts for each build to be organised together without swamping the main board with many threads. The downside at present is that there does not seem an easy way to get to a members blog - the only way I have found is to select the member from the members list and the click on the Blog link.
