A new event not heavily advertised anywhere really.
Leeds East Airport (RAF Church Fenton) Church Fenton North Yorkshire LS24 9SE Sat 26th Sept 2015.
If a success this will be moved to a show slot in July and replaces the RAF Waddington Air Show on the circuit.
As I am looking for AMSIG to broaden our repotaire of events we exhibit at, this may be one to put on the calender for next year. Having read through all 41 pages of the HSE risk assessment there is nothing to worry us at least. There is a hanger for exhibitors where wind is not their friend. If more than three people attend then it becomes cheaper to exhibit than to attend the air show as a customer.
I am working on the Sat and would have gone to check it out

I saw that mentioned in I think it was the IPMS magazine . Saturdays are a non starter for me unfortunately or I would of jumped at the chance of going .....probably the last time to see the Vulcan.

Is that just for next year Tom , due to the runway repairs , or have they now pulled the Waddington Show for good

Hi Tom
Sounds promising. I should be able to visit the air show this year. Caroline will probably go with me and we might stay over, she has some family near Thirsk who need a visit.

Lifted from the trader application form for this year
"No charge for the first year, just a 25% commission on takings on the day. We shall establish the show, get a better idea of numbers then re-assess for 2016. We expect to take on the ‘RAF Waddington’ position in 2016 as this very popular air show is no more! We will be planning to slot into their July dates and operate over the whole weekend from 2016 onwards as we anticipate a significant increase in attendance."
It appears the runway repairs at Waddington will not be finished until the summer of 2016.

I know that air shows usually charge traders a lot of money for space but 25% of sales is way too much. Depending on what the trader is selling a gross profit of 50 % would be exceptional. So for every £100 of sales, £50 goes to pay for whatever the trader is selling and £25 to the organisers. The remaining £25 has to cover the remaining costs such as fuel, insurance, food and for some overnight accomodation, anything left is wages. If the trader is subject to VAT the situation is worse.
Offer that sort of deal to traders at a model show and there wouldn't be many traders attending.

That made my eyes water reading that commission figure ...ouch ! That would certainly put many a trade off attending.
Im wondering if the Show organisers are getting their wires crossed regards the Waddo Air Show . Yes it was cancelled for runway repairs this year and now also 2016 but Ive not seen any mention of the show NOT taking place from 2017 onwards. Hope they are not jumping the gun with this announcement of ""planning to slot into their July dates and operate over the whole weekend from 2016 onwards ""

True, but there hasn't been any confirmation that Waddington will take place in 2017 either. That said, I wish the organisers well and hope to report on a successful event.
Colin Still think they are charging traders too much though...

I will definitely be attending this event, not yet sure if Caroline will be joining me. Is anyone else interested in meeting up? They have an impressive line up of flying and static aircraft and other attractions. It will be one of the last chances to see Vulcan XH558 in the air and if you like helicopters a Huey and a Loach are booked, they must be the ones we had at Telford in 2013. Tickets have to be booked online in advance.

I'm not too far away from Church Fenton so might give it a go. It's the closest airshow to me and I hope that it continues to be hosted there. Yes, it is possibly going to be the last time many folk will get to see the Vulcan fly, unless they raise the £75,000 to do the final 2 day tour in October after Gaydon and Old Warden on the 4th October.

I will be there but Caroline won't, look out for a lonely short fat bloke wearing an AMSIG fleece, and a big grin when the Vulcan displays.
