Mark invited us again at the Bolton show yesterday.

Yew Tree Lane
Poynton
Stockport
Cheshire
SK12 1PU

Sat 10am - 5pm
Sun 10am - 4.30pm

Larger this year with specialists room, 2nd hand sales hall (for Ant) and Hot Food for Gary.

Just need to discuss who's coming, how much space we need and what format the table arrangement will be if we are doing demos etc.

I think I discussed this one with Tom at Huddersfield (sorry, my memory is dreadful these days), regarding taking the railway layout we had on the CBK display. It could now be the basis of an Airfix themed railway village - but this time we could realise my original dream of having two separate model railway transformer/controllers, one for each circuit, at the front of the table so children (and no doubt some of the "older" kiddies) could drive the trains themselves. We would of course need main power to the table, but I don't think that is such a problem at this show from the sound of it. We could still retain the shelves at the rear to display static items and the whole baseboard is only 6 x 4 feet, so the village could be extended either side if we have the space, in much the same way as CBK SIG did at SMW.

If this is not really what is required then that's fine, I'm easy either way, but I'd like to know sooner rather than later because if not required I will then lift the track and recycle the boards for use elsewhere - the wife is complaining about it standing and taking up room in the back passageway at the moment - there is nowhere else for it to go.

A couple of questions please:-
Do you guys stay over in Stockport on the Saturday night?
Is set up on the Friday or early Saturday morning?

Some photos from Telford for those who didn't get to see it.

I think a working airfix train set which can be operated by the public would fit in very well.

Some of us are local so commute but Ant, Gary and Colin stay over.
Set up last year was Sat morning with me dropping stuff off on Fri night. Colin wants to set up Fri evening this year, which is sensible with the amount of display space.

I need to check with the regs but I think all electrical equipment needs to PAT tested.

Power won't be a problem as we will be having table lights on Ants and Ian's demo stations.

Sounds good Al, I'm looking forward to it.

Tom, is the organiser block booking the Travelodge or do we need to make individual bookings?

Just looked up PAT testing - seems to be a grey area. We have Fluke meters and Meggar testers at work - I was meggaring mains cables and signing certificates for them only last week on the basis that I am an IRSE licensed Functional Tester - good enough for Network Rail. From what I can make out you don't need to be a qualified electrician, just someone deemed competent, but as I said seems to be a grey area. Let me know what you find out Tom.
Cheers
Al.

From the little I have seen with some of my commercial customers the only requirement seems to be the ability to fix a pre-printed sticky label on a plug and an undeciferable signature. A recent laptop I worked on had an a/c adapter with lots of sticky labels, no one had noticed that the insulation had been bitten through... :fear:
