Hi all,
The airshow season kicks off tomorrow with the Abingdon Air and Country show. I will be there, armed with camera's. http://www.abingdonairandcountry.co.uk/
But the big one is the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), held at RAF Fairford every year. http://www.airtattoo.com/
Once again, I will be going for all 6 days. If anyone wants to join me for the first day of arrivals on Wednesday 6th July, then let me know. It's basically a day sat in a field being bored with various odd bits of excitement when a plane lands. Highlights this year so far are a pair of Greek F-4's, USAF F22 and 4, yes 4 F35's. Whether they arrive on Wednesday or Thursday is anyone's guess.
Thursday to Monday I will be based in the FRIAT stand. http://www.airtattoo.com/airshow/visiting/airshow-tickets/friat
But, if you want to meet up on one of the show days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, then let me know.
Mark.

Hi all,
Well, today was day one of RIAT. It consisted of arrivals, and a few rehersals/validations. I'll be posting photo's on my Flickr page which can be found here -

The highlight of the show is the appearance of SIX F35's. Three 'A' and three 'B'. No doubt I will get some more photo's, but as promised on Facebook, here are a few to get you all going.
I'll post some of the other attractions in a bit.
Mark.

Thanks for posting Mark, definitely looks like the love child of the F117a and Blackbird!

It's far better looking than the other contender for the F35.

Looking at the amount of dirt the B is throwing up whilst in the hover, I can't see them being used too much in the field like the old GR3 and AV-8B generation.

Can't see them being welcome on a carrier either...

After the American F35 performed his little hover stunt, it took them about half an hour to clear the runway. The RAF F35 didn't make anything near that mess!

The language at RIAT leaves a lot to be desired. It's all F this, and F that!
All I heard all morning was F-22

Is the F-22 flying on the same day as the Typhoon? A few years ago as a guest of Key publishing at the Farnborough show the word was that the USAF didn't want to be upstaged by a previous gen fighter in public. In private the RAF Typhoons were shooting them out of the sky at Red flag exercises. Did not stay private for long as Key publishing published the story in AIr International a few months on.
