When you buy contact lenses, sometimes they'll give you a more comfortable fit if you take them out of their packaging and soak them in the usual solution in the usual reusable cases for a few days before putting them in. Best practice is also to replace those cases every month, and replace the solution each time you use them. You should pour a little solution on the palm of your hand and lightly rub the contact on it too, then rinse with solution and put back in the case after wearing them. You can rinse with eye drops, but never water, but real solution is best to keep them safe from nasty bacteria. Definitely start with only 4 - 5 hours on your first wearing. I do recommend doing a fitting at an optometrist, so they can show you how to put them in and out (even if they only show you with clear cheap ones they have on hand). Some optometrists won't do it without the full $300 training + fitting + contact package, but others will just show you how to put them on. Optometrists aren't a fan of coloured contacts but it's a good idea regardless because putting them in and, most importantly, taking them out can be a little tricky. Short nails (at least one) is a must until you become a pro at getting them out or putting them in. Read the packaging! Full Scleras are higher risk than normal contacts, and NEVER swim in them as it traps bad bacteria between the contact and the eye and that can do nasty things. You're best bet is to buy Australian or from a country that has equivalently stringent safety controls. We have a smaller range, but you don't want a poorly made or shipped product fusing to your eye. It's rare but it can happen. |
