Darin here is the information about my breakouts and Christine's. I haven't got Aisha's descriptions yet. Don't know if I should be posting this information here or somewhere else. Christine's - Keynote:The Torres Strait Montessori Nation: How Montessori became part of the culture of the Torres Strait Islands The Torres Strait Islanders have embraced Montessori as their preferred method of education and are starting with 0-3 programmes which are now located on many of the islands. There are also 3-6 programs on the main island within Tagai State College, an independent public school. A commitment to quality Montessori, alignment with cultural values and seeing a real difference in their children's educational and social outcomes are ensuring Montessori will remain in the community. Breakout 1:Montessori in government schools in Australia: Challenges and successes Breakout 2:Educating and informing parents about Montessori Principles and Practices: Key messages for increased support and understanding Parent education and information sessions are essential in Montessori schools to ensure an alignment with Montessori values and principles. We will explore some of the important principles and ways in which we can help parents to help teaching staff to get the best outcomes for children and the whole school. Breakout 3:The role of the teacher in Montessori classrooms - director, guide, facilitator, nurturer. A solid understanding of the planes of development, the Montessori materials and the social and emotional needs of children are essential for Montessori teachers. This session will look at why this knowledge is so important to achieve good quality Montessori. Mine - Breakout 1: Sensorial materials as a precursor for the Mathematics Curriculum. This breakout will look at several of the Montessori sensorial materials and the reasoning behind them. We will also look at how they encompass many mathematical concepts. We will discuss why they are so important to have in a classroom and how they help to form the Mathematical Mind of the child. Breakout 2: How the Montessori Mathematics Materials can be used to help a child understand many abstract concepts. In this breakout session several materials will be presented from all levels and we will discuss how a child can progress from these very concrete experiences to and understanding of abstract concepts. We will also discuss how materials with similar properties can be made and used in more traditional environments to help children understand this abstract subject. Carol, Please pass that information along to Yulvita she has access to the files and update the information directly so all the links in the public section can be updated without sending out update notices as it seems we have new updates constantly we don't want to give mixed message. We want to keep those none EXECUTIVE section clear of our discussions just in case others in the community have questions and we can provide answers there. I would ask everyone not to post corrections in the public sections please try to keep all your corrections here in the AIMS Executive and Conference 2015 and in the relevant forum topics listed here.
