Drop the tone, Eluth, this is a discussion. You take it personal, and it will become something far less benign. |
| And the beast was given a mouth, from which is spoke great lies and blasphemies, and forth from it's mouth death itself shall spill. --- And when they have finished their testimony, the beast that cometh forth from the abyss shall make war with them, and their God, and all shall fall to silence, and ash. | |

Maybe you just have to look at a few writing samples of some of the great writers that are calling Abydos home to know that more than a few of them are capable of taking an old idea and making it something really magical, unique, beautiful and enjoyable. I could write just for humans, elves, and dwarves if I wanted to, but why should I stop work on a vampire character that's really going places, that has a deep story, fears and flaws, hopes and dreams, personality quirks and all the things that make a character great? Who decided Elves and dwarves are more numerous than these other races, anyway? I don't see that anywhere in the lore. But even if they were, the fewer limitations you place on writers, the better. A lot of us learned this at our stay in Arda. The lore of Arda was so firmly set in some areas, that you had to work with the established cities, powers and abilities. My character could be any race he wanted to be, but he had to hail from one of three or four cities in the realm. Remove the restrictions, and you've just got people writing what they want to, and doing a really good job of it. The words and pages should be the first importance. The details of the world should come second. |

How long ago were those characters posted? A week? Two at the very most for some of the longer members. Quality roleplaying is really what I'm looking for, not quality writing. Quality writing isn't that difficult to find, but people who can actually stay in character, in an interesting character, are the ones that should allowed in. As for the consistent part, a consistent pantheon (Which varies from race to race and culture to culture) differs greatly from the numbers and types of races in the world. EDIT: The first part goes for Aloric's post too. |

No you listen to me! All of this is precisely the kind of OOC politicking that I've seen rip other boards to bits! Sometimes the knives have got to come out! This is all pathetic, and I'm extremely disappointed by the carry-on! Instead of harping on and on about OOC rubbish, go and write, write till your fingers bleed, and if you've still got energy to split hairs and pick at bones, then, maybe then you'll be justified. It's never the IC stuff that agitates or troubles a board. That's the sad thing about all of this! It's just a whole of swinging of dicks! A literal pissing contest, and it's sad. Go get writing! |

I don't really know what we're arguing anymore If you want your creativity to grow in a certain direction by forcing yourself to play a select few races, good on ya! If that works for you, I'm sure the results will be fantastic. But not everybody's creativity should be restricted in the same way.

Creativity isn't really restricted in a world with certain constraints. I have yet to read of a successful, or any fantasy IP, that has an unlimited racial category and other things of that nature. I'm not trying to stop fantasy races, I just want an embargo placed on celestials and demon-like races. |

Cut, print, end thread. I have no clue why some folks got their feathers ruffled, unless I was missing the point and it wasn't actually a debate thread. We've said our peace, moving on. -Kael |

Thanks to everyone for their input. There will be no racial demography, no standardizing of races, and it's ok if you want to play supernatural beings. Does anyone still have a question that didn't get answered about what you're allowed or not allowed to do? Please feel free to post your question. If there aren't any questions, this thread will be closed soon. |

I do have a question, but it may be seen as a little provocative, so feel free to ignore it and just close the thread. Why won't there be the standardization of races and suchwhat? I've seen other peoples responses to my point, but I'd like to see yours if you have time to detail it. |

Others have stated the point with admirable eloquence, and I find that I have little to add to the discussion. This topic is closed. |
