Advanced writers?

Greetings!
I'd like to know what one would consider an advanced writer. I myself have role played once or twice, but I'm probably an amateur at best(Also due to me being too lazy to practice). I'm more of a reader, I guess. But I would still like to make another attempt at role playing! I reckon this place isn't suitable for a greenhorn like me?

Psh, Zeph (awesome name by the way) I've been on RP forums for four years now, written two (nearly three) unpublished novels, and enough short stories to make your head spin.

I still don't consider myself an advanced writer.

It's all really about what you can do. If you can string two sentances together well, and not make it seem like a cat just walked across a keyboard, then you've already got a great start. I can already tell your spelling and grammar are good, and that is the number one big thing that would affect your application.

Don't put yourself down. Most people I've noticed that put in submissions saying "I don't think this is very good" usually don't get passed because, well, they don't believe in themselves, and they're submitting subpar work that even they have doubts about, rather than trying their best.

If you want some quick pointers, some tips, or another place to try your hand at RPing until you feel more confident, feel free to drop me a line!
You've just been 'chanted!

I agree with 'Flexor on this one. Good spelling and grammar is a major component of 'good' writing, which is really what we want here. It'd be nice for us to go all brilliant and start rping things equivalent to Hughes or Hawthorne or Eliot, buuuuut....generally that doesn't happen. ^^ Your first post here is promising though! It's in coherent English!

A word of wisdom to you: I got rejected from this site the first time I applied because, frankly, I submitted a lazy application. I knew already my spelling and grammar were good, but I didn't take the time to write something new/relevant/particularly impressive. Don't rush the application. Take your time to check and double check and triple check before submitting. :) If you do that much you should be fine.

Yep, I definitely agree with Beflexor and Renna.

I'm pretty sure I didn't get accepted here solely because of my RP sample. I believe a big part of why I got accepted is I expressed a lot of enthusiasm and goals for writing improvement in the OOC portion of my application.

Good luck with your app!

Grammar and spelling are important, but they're not the defining factor in our decisions about the applications. What we're really looking for is writers who put some depth and introspection into their writing. One of the biggest things that people we end up turning down do - regardless of grammar and spelling - is write play-by-play actions. If we can glean everything in your post by watching the scene on TV or standing next to your character and observing the events you're describing, then that's not the sort of writing we're looking for. We're looking for writers who put impressions, thoughts, metaphors, etc into their writing, and not just the actions of their characters.

Also, browse around the active role plays a little and see what we're like! If you like what you see, then this might be a good site for you ^_^

Best of luck!

I think the most remarkable skill some of Abydos writers exhibit -and which continues to inspire me to this end- is that they seem to write for the reader.
Some writing can be self-indulgent. A scene written for the pleasure of the writer alone, and has no joy or savour what so ever for a reader -and certainly doesn't resonate in their mind or soul, nor remain with them after.
I try to remember this, to write with the reader in mind. How will this feel to read?

Thank you for these replies, really. I think I shall gain some experience first, before attempting to join this place. Once I think that I am qualified to RP here, I will submit an application. Until then, await my return!
