Application Questions; Worried

I finished the application and posted it and...well it's been a day and I'm really, really really....10X^8 power worried.

I know it can take from minutes to days but I can't help but feel anxious. I know RL gets in the way of everything, I'm a college student and midterms are looming up.

A good thing came out of this worrying for over those hours I've been looking through the forum and I am impressed. *Gives all role play writers a huge applause*

I love the new and original characters. There are not an abundance of *angsty, revenge driven characters with mad fighting skillz...*

There are however characters with great backgrounds and very interesting explanations on how their powers work and where they get their power from.

It might be a bit slow but as long as the quality is terrific, the slowness will just make me desire it even more.

Also as I looked at other applications, I've noticed some 'flower wording?'. Sentences like, the moon was bright and from Roxinlyn's overly imaginative mind she thought she saw her sister's face smiling as it looked down at her. I've thought that kinda stuff just filled the paragraph with fun words and detail.

I also have a question, what is play-by-play? I don't know exactly what that is so I can't really know how to avoid it. (I really should've asked this before I submitted my application. >.>)

Anyways, I hope I'm not a bother.

I guess what's meant by "play by play" is the idea of writing a post as a means of "playing a game": wherein the character depth and authenticity of emotion and motive are far less of a concern -in the interest of belting out some easy settings and rough characterisation to begin the pwning process... Typical scenarios include heartless brutes, theives, assassins, and sorcerors -but which the reader has no real understanding of WHY this person is the person they are.
Abydos, I guess ultimately, is about writing for the reader. Not writing entirely for the self-indugled pleasure of it. Though I take immense indulgence in writing. So, rather than writing for play by play, I endeavour to enable my readers to understand, sometimes even before my character does themselves, why the character must think, feel, and react the way they do. This spirit of writing for the reader I believe is at the heart of all things Abydos. Not the flowery choice of words, nor any other craft-element of writing itself. Only, I've found every post a pleasure to read. So many play-by-play posts are only interesting to the gamers involved, and are a frightful bore to anyone else.

"Play-by-play" is writing the actions of a character without putting any thought into the perspective, thoughts, and intuition of the characters. The character does x action, followed by y action, followed by z action - and all of this can be gleaned by standing next to the character and watching what he/she does (like watching a TV show).

*needs to run to work* Sorry I can't write more! We're waiting for one more reviewer to look at your app, but it should be done soon. Thanks for your patience! ^_^

Ah hah! I understand. Thanks for the assistance Riele and Shaebodine.

Writing for the reader....isn't that one of the best reasons to write in the first place? Their joy is my joy? Or is it, if they cry my work is done? To make my characters so real they love/hate it?
