Hi, I'm new here and am having some trouble with my character profile. I have the base idea for the character, I have the person, I'm just feeling uneasy on details. For example, I'm not sure how old and world-weary I should make this character with my limited understanding of your world. Would it be wiser to start with a younger, less experienced character who learns as I do? Are there people who would be willing to RP with such a character? I'm not sure whether to start this character out as a hardened fighter or a fresh-faced youth. If there's someone who read my application (the last part of my characters history that I have set in stone) and is interested in RPing, let me know, because I can amend my characters history to suit any scheme we formulate. And another thing, while I'm typing. I've seen people implementing a sort of class level system with their characters. Is this manditory, or just a personal interest thing? |

Abydos is completely free-form. So there are no ideas or canons you need to worry about in your character design. You can create any character you desire within the genre of high-fantasy. As for whether to make your character world weary or young: why don't you write both? I often have as many as three threads with the "same character" and in actual fact they are significantly different in each, and certainly seem a different age... |

Whatever inspires you. You don't need to create your character in a way that fits the world here or what the other characters are doing (other than it should be a character that fits in a fantasy setting). Create the character how you're inspired to play him/her, and then just write. Someone else will probably say "Ooh, I have a great character to go with that!". You don't have to use a class system or anything of that sort. |

Different query then, what is the common tongue IC? Also my characters basic profile is up, only the history needs to be finished, so take a look and see if any ideas jump to mind. |

The common tongue is simply known as Common. Simple as that, right? |

AOC's Character Archive CHAOS: WHERE GREAT DREAMS BEGIN... Before a great vision can become reality, there may be difficulty. Before a person begins a great endeavor, they may encounter chaos. As a new plant breaks the ground with great difficulty, foreshadowing the huge tree...so must we sometimes push against difficulty in bringing forth our dreams. Out of chaos, brilliant stars are born. | |

Sorry, wasn't sure how D&D-esque the languages would be. Some people really go to town there. |
