Firstly, well done on the setting up of the forum. I trust it will serve both yourselves AND your customers well. My first question here and perhaps a silly one,but why is it imperative to lay foam under a tank? Perhaps helping relieve pressure of some discription must come into it! |

Hi Peter, Welcome to the forums. Generally the foam is put in place to counter any rough ridges etc that may put extra pressure on the glass. ie having pressure at different points hence stressing the glass enough to crack. By using the foam, it absorbs the protrusions and gives the glass a smooth flat surface. I use foam under my heavy rocks too...  So to answer your question.. YES I would definitely use foam under the tank! Cheers |

you mention putting foam under your rocks, i was wondering is there a point where you can add too much rock/weight to a tank? When i had my Black Hooded crabs i filled a 30x20x14 tank with Woomera rock leaving a 4 inch gap from all the edges at the top so the lil buggers couldnt reach the edges and get out... |

As long as the base of the tank is on a good baseboard and level you shouldn't have a problem Jaf However stands without a baseboard can be a problem at times. |

I was under the impression that foam might be able to level out the tank if it is slightly unbalanced? Is that baloney? |

True as long as it is only slightly out. It is still better to have the stand or cupboard as level as you can get |

When I bought my 6 x 2 x 2 tank in 1992 it came with a chipboard stand, although thick it started to make the tank look like it was falling over as Jaf says so i made a stand out of RSJ (rectangle box tube 3" x 1") an over kill however she sits straight. Between the tank and stand I have 1" thick marine ply and 1" thick styrofoam.
