I was just wondering what the risk of the dwalf Cockatoos or a BN eating the baby Pl*cos would be or would i need to take the dwalfs and BN out of the tank? I know it is better to have a spp. tank but i dont have a great deal of room for the others.

Less chance for any fry loss if they are kept on their own.

If you even get to see the eggs they could be removed then, still a possible risk.

Thanks for that. im not shore where they will lay there eggs becuase i have put many pices of PVC tubing thoughout the tanks and im unable to see in to most of them (dum on my part i think :unsure2: ). There is also a pipe running 3/5 of the way through the tank under the sand which they may use. I will try to move the other fish out when i can but its not going to be that easy due to its set up (i will post some pics soon).

So far to try to spawn the Clown Pl*cos

The normal water conditions
pH: 6.7
Temp.: 26ºC

Day 1 of Attempt 1
Water conditions
pH:6.7
Temp.:26ºC

Added water (tap water)
pH:6.6
Temp.:14ºC

Comments:
Alot of sodium biphosphate had to be added to the water (tap water) to drop the pH, it is sitting at about 9.2. It also was being airated in a bucket for several days. I put Blackwater extract into the aquarium to get better conditions and i need to get a KH test kit, but i will do that. I also droped the temp. of the heater down to 22ºC.

Day 4 of Attempt 1
Water conditions
pH:6.6
Temp.:22ºC

Added water (Boiled water this time, read that it makes the water softer by getting all the bicarbonates out of the water - im not to shore of that though but ill give it a go)
pH:6.8
Temp.:≈14 -15ºC

Comments:
Water being at lower temp. for 4 days and then the heater put back up to 26ºC.

Day 5 of Attempt 1

Comments:
The Behavior of the fish has changed they seem to be more active and are chasing eachother around. i may not know if they have spawned for 3 to 4 weeks from now, thats if they do.

Ill keep everyone watching posted.

There is a web sight call "plecofanatics", check it out, I'm sure you will find it interesting.

Hey everyone, Just posting an update. a few days after my last post there was an increass in digging activity. Some of the areas that where dug out still are but im not shore if anthing has happened.

Another thing that has come to light is that i have two variations of P. maccus. In the pictures you can clearlly note that there are two patterns. This may mean that i have a few from fish from the Apure region of the Orinoco drainage and some from that main Orinoco river.

And hears a pic of the tank for mars 40.

Yep, it grows heaps but it reduces the amount of algae growing by sucking up the nutrients.

Probably solved ages ago, but given the behaviour of my Dwarf Cockatoo, if he saw small, live food, and could pick it off with a dart forwards and a gulp, he'd do it... he loves investigating live food before he eats, but he sure knows it's live food... fry would fall right in that basket, I bet...

Just curious to see if we've got a local breeder for these cute little guys... see plenty of breeders for L-numbers in Sydney & Brisbane but with the juvies being rather expensive, then the shipping & not to mention... not having any real idea on who you are buying them from...

Would be good to see some local breeders established here in SA :yes :yes
