Thanks. I will do some propper relaxing on monday when I have a whole day off no work no uni . Thats about the first I have had in 2 or 3 months. I Think I will be bored in about 5 minutes. I have to do some creative things I think. A little note on the fish. I unfortunately found one fry dead tonight so I only have 4 again. These things happen with tiny fish but it is still a little dissapointing. And A question. There are patches of algae growing on the fry saver and they are staying on those patches and not eating the food I put in. I guess its fine but just wasn't sure if I should clean it off so they eat what I give them. Dylan |

My algae feeders have been generally ignoring a lot of what I offer, providing there is algae there for them - they will go for the other stuff when the algae is low... what they did mostly go for was a nutra-fin spirulina tablet that had been in for about two hours, and gone soft... all the albinos, cory's and bn's all had dark green bellies full of spirulina, and the Oto had his fill too... even the loach had a dig at it... lol The guppies peck at it, too... all good... I like a food everyone enjoys... As long as they're eating *something* I wouldn't worry too much, Dylan... |

Well what a good morning suprise. I saw a little egg with a tail in the 2' tank (the brown BN tank). I have spent the last couple of hours looking for more but I couldn't find any. I decided I must have still been asleep and was dreaming the observation. So I just got the torch and covered it in red tissue paper and took a look in the boys cave. There is one tiny wiggler in there. I have only had these girls for a week or so and already they are spawning. I will call this spawn a write-off for now since I don't know where the other eggs went. It is a good sign anyway.

Just a little update. I have made the 'Dylan's Fry Saver Mk2' I found a very hand clear plastic container that fits like it was made for the space. I rigged it up in the same way as before. It is a 5 liter container so it is a fair bit bigger but the main thing is I can look from the front and see the fry.![]() And here is a photo of the new love birds in the brown BN tank. ![]() Dylan |

Hi. I just got home from work to yet more news in the Brown BN tank. My wife apparently was looking with a torch into the boys cave to see how the one fry was getting on and she instead found a new batch of eggs. The dad doesn't seem to worried about the intrusion. and I don't think he kicked any eggs out. I will keep you all posted as to what happens with this batch. BTW no news on exam results yet. |

Last night as I was watching the boy came out and jumped on top of a girl (I have not seen that before) anyway while he was out I quickly grabbed the torch and looked in. There is a nice clump of eggs on the ceiling. At a guess there would be 30+ eggs and they are nice and big. I can't get pictures without disterbing him so sorry.

Well it has been a couple of weeks. I have had a mixture of good and bad news on the fish front. As some of you may know I had a small Ich problem but that seems to have been resolved (touch wood). I now have a problem with the Brown BN fry. Some of them are getting super bloated and dying. The good news if after seeing the albino boy in his cave for a week there are now some new albino fry loose in the main tank. I don't know how many (I counted 6 but who would know where they are hiding). I still have one fry left from the first spawn and he is doing well by himself in the fry saver. He is probably 1.5cm now. I also have one perfect Brown fry which I think may be from the first spawn. So here is a couple of pictures of a bloated fry. I was thinking of trying to put a bloated fry ingo a bucket of tank water with epsom salt so see if I can get to to pass something and deflate. I have asked on other forums and a couple of people are having similar problems with no positive results thus far.![]() ![]() Oh and out of 6 topics I did at uni I got 4 credits a pass and the last topic is a full year topic so I don't get a propper result until the end. I am sort of happy but I would have liked a distinction in a couple of those topics. At least if I decide to do Honours next year I have the grades to do it. Dylan |

Long shot, but I'd try feeding them some defrosted, shelled, frozen peas... if it's a digestion problem, that could well help... |

I agree with Stuart more greens in the diet would help, peas zuchini etc Also are the young with the father for the first 2 - 3 weeks, as they need to digest his waste in that time for the stomachs to develope properly so they can digest their foods better. They also will eat their own waste in that time as they only partialy digest the foods first time round. |
