Thanks guys. I have been feeding them just peas and zucchini for the last few days but the adults were getting a bit of shrimp pellet in their diet (maybe twice a week) up till early in the week. The diet for this tank is generally, in order of frequency, 1-Zucchini, 2-Algae wafers, 3-Peas, 4-Shrimp pellets, 5-Other veggies and daily flakes for the neons. I don't think the bloat is caused by diet (my gut feeling (sorry bad pun)) but the diet (ie shrimp pellets) may well aggravate it. These little ones were in with dad for 2 weeks at a guess long enough to be quite good swimmers with no yolk by the time they came out.

Thanks Mars :thumb

Update: The albinos are not being particularly active on the breeding front at the moment but That's ok. I will let them rest up and fatten up before doing any more large water changes. I don't know if I mentioned that I have another brown BN spawn. They are starting to get out and about in a small tank conected to the 2' by way of a small pump and a syphon tube. They are in there with dad and his cave and a nice piece of planted drift wood. I will keep dad in there for a few more days since he is still mostly in the cave but comming out to eat. It is interesting to watch the other male without the alpha male in the tank I just hope there is not a power struggle when they are re-united.

So far these fry don't look bloated so I will see how they go. I am only feeding the tank veg (just peas for the fry this week) and a tiny bit of flake for the neons. I finally put the twin fluoro back on the tank yesterday after a few weeks with only a desk lamp and they seem much more active. I would have thought they would be more active in the gloom of the lamp but it actually seems the opposite.

I will post up picture this week some time.

Well I promised a picture so here it goes.

I don't know why I am on here doing this now instead of sleeping  but I am sure you guys don't mind that I am not sleeping. My Wife just counted twenty-something and I said I am sure there are more than that so she looked in the cave only to find at least the same again so say 40 or more tiny ones :P . I hope I have a better success rate this time.

:thanks The tank looks healthy, great picture, nice and clear.
Heres hoping for 40 plus!!, not forgetting that there is a reason for so many fry, not all do survive, but Im sure you know that.

Thanks guys. I know not all of them will survive but I have 1 from the first two spawns to that was a pretty poor rate. I have a bit more control over diet and them not being eaten in the small tank. They are pretty cool to watch just wiggling around all over the tank. They like the wood and plants which is fair enough.

Today I fed the little ones pumpkin for the first time (the Adults love it). after a while my wife said "hey there are 13 plecos on this pumpkin" I didn't count them but they were all over it busily munching away.

So far I am still happy with the progress but I don't want to get too confident yet.

The new record is 21 plecos on the pumpkin. :wink I think I have found a new way to count the BN's I counted about 40 before so I think I guessed about right. I wish I had a video camera to show you these little wigglers.

The number just keeps growing :lol We counted 31 on the pumpkin and 59 in total. They are pretty much everywhere in the little tank. I just added half a broadbean and there is 6 on that. I feel a bit silly being a grown man giggling over tiny fish :blush but...

aaahhh.... but when it's the result of a caring effort it's good to be a proud "stepdad"

I know i've done the same thing over my guppies... can't imagine yet what it would be like to have babies hatch from eggs and watch them grow up.

Very very rewarding I imagine.. :yes :yes :victory :victory

I think possibly the best part, which I have been lucky enough to witness more than once, is to see their tails split from the yolk and start wiggling :thumb . Having so many babies going nuts over the food comes a close second though.
