does anyone know what this white spot/blemish is, and how to treat it?

Bit hard to tell from the photo - is it white and fluffy 'ish'??? If so it could be a fungus from a scratch or nick on it's belly - I'd be inclined to dose melafix & pimafix together, and look to see if that knocked it down or not, before reaching for anything heavier... whilst they're not 100% predictable, because even the manufacturer doesn't know exactly what is and isn't cured by them, between the pair they do help with a lot of minor things, without knocking out the filtration or worrying your fish...

What are your water stats like?? If you have high nitrates, do a 30% water change before you treat with Melafix/Pimafix - it'll lessen the likelihood of bacterial infection from the water, and you can do a full 7 day course of them without diluting with a water change during it...

Stuart is on the money again :)

Its more likely caused by water conditions, at first i would have said a burn from the heater, but James was saying there is more than one with the symptoms ???

Use the melafix and pimafix together and should be fine but test the water first, before using.
