I am about to take my glass up to the glazier to get them to rebuild my new tank and I was contemplating getting the tank drilled (if it wasn't too expensive) so I can put in a sump easier. I just wanted to know how big the holes need to be for the bulkheads? I guess just regular 25mm bulkheads since it is only a 200lt tank. Thanks Dylan |

A 25mm bulk head needs a 45mm hole. |

Thanks for the fast reply. I just thought also how far from the top would I get it drilled? I don't know if I would go for a weir or alternative plumbing. |

Personally I think a weir system works best and center of the hole should 150mm from the bottom of the tank and 100mm in from the edge! If you want to go the other way then the center of the hole should be where you want the water level, usually about 50mm down and 100mm in from the edge. If you go with the weir system we can get one made up for you that you just silicon into the tank (I used to build them when I was working at another store who's name I can't mention). If you want to give it a crack yourself then I’ll draw up a plan for you.

Thanks. I will get back to you on which way I want to go. It may still be too expensive to be worth it. |

Should be no more than about $20 to get the hole drilled. |

They didn't have a drill to do it so I didn't worry about it. It would have been more mucking around or cost for them to get a drill. I will probably go a canister anyway otherwise I hope someone can drill it with the tank built later. |
