hello readers hope u can help me, but before i start jsut would like to say how good aggies aquariums are and the help u receive is great
keep it up.now i have a 6ft tank and want it to be a comunity tank so i have slowly started decorating the tank. with orniments, ive had a 2ft for a while now and decided to build my own 6footer and did sucessfully so far teh onyl issue that i have atm is my silver sharks for some reasin they jsut wont eat. is it wrong diet im giving them? or? ive bought 2 silver sharks 3days ago so maybe thats the case getting used ot the tank etc. i feed all my fish tropical flakes, colour enhancers, and brine shrimp i tend to rotate the diet for em dailiy but for some reason the sharks dont have any of it. i have only seen them eat some flakes on 1 occasion when the filter stirred then to the bottom of the tank where their level was, im sure they can sence the food and come to the surface like other fish do. these are some of the species that i have 2x silver sharks 1x rainbow shark 1x electric yellow 5x tiger barbs 4x odessa barbs 4x zebra danios 4x algae eaters 2x tetras the main issu ei have is when dad buys me fish and he only buys the looks and how cheap they are doesnt know if they will kill my more expencive fish lol so i think its time to tell him the bad news and not to be so nice in suprising me with aggresive fish lol do you suggest i should take out the tiger barbs and ordessa barbs if i wanna keep some gouramis or a peacefull tank. i will post some pics of my setup too soon. and are the if you could answer some questions that would be great thanks... |

wen i had my silver shark he didnt come to the surface.. ever. they will eat algae waffers, the sinkable ones. they munch em up! and if u listen carefully, u can hear them making a "snaping noise"... duno wat does it, but im guessing their jaw protrudes reli reli quickly and makes a snap on the waffer. there isnt much info on silver sharks at all... all i know is that mine took sinkable tablets all the time!
if u feed em, lets say, sum boiled brocoli and that sinks to the bottom, they will eat that aswell.. but main thing is that ur algae eaters will eat the sinkable discs aswell! so nufin will b left over ..oh concering the tiger barbs.. if u have 5 in there i rekon they will b fine! wen they are in a group they tend to leave ALL other fish alone because they play within there own group. they, like most other fish, have a ranking system when living in small groups.. so they tend not to b picking at any other fish that are less 'aggressive'... good work buying two sharks tho! they prefer being with another one (they are another 'group' fish)..not sure bout putting gouramis in tho.. dont know to much bout em except they r another labyrinth fish.. gona hav to get sum1 else to answer that 1 4 u

I'd up the barbs to six of each, or more, to be safe... |

The Electric yellow (need High PH) and the rainbow shark will eventually become an issue as they grow, both can be very territorial so need to watch for that. Tiger barbs do better in schools that way they chase each other, otherwise they can terrorize the other tank mates. Not everyone has luck with rainbow or redtail sharks in community setups. Silver sharks are placid and maybe 1 in 10 will eat small fish, the only problem i find with them is once they reach 6-8" (grow to 13") they tend to spook very easily, making changing water and feeding, a task in its self. Which means they need very large tanks for swimming room otherwise they will just knock themselves out on the tank lids or the end of the tank.
