Most odd... after the power cut last Sunday, I'd been monitoring ammonia and nitrites daily, just in case the bacterial colony suffered from three hours of no filtration, but all had been well... Saturday evening I did a 10% water change above and beyond the normal midweek 20%, and rinsed half the filter media in tank water to pull some built up gunge down... all was well at lights out, and Alby (the Albino BN) was happily cleaning the front glass... come Sunday morning Alby is dead on the substrate, curled up sideways on his back... no other fish dead, none behaving oddly, the pepp. is fine... immediately checked ph, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, all fine, temp fine... just a dead contorted BN with rigor...

It's annoying, as he was the best of the batch I'd had, and I'd sold a couple on (these were the $3.95 albino cory's... lol) - he'd gone from a skinny 3.5cm baby to about 7cm all up, and was a lovely fish with personality - and he got along with the pepp most of the time, too, whereas the one in the 60L is a bossy boots...

Any ideas or clues, folks?? Is there anything particular that causes a fish to curl violently - it was a very unusual shape he was contorted in...

Sorry to hear about your albino bn Stuart :( :( Tis always sad when we lose one, especially a favourite.

I still don't have a clue as to why I lost one of my Orange spot bn's a week after bringing them home. The other one is doing great & growing quite quickly.

I know what it's like to want to know "what" happened exactly.. so that you can try to make sure it doesn't happen to any of the others... but I don't have any ideas for you.. sorry :dntknw :dntknw

Cheapest replacement (before the kids notice scary sucker is missing) I've found so far is $30, and it's a lot smaller - mind you I haven't been to Aggies yet... Similar size was $70 - why can't there be some more $3.95 albino cories when ya need 'em... lol

Sorry about your loss Stuart :(

I dont know about inside tanks, but in ponds that fish suddenly die and curled or sudden bent spine syndrom (not birth defect), is usually associated with lightning strike or electric shock.

Sorry cant help onthat one at the moment :dntknw

No albino's in stock at the moment Stuart.. No specials on them at the moment and only 3cm available over priced as usuall at the moment :(

He's the only one I lost in there... ah well, one of those things... got any commons at the moment, Mark??

I saw what I think are Kerri Danios, mis-shipped as Leopard or Zebra's - Have you seen any come through?? Are they worth any more than common Danios? They look quite striking, blue metallic body with an almost purpley streak in the tail... If all else fails I'll distract from the lack of a large albino BN with a couple of shiny fish... lol

Still no kerri's on any of the lists that i have seen.

Wouldnt surprise me that some come through though from some importers as they sometimes have a mixed bag special. Which usually means zebra, leopards mixed together, so i guess their could be other varieties mixed in as well.

I havnt ordered that way for a long time as the prices are usually higher than normal zebra danios, but they make up most of the numbers. :)

Yeah, that'd make sense for this particular shop though... and would explain the 'came through' as two different kinds of danio... lol

They're in a tank being treated for white spot (black moors with 5c sized soft white areas on 'em, not fluffy like fungus, more like they're white UNDER the slime coat, oddest freaking white spot I've seen) so I'm hoping some will survive their haphazard 'treatment' - I offered to take 5 and quarantine 'em myself (gotta have better chances in a tank on their own with a UV filter and a broad spectrum, compared to an overstocked tank of danios and goldies with the wrong meds) but their store policy is to not sell from any tanks being treated... AAAAAAgggggggh...

Second lot of Kerri's I've seen - well, exotic danios of some kind, anyway - the first lot was further down south, and they didn't want to sell any 'cos they're 1. going into a display tank and 2. think someone has some on hold (no notes on the tank - but then I was suited up so maybe they thought I was some kinda undercover inspector looking for odd fish... lol) - given I was interrogated as to what I wanted, and what kind of tanks I keep... *lovely* store... :) They had $6.50 on 'em - this place has $3... $3 works... :)
