Hello there, I want to transfer my corydoras into my densely planted tank, but as maintenance on the gravel is minimal (I hover my gravel vac over only where I can reach), is this a good idea? anybody else do this? My cories have very good barbels, and I don't want to put them somewhere where they may damage them. Cheers, Helena |

I can't really see any problems with adding them to the tank even if it is heavily planted. Do you have any pic's of the planted tank? |

i have an albino cory in one of my heavily planted tanks and no problems, it's more a sharp substrate that may cause problems with their barbals. what substrate are u using ? |

Hi sthn75 - yep I have new pics but haven't loaded them onto the comp yet. I just rearranged the plants inthe tank and got rid of a bag worth of scarlet ludwigia - just didn't have room to replant all of it. The tank is predominantly filled with scarlet ludwigia and crypts, and I also have a tropical sword (small one), corkscrew, and grass-like plant (forgot what the store guy told me it was and still looking it up). I also have a piece of drift wood with an anubias nana on it that I want to transfer into the tank soon when I make more room. Hi fish_r - The gravel is not round, but the edges are rounded and not sharp so I'm not too worried. They range in size but are not bigger than 1cm and black in colour. I have a bristle nose catfish in there who seems happy. All in all, I think the cories will be happier in the planted tank as the other tank has hardly any gravel in it (I only added some for the cories to shuffle through when I bought them, but they loved hiding under the drift wood and digging into the gaps in the anubias) as I use it as a breeder tank for guppies but i want to get rid of it now. So, do you do ANY maintenance on the gravel at all? |

i just usually skim across the top with a gravel vac to do any clean up, but the tank with most of my cories in gets a water change every 3 days so i'm pretty on top of any poop. |

Sounds like your on track GuppyShrink, my cory's are happy in a planted tank too. Lots of drift wood and smooth gravel. ( there in my six foot too!) I vac all my tanks, some surface others a good digging in the gravel. It all depends on what fish you keep in your tank and if you have underground heating. my six foot with the corys. http://z15.invisionfree.com/Aggies_Aqua_Fo...p?showtopic=684

Hi fish_r - I vac and clean my tank every week or sometimes fortnight now when I have time as my tank's bioload isn't that great since I gave away all my danios. Plus, I read that the plants need the nutirents and tanks that are heavily planted need less water changes? Hi mars - wow your tank is soooooooo big and colourful! That's a really nice set up and the background is really nice! I was looking through your posts and was wondering how many tanks you had because your new setup looked like it was already in between two other setups! Wowsers! My tanks are in my room as I still live at home and my mum refuses to let me buy a bigger tank and there's no space in my room. So, tanks are not that big. Since they're not that big, they're really crammed with plants. I don't use much ferts (except iron supplement) and I don't have undergravel heating either, so I stick to low maintenance types. Thanks for the info! Really appreciate it. Will start moving my fish over tomorrow! |

i have a heavy bio load in all my planted tanks and discus too so the 3 -4 daily water changes are mandatory for me. + i over feed too so my discus are plump and so they dont get stunted. + i add plenty of fertilizers too so bigger water changes are needed so u dont get a build up of excess nutrients. |
