~ Introduction ~ This is a basic introduction to BBCode, the codes used to change font color, size and style. There are buttons for most of these things, but this is a basic introduction.
There are several things you can change with BBCode. There's color changes, sizechanges, and format changes.
Sometimes BBCode can get tricky. If you have too many things going on, you might forget to "close" or "end" something and it doesn't turn out the way you want it to, to avoid this I recommend keeping all of your coding alterations in order. For example, if you were to start with color, followed by size, and then a bold, you would close first with the bold, then the size, and lastly the color. That way, it is a bit easier to keep up with.
When inputting these codes, it doesn't matter if you use capital letters or not, the code is still accepted. What WILL matter is if you ever forget a bracket, or if you forget to "end" your code properly.

~ Format Changes ~
We'll start with Format changes. There are usually buttons for these when posting in the forums (and they are also outlined HERE), so you don't have to memorize them. However, when working with more complicated formats it can be very helpful to know these basic codes. There are also a few additional codes listed here not found on the site's BBCode list.

~ Color Changes ~
Color changes are a simple and fun way to enhance your post. Many users like to assign their characters specific colors, and use colors throughout their posts to help denote different meanings (or just to look nice).
Spoiler: click to toggle
The first thing we'll look at is color changes with BBCode. This is one of the most basic things you can do and it is achieved by using the following code:
Code:
[color= Name of Color Here] Text Here [/color]
For example, if I wanted dark red I would type:
Code:
[color=darkred] Text Here [/color]
And it would look like this: Text Here
However, you can't type just any color in and expect BBCode it to work. There are plenty of colors to choose from, but you'll want to make sure that the color name you type in has a corresponding Hex Code associated with it (Hex codes are the 3 or 6-character codes that are often used in HTML and CSS to tell the browser what colors to display).
when putting in your color don't forget to omit any spaces in the color name. Also note that capital letters don't make a difference.
Colors (NOTE: You may need to highlight some of the color names to make them visible depending on your background color)
Alice Blue Antique White Aqua Aquamarine Azure Beige Bisque Black Blanched Almond Blue Blue Violet Brown Burly Wood Cadet Blue Chartreuse Chocolate Coral Cornflower Blue Cornsilk Crimson Cyan Dark Blue Dark Cyan Dark Goldenrod Dark Gray Dark Green Dark Khaki Dark Magenta Dark Olive Green Dark Orange Dark Orchid Dark Red Dark Salmon Dark Sea Green Dark Slate Blue Dark Slate Gray Dark Turquoise Dark Violet Deep Pink Deep Sky Blue Dim Gray Dodger Blue Fire Brick Floral White Forest Green Fuchsia Gainsboro Ghost White Gold Goldenrod Green Green Yellow Grey Honey Dew Hot Pink Indian Red Indigo Ivory Lavender Lavender Blush Lawngreen Lemon Chiffon Light Blue Light Coral Light Cyan Light Goldenrod Yellow Light Green Light Pink Light Salmon Light Sea Green Light Sky Blue Light Slate Gray Light Steel Blue Light Yellow Lime Lime Green Linen Magenta Maroon Medium Aquamarine Medium Blue Medium Orchid Medium Purple Medium Sea Green Medium Slate Blue Medium Spring Green Medium Turquoise Medium Violet Red Midnight Blue Mint Cream Misty Rose Moccasin Navajo White Navy Old Lace Olive Olive Drab Orange Red Orchid Pale Goldenrod Pale Green Pale Turquoise Pale Violet Red Papaya Whip Peach Puff Peru Pink Plum Powder Blue Purple Red Rosy Brown Royal Blue Saddle Brown Salmon Sandy Brown Sea Green Seashell Sienna Silver Sky Blue Slate Blue Slate Gray Snow Spring Green Steel Tan Teal Thistle Tomato Turquoise Violet Wheat White White Smoke Yellow
If you'd like to use a color not found on this list, then you'll need to obtain the hex code for it. There are several free online generators out there, such as this one HERE. If you plan to use a hex code instead of a color name, simply replace the color name with the desired hex code (including the # sign).
You can also change the color of many of the format changes listed above. For example you can have green font with a navy underline, or any other combination of colors you can think of. You can play around with the coding to come up with all kinds of fun variations!
This is the code for changing underline color:
Code:
[color=Underline Color][u][color=Font Color] Text Here [/color][/u][/color]
The first Color Code is for the Underline Color, and the second is for the Text Color.
You can do the same thing with Strikethrough.
Like this, or this, or even this.
This is the code for changing strikethrough color:
Code:
[color=Strike Color][s][color=Font Color] Text Here [/color][/s][/color]

~ Embedding Images and More ~
Want to put images, videos, or links in your post? Well this is how!
Spoiler: click to toggle
Images
To put an image in your post:
Code:
[img] URL Of Image Here [/img]
*You can also change the size of the image you are posting by adding in a bit more coding: [img=LENGTH, HEIGHT]IMAGE URL[/img]
Example:
If you do not have a URL for your image there are several image hosting sites which will allow you to create one for free by simply uploading the image to their servers. Some popular ones are photobucket, imgur, and tinypic.
Video
To insert a YouTube video:
Code:
[flash=250,210] URL Of YouTube Video Here [/flash]
*You can change the dimensions of the embedded video by altering the numbers at the beginning of the code after the "=" sign. The order is width, Height. (You'll want to leave at least 30 for the second value to ensure you can easily access the play/pause button.)
The most basic use for when you are submitting templates, although it's uses can extend beyond that. The site's BBCode list has it described as a way to talk in the 3rd person. For any users with special rankings (Mod, Admin, etc...) the name will appear modified to match their rank.

~ Boxes & Tables ~
There are several ways to "frame" your text. Are you trying to quote someone? Are you trying to keep someone from accidentally reading sensitive information? There's a proper code for all of this, you just have to pick out the right one!
Spoiler: click to toggle
Quoting
This is to quote someone:
Code:
[quote= Name Here ] Text Here [/quote]
*It is not neccessary to put the name of the person you are quoting, if you leave it blank it will just say "Quote:". If you choose not to list a name, also make sure you remove the "=" sign.
Example:
Her_Excellency
This is a quote.
Coding
This is to type out coding:
Code:
[code] Code goes here [/ code]
*NOTE: There is no space between the forward slash and the word "code" ** You can also use [nocode] Your Text here [/nocode] to type out code without placing it in a box.
Spoilers
This is to create a spoiler tab:
Code:
[spoiler] Text Here [/spoiler]
*You can add titles to your spoiler by putting an = sign and then your desired title name.
Example:
Game of Thrones Spoilers
A lot of people die in this show.
Tables
You begin by typing out "table= # of columns" in the same bracket format as all of the coding seen above. then you proceed to type and it will automatically put the text in the first column first row of the table. You then add a "c" in brackets to move to the next column. Once you've reached the last column of the table typing a "c" in brackets will move you down to the next row.
For Example, if I wanted to copy the information from this image into a chart the coding would be as follows:
Code:
[table=3] A [c] B [c] C [c] 5 [c] 20 [c] 60 [c] X [c] Y [c] Z [/table]
This is how it would look:
A
B
C
5
20
60
X
Y
Z

~ Lists & Lines ~
Sometimes you need a bit of structure to your post, that's where tables and lines come in.
Spoiler: click to toggle
Lists
To make a list by adding bullet posts:
Code:
[list] [*] Item 1 [*] Item 2 [*] Item 3 [/list]
*Every " * " will add a new bullet point.
Example:
Item 1
Item 2
Item 3
You can also make a numbered list:
Code:
[list=1] [*] Item 1 [*] Item 2 [*] Item 3 [/list]
Example:
Item 1
Item 2
Item 3
Or a lettered list:
Code:
[list=a] [*] Item 1 [*] Item 2 [*] Item 3 [/list]
Example:
Item 1
Item 2
Item 3
Lines
Lines are pretty simple. Just place an [ hr ] (with no spaces) wherever you'd like one to appear.
Example:
Code:
You can make lines for different subjects:[hr] My first Topic [hr] My Second Topic[hr]
How it Looks:
You can make lines for different subjects: My first Topic My Second Topic
~ List of Symbols ~ For when you need to add a bit of flair or type out one of them there fancy foreign words, just copy and paste the desired symbol from this list! (NOTE: There are other ways of actually getting your keyboard to type up these puppies, the list is just for convenience.)
