Chapter One: Chosen Steel cut through the the thin air of Planet Earth. The atmosphere was disgusting, due to the altitude. Pollen, and disease flooded the mountains. The blade moved swiftly, and gracefully through the blank space, stirring every little particle in the space. One could only see the grey blur of the steel moving through its invisible target. Its moving made a swift whirling sound, that resonated throughout the mountains. Two taped arms held the sword in place, just before the next flurry. The wielder's arms seemed to move with such ease and grace. If one were able to keep up with the pace of the blade, they would almost hypnotize them. Hiei's teeth grit as he thrust the blade through the air, and left flashes of light from his increased speed. He came to a halt, and landed on one knee. His force had propelled him slightly in the air, before he ceased. He looked out towards the horizon, and began feeling a sense of disgust. He was a demon, and wasn't really affected by human disease. Though he was unaffected, the air made him feel bad. It was almost like a feeling of drowsiness, and this angered the demon swordsman. He rubbed a hand through his hair before sheathing his blade. Though normally dressed in a full black robe, Hiei decided to keep his undershirt, and pants on. The robe was a bit too much for the moment. It seemed to slow down his strikes by a fraction of the incredible speed, that he had already displayed. Hiei sat still, and continued to look at the greenery. He began to think about the sadness in his life, and how he had gotten to this point. He hated humans, he hated society, and yet he had put his life on the line time after time to save them. He never understood the love humans seemed to confuse with infatuation. Hiei never loved much of anything. He didn't really have a family, as he was constantly on the run. Hiei started as a thief, and demon of the lowest kind. If one were to hear about his battles, they would believe him to be a hero! Hiei closed his eyes, and adjusted his headband. He decided that today, would be the day he tamed the dragon. Hiei had done so once before, and watched his battle prowess only increase, but now he wanted to do it once, and for all. The demon sighed, as he knew this was going to take a lot out of him. It used to permanently cripple him, until he was healed by a magical force field. The irony of his entrapment, was that it was designed to keep him from fighting. Instead, it only made him stronger. Hiei stood up, and removed his shirt. He tossed the cloth aside, knowing that the Darkness Flame would consume it, in its wake. He closed his eyes, and began to draw Spirit Energy from his body. His Jagan eye slowly opened, and started to perceive the world around it. He smiled, as he felt the rush of Spirit Energy come over him. The eye's hot nature removed his headband instantly. The part that had concealed the extra appendage, burned, splitting the headband in half. He could feel it now. The Darkness Flame had risen from Hell, and come to where he was. The mountains began to shake, and so did the few houses in isolation. Hiei waited patiently for the Darkness Flame to be accessible to his right arm. Within seconds, a dark flame like aura appeared in his hand. It was not only fiery, but also cloud like in nature. It was as if the Darkness flame had become a mist of some sort. It lurked in the palm of his hand, and now his Jagan Eye was completely activated. The light would be blinding to anyone who stood in its midst, and the pupil was no longer visible. The blue light lit up the sky, which was darkened by the Darkness Flame. Hiei held the flame in his hand, as his body began to twitch. The Darkness Flame, to many, was uncontrollable. Hiei was going to change that fact. A blue orb of energy began to radiate from his small frame, and flash throughout the dark sky. Hiei parted his lips, and grit his teeth yet again. His right arm shook rapidly, as he felt the Dragon come to him. If I want to master this, I've got to learn to consume him! I have no other choice now! If I don't consume him, then I lose my right arm for awhile, and I'm not willing to take that risk! There's no force field to heal me this time! Black sparks of electricity circulated his small frame. The electricity began to go haywire, and made contact with mountain rocks. The rocks crumbled, as if they had no solidity to begin with. The crumbling rock couldn't break his concentration. The cloudy mist, now turned into a dark blue orb in his palm. A black aura surrounded his body, and flowed with his Spirit Energy. Hiei breathed heavily, as holding the Darkness Flame this long, would take its toll. He began to grunt, and held his right arm towards the ground. His left arm held the arm down, as it began to twitch back upward. The Demon grit his teeth even harder, and let out a cry. The cry was filled with pain, and desperation. He couldn't give up now. The flame had grown on him so strong, that if he gave up it would consume him. Hiei screamed once more, and felt now that he was gaining control of the deadly technique. His brow began to sweat, and his arms shook violently. His arms fell to their sides, and Hiei stopped his scream. He was in control now. The demon jumped into the air, and threw his right arm out, to full extension. The Earth shook, and the houses around him shattered. The Darkness Flame had now taken the shape of a dragon, and was visible. The Dragon was fearsome, and began to spiral around Hiei. Once it had spiraled around the demon, it branched out, and began to make a spiral towards the sky. Hiei screamed, trying to hold the technique as long as he could. His constant grunting further alerted those, whose homes he had destroyed just a moment ago. The sky was even darker now, and the Dragon began to shoot electricity all around the mountains. There were no screams of terror, as the people were far too simple, and amazed to say anything. Hiei screamed once more, as if the dragon began to consume him, instead of the opposite. His head tilted back towards the sky, as if he were calling for help of some sort. His body drifted off into a subconscious state. He saw memories of his sister, and the pain that went along with, not telling her that they were related. He had never really loved anyone, or anything. How could he love? He was born with the purpose of evil, and taught evil intentions. His intentions, being much worse than other demons. He didn't mind death, and usually was responsible for the death of others, who were brave enough to get in his way. If he were to love something, however, it would have to be his sister. He would kill for her, and dying now, meant that he could not protect her. Death meant that he was defeated by his own technique; not an honorable death in his standards. It also meant that Hiei had failed at something. Failure was not an option to the demon. He hated failure, and would go above and beyond to avoid it. His eyes opened wider, and turned pitch black. A final resounding scream echoed throughout the mountains, and his heart and soul was put into it. The Darkness Flame Dragon spun farther into the air, and caused a large explosion. Blackness covered the mountains, and Hiei's body was now elevated. His eyes began returning to their normal integrity, and color. His body was limp, and lifeless. The Demon felt himself fall to the ground, and the rest was a blur to him. He remembers feeling a feeling of darkness, and despair. It was as if all of his power, all of his efforts were wasted. Hiei finally awoke, and was surprised to find himself that way. He rubbed his body, and scanned the area with paranoia. His eyes widened at the destruction the technique had caused. He then realized, that he had used his right arm. This was key, as his right arm was usually crippled by the technique. A devilish grin curved across his face, as he began to unwrap the tape that surrounded his forearm. The bandages were used to conceal his power, and make the opponent feel like Hiei had a weakness in that area. Unbeknownst to them, it was his strongest asset. As he unraveled the tape, the familiar black markings appeared. It was the symbol of the dragon. Hiei jumped to his feet, and clutched a fist of victory, before he finished unraveling the tape. The Dragon insignia was now a permanent part of him. He had finally consumed the Dragon, and hopefully mastered the Dragon of the Darkness Flame technique. Hiei began to laugh very evil like, as the civilization around him was lit on fire. The heat did not bother him, at this moment, nothing could. WC-1,592 |

Hiei moved through the broken village with fluidity. His body was moving at a pace that seemed to make him disappear. His Jagan Eye was exposed now, but was closed. He wore the dragon emblem on his arm with a sense of pride, but knew he had to hide it. One never knew if there were demons that had escaped to the Earth. Hiei wasn't ready to take any chances. He had to find a sort of bandage quick. Hiei's body could only be seen as a few lines, that flickered through the air. The remaining villagers peered out, and tried to make sense of what was going on. They brushed the debris from themselves, and tried to mourn any losses. Hiei didn't have anything to do with that, however, it was time for him to move on. This is just the first test. I guarantee with a little more training, I'll have this thing perfected. I've consumed the dragon already, and now my power is incredible! I feel my Spirit Energy rising every second! It's just like last time! I can't walk around like this, though. If I get detected, they'll have a hoard of demons after me. I've got to find something to cover my arms! Hiei slowed his pace down to one that was visible. His body was pointed in a diagonal direction as he used his speed, to defy gravity. He would bounce from rock to rock, to make himself less detectable. The demon soon felt a presence near him. His eyes widened, with the exception of the Jagan Eye. Hiei stopped in his tracks, and scanned the area. Soon a tender, but commanding voice floated over his head. "Over here you dummy!" The voice spoke. It was Koenma. This time, he decided to retain his toddler form. His baby arms wrapped around each other, as he floated above Hiei's head. The demon rolled his eyes, and turned towards the ruler of Spirit World. He gave him a grin, but then let his frustrations be known. "Not again, Koenma," Hiei began, "What is it now? Do you need me to fight monsters, save Yusuke what?" "Close, but no cigar. I came to talk to you about that show you just put on for those mountain people!" "Impressive, am I right?" "Wrong. Scary, there have been news outbreaks of things like this for weeks now! You're going to blow our cover!" "Why should I care Koenma? Seriously, a few mountain people witnessed the Darkness Flame, big deal." Koenma growled, as his pacifier bounced up and down inside of his mouth. His arms released their hold on each other, and began to throw a fit at each side. "HIEI! You listen to me right now! If we get our cover blown, you will be trapped in Demon World for the rest of your life! That means no rematch with Yusuke, NOTHING! There's also something else I need to talk to you about." "I'm listening." "Have you ever heard of a theory about multiple universes?" "I have." "It's somewhat true." "What does that have to do with me Koenma?" "The universes are no longer separate, they're one now." "Hm?" "Yes, there's been an argument between the rulers of each universe. Instead of fighting each other, they decided to integrate each universe, so they can fight it out. There will be a tournament to decide the victor, who will get whatever he wishes for, and bragging rights." "Like the Dark Tournament huh?" "Yes, except more formal. I have chosen you to fight. You are the best suited for this tournament." "What about Yusuke?" "Yusuke declined, he doesn't know if he has it in him this time." "Don't mind if I do Koenma. Now if you could, take me back to Spirit World for a bit so I can play with my 'new toy'." "That's no problem Hiei, do whatever it takes to be prepared. The tournament will start in five days." "Plenty of time." There was a blue flash, and the two were now transported to Spirit World. Hiei stood in front of the desk, and nodded his head, as a symbol of thanks. He walked slowly out of the room, and decided to begin his training. Hiei was now back at the cave where he resided, and looked up towards the sky. His arms were now bandaged, and the power was hidden from the others. The Demon, looked into space, and stood up. The skies seemed different now. Now he knew that there were more warriors than ever. He would have to step his game up if he wanted to win.
If there are multiple universes, then there is a chance that there are reverse universes. What if there was an alternate me? Never. I'll slay him, I promise it. I'm glad Yusuke rejected this offer, because I'm going to win this tournament, and wish for the ultimate power. Not only will I be able to call the Darkness Flame at will, but imagine what I could do! There would be none above me, and all of those idiots will cry in my wake! They will feel the wrath of Hiei. Hiei smiled and began to unwrap the bandages from his arm. He started to draw Spirit Energy from his body, for one purpose, and that was to lure the Darkness Flame to him. His energy rose, and he began to feel it. The pits of the Underworld opening, and bringing the flame to him. Hiei's Jagan Eye flew open, and began to flash a blue color. Hiei smiled, as the familiar black aura appeared in his hand. Now that he was used to the technique, it wasn't much of a hassle to charge and release. Now he was sure that he wouldn't cripple himself. The demon watched as electricity began to destroy the rocks around him. All of this power in his hands, made him happier than he's been in a long time. His hand trembled, but he could still control the technique. Hiei jumped into the air, and let out a scream. "DRAGON OF THE DARKNESS FLAME!" The Dragon spiraled into the air, and continued for miles. It ripped through cloud after cloud, and continued to head into the air of Spirit World. Unbeknownst to Hiei, Koenma was watching. He had followed the demon from his office, and watched as he threw the darkness technique in the air. Koenma watched with some concern, and was impressed. "First, I questioned the possibility of the attack itself, now I question the wielder. He's always come through before, but will he use his power for good? Or will he be selfish with it?"
