"Hachi was a mythological demon that had changed names as he was carried throughout history. Many divine monsters and figures had characteristics and stories similar to that of Hachi. Nobody knows exactly where the story of the God of Swordsmanship was derived from but for as long as there have been stories, Hachi's presence has been well noted." The woman whom Nanashi spoke to was the local librarian, he had been directed there by one of the strangers as a place where he could gather information or "texts" and study them. The ronin himself could not read but luckily, the woman at the desk was nice enough to lend her skills and inform Nanashi of what Hachi was and how he fit into the history of man. "Interesting. Please continue Miss." The Librarian nodded, pushing her glasses up from her nose and turning through the next pages as she continued on. "Hachi is a name derived from Easter culture. It is a play on one of the deities; Hachiman. He is known as the deity of archery and war, a powerful ally to have on the battlefield. Hachi, the God of Swordsmanship is thought to be Hachiman's younger brother." So that was why he was so powerful, Nanashi had literally gone up against a God and luckily for him, the ronin had escaped unscathed. "However..." the librarian spoke out, catching Nanashi's attention as he had gotten lost in thought. "Hachi is thought to no longer be an omnipotent being like his brother Hachiman. After feuding with his brother, Hachi raised his blade in anger and attacked his elder brother. In his fit of rage, Hachi nearly killed Hachiman but with the force of one thousand arrows, Hachiman stripped Hachi of his divine power. Now a mortal, Hachi would seek out a way to return to the divine world he was cast out of, in hopes of getting to even the score with his brother." The librarian closed the book and looked to Nanashi, she was a bit saddened. "I'm afraid that's all there is. It is a good story on how emotion should never rule someone and that even Gods can make mistakes." Nanashi offered a faint smile and nodded, bowing his head low thanking the woman for offering her reading abilities to him. "Indeed. Thank you miss, you helped me a great deal. I think I am closer to my goal now thanks to you." The Librarian smiled and seemed glad she could help as she turned to place the book away, at least now Nanashi had some basic information on who Hachi was. With this in mind, he had one more place to visit, hopefully it could give him some clarification on just what he was dealing with and hopefully a way that he would be able to slay the self-proclaimed Oni. The ronin stepped out of the front door of the library and began walking down the sidewalk, he could see the Museum, it was brightened up by the many lights outside, inviting those in search of answers, at least that's what he thought it meant. Making his way up the marble white staircase, Nanashi could see there were still people inside, good. This meant it wasn't too late for him to maybe get a quick lecture on Hachi and Hachiman and see just why Hachi had seemed so dark. The akaige swordsman walked down the halls until he came upon the asian history section, here he was able to walk past and observe objects though nothing caught his eyes. There were swords, pieces of armor, tablets, scrolls and even figurines of ancient war lords, honestly, this felt about as home as Nanashi had ever felt in this timeline. "Well..at least there's no section on the "Red Demon." Nanashi smirked a tad, he was half expecting to see a section dedicated to himself and all the wars he had fought but even he knew that was a little self-centered. As he continued to look around, he noticed some strange designs on one of the stone tablets and that's when he saw it. Etched in the tablets was the story of Hachi's descent into madness, his scuffle with his brother and his last chance for vengeance. The tablet depicted The battle and though Hachi had the advantage, his brother had managed to scramble and grasp his bow, sending a hell storm of arrows into the divine swordsman's chest. However, what Nanashi did not notice was the blades, in Hachi's hands, he was holding two swords, one in each hand. One was glowing a dark red, its edges were twisted and serrated, the other was glowing a light blue a refined katana that was completely clean. "That's you isn't it? The Oni...his blade and Kanyou." Nanashi was almost in disbelief as he looked down to make sure that Kanyou was still strapped to his hip and in its sheathe. "Ah that tablet has caught your eye it seems." A grizzled old voice called out, Nanashi turned his head where a sharp dressed man approached and stood beside Nanashi, his eyes fixed on the massive etched stone. "Yes it has. I know of the story of Hachi and Hachiman. Two brothers whose bonds are cut by anger. The younger brother cast out." The old man nodded his head as he listened to Nanashi. "Right you are. However, it sounds like that's all you know to the story." Nanashi raised an eyebrow, turning his head to look at the man before him. He had a well defined jaw, was cleanly shaved and had a tidy hairstyle with a single curl upon his forehead. "After being cast out, the bloody fool made a deal with the devil. He swore himself to the service of the lord of darkness and became corrupt. The deal was that the devil would grant him limitless power, however, Hachi had to swear fealty to the lord of darkness in return. Hachi is forever under the control of the dark lord and because of that, he will never be able to battle Hachiman. He has limitless power but cannot use it unless ordered by his master. Ironic isn't it?" Nanashi wondered how this man knew so much but the story intrigued him. "I thought he was a mortal? How could he have gotten enough strength to get attention from the devil?" The old man chuckled and crossed his arms. "Well, those swords of his were rumored to bring about great power through his emotions. After having been kicked out from the world of the deities, Hachi was so fueled by rage that his blades allowed him to tap into a new kind of power. This is what began the sequence to his corruption. He cast aside that blue blade of his because it was the thing keeping him balanced, feeding off of his hate and anger, keeping him controlled. When he cast the blue blade, he cast aside his humanity. That red blade of his keeps him angered, keeps him fueled with hatred to the point where he has become a slave to his own emotions." Nanashi looked down to Kanyou and then turned to face the man, however he was simply gone. "So you were keeping him from going mad? Just like me..." Nanashi felt a sense of sorrow for Hachi but that still did not explain a pivotal piece of the equation. Why did Hachi approach Nanashi in the first place? If he truly wanted his blade back, he could have taken it off of Nanashi's corpse whenever he wanted, yet he let the ronin live and told him to become stronger. There were still questions that needed answering but Nanashi had a lot of information now, he had to train, he had to become as powerful as Hachi to face him but there was no other way than to go down the same path that Hachi himself went down. The path of anger, hatred and emotion. Nanashi would have to refrain from drawing Kanyou for as long as it took, until his anger and hatred could not be focused. "Very well. I will train in nothing but Shi-Cho for the remainder of my time. I must strengthen my body to even have a chance of being able to survive a rage induced state of power like that." With his goal set up, Nanashi left the museum to begin the training to ascend, to become more than just a mortal. Word Count: 1416 |

BGM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPDYdGtVdTs Day One "I must train my body to take severe punishment in order to withstand the negative energy that will course through my veins. Building my strength, endurance and stamina up is essential as well but I must not forget to keep my body balanced. If I am not careful, the attempted insertion of pure energy will kill me in an instant and vaporize my body into nothingness. I have made it a mental note to not draw Kanyou, if I do, all hopes of collected aggression will be filtered out through her and I can't have that. This is the only way to achieve the strength necessary to face down the Oni, if it kills me, so be it. A ronin's life is sacrifice, I walk forward into my own doom, knowing that I shan't escape unscathed." Nanashi had found a secluded area, here he would be able to train in privacy, away from civilization, away from the few "friends" he had managed to make along the way. He knew that he might as well vanish without a trace in an instant, the possibility that he would return as the same person was very unlikely, in more ways than one, this was the death of Nanashi. With a simple kendo stick, Nanashi began to practice his forms, Shi-Cho as a style of defense but even through it's seemingly harmless techniques, its counter attacks were vicious and deadly. He was taught to cleanse his aura when practicing as any bad energy he carried with him could alter his movements and make him a much more aggressive style. What he was doing now was something he swore he would never do, he was perverting the ways of Shi-Cho he was taught, their movements not fueled by concentration but by the goal of revenge and anger. Each block and counter was with the image of Hachi in his mind, how he would effectively break the self-proclaimed God of Swordsmanship. He toyed with Nanashi during their last encounter, when they were fated to meet again, things were going to be completely different, he was on his way to restoring the "Red Demon." Day 7 "My training is going well, I have created a repetition of exercises in hopes of building my strength up. The aggression I have inside is building and difficult to control at times, just yesterday I smashed the few boulders that decorate the cave within because I had misplaced my flask. My thoughts are becoming foggier, darker but I must keep this up, I know why this is happening and my only option is to power through it. If I am weak willed, the dark energy will take over me just as it did Hachi, I will become nothing but a mindless creature. Even still, I know in my heart of hearts that I can do this. The nightmares have ceased, I can sleep better now, luckily this is helping to keep my explosive outbursts tamed. There are many boar and a lake nearby that I can get nourishment from, it seems nature will provide all that I need to survive out here alone." Nanashi's Shi-Cho practice is now complimented well with what seems to be a daily set of pull ups from one of the rocky ledges in the cave. Even then, the ronin has energy enough to sit in the horse stance position for hours undisturbed, his base strength, legs, back are progressing quickly and at an exponential rate. Still, Nanashi takes time to meditate and reflect on the day in order to keep his mind quiet, the built up aggression is taking a bit of a toll on his mind. The ronin breathes heavily as he continues through a fifth set of pull ups, his shirt and overcoat are off so only his scar ridden torso is exposed. Each muscle in his back, obliques and shoulders flexes as he continues to lift his own weight off of the ground with ease but not just his own. Tied to his waist is a rope and that rope is tied around a boulder as large as Nanashi himself, even wider than the swordsman, yet it is hoisted upwards into the air with each pull of his powerful back muscles. Nanashi is coated in sweat, his muscles fatigued, yet he knows that this is not his limit, he continues to pursue forward, Hachi is far from his reach. Day 21 "My progress has been slowed down, it is as I feared. The rate at which I am going, my body cannot keep up, if I continue to train carelessly, I risk more than simple injury. Still, I have made a great deal of progress in the past few weeks. On the downside, I am beginning to lose track of time, at one moment I will look outside and it will be midday, then I look again and in the span of what seems like a second, it is sunrise. I do not know if this is an after effect of the dark energy flowing through me or if there is something wrong with me but I have not been in danger of this occurrence. I think it is a sort of autopilot my muscle memory has developed, to survive on its own when I am doing nothing. To seek out water, food and even exercise when I am not aware. Still, the thought of being somewhere without being fully cautious of it is alarming, I will slow my training down a bit, see what effect that has." Nanashi's body mass has increased what used to be a simple lean figure is not a more strength oriented build, still keeping it's slender nature but Nanashi's muscles have been defined. The ronin preforms vertical push-ups, an impressive display of strength and balance few can preform, especially humans, yet he continues to train, hoping to find where the barrier of a human's potential ends. Added to his, Nanashi is able to catch fish with his bare hands, even able to kill many with a simple blast of his open palm directed to the water. The force of his strikes causes trees to splint and the backs of them to be broken wide open. Nanashi's mind has become flooded with thoughts of only training, of only getting more powerful, his lust for strength is beginning to grow more and more insatiable, yet a shred of his humanity clings, meditation helping to keep his mind stable. The line between feral beast and man has become blurred yet the swordsman has yet to cross it, being human means a set of morals but to face a demon, Nanashi questions if his morality will hold him back. The ronin trains hard, his fighting style has changed drastically, barely resembling Shi-Cho anymore, it has evolved into something darker, much like the ex-samurai himself. Day 54 "Why did I come out here...? Hard to collect my thoughts...I can barely remember how much time has passed, its like waking up from a dream every time I come back to this book. I can't tell what is real anymore, yet this book is grounding me here...if I continue to do this, I will make it. I can't lose faith in my own abilities now, I will reach my goal. I remember his face still...this is why...this is why I am going through this torture. Just so I can prove to him, I am not weak, that I am more than a man. The fog is fading away...I know where I am. I have work to do, so long as I remember his face, I can keep going, I can get stronger. My friends, you will most likely never see my again. Kanyou has grown quiet, she doesn't talk to me anymore...this is what it's like to be truly alone..." What remains of Nanashi's past life is pushed back by the instinct to train, there is no moment for him to rest, the ronin cannot under prepare and his sense of urgency is driving him mad. Nanashi's hair has grown longer, the locks of red more shown since he no longer dyes his hair, the strands of crimson fall over his eyes as he goes through his improved training regiment. Hours are spent striking the bedrock of the cave, his knuckles are worked hard, the flesh no longer present as he continues to smash his fists one at a time into the stone. After brutalizing his own hands, Nanashi does the same to his legs, roundhouse kicks, shin contact on massive pillars of rock, causes them to shatter and collapse in on themselves. Every bit of pain is stored, every bit of hatred and anger for Hachi, the reason he has to subjugate himself to this torture only serves to fuel his power. Nanashi's health however, deteriorates with each passing day, his training only intensifying, yet through sheer hate, the man perseveres. It is only then that Nanashi recalls the pain he went through when he was dreaming of facing Hachi, this is what he has to prepare himself for. This is what it will be like to have dark energy coursing through him. Word Count: 808 Total Word Count: 2961 Edited by Nanashi, Jul 27 2015, 11:26 PM.

Day 106 "My mind and body have become strong. No longer am I hindered by my moral code, I am a warrior. I am able to see things for what they truly are, my body reacts before I can even think. It's incredible, I never used to have my fighting instinct this honed but it seems seclusion has proven to be a valuable asset to my training. I will no longer be recording logs of my progress, this only serves to take me away from my true purpose. From here on out, I have completely devoted myself to ascending past my humanity, Hachi will face me as an equal. This, I swear." Nanashi's outfit has been completely shredded, still, the tattered clothing is enough for the disciplined warrior to wear proudly, the clothing that he trained in every day. His pants are worn out from the ankles and shin area as he delivered thousands upon thousands of kicks against the many stone pillars of the cave. His sleeves have been torn, the shoulders ripped as his body has bulked up quite a bit since he first set foot inside of the cave. Nanashi survives off of what the forest has to offer him and since there is no winter in this climate, food is always present. Perhaps even more important than sustenance is the fact that danger is present as well. He has become harsh, brutal, blunt and though he seems more monstrous, Nanashi still has a vivid understanding of honor. The ronin is fueled with rage but will not let it take over him unless it is in battle. The swordsman can now imbue himself with dark energy itself.
