As you should know by now...this forum only accepts roleplays in THIRD PERSON (by means of using he, she, they, it, etc.) -- this is the MAIN foundation of our roleplay in ARPF. First Person (by means of using I, me, etc.) IS allowable, if you know how to use it. An excellent example would be HERE; though, you MUST be a REGISTERED member to see it. When it comes to roleplaying in a topic, please just use either third OR first person. Don't switch from one or the other since it will confuse other people. That means...if you started using third person in your first post, then use that for the rest of your posts until you're done with that certain topic you're in. Second Person (by means of using you) is a different story...but all I can tell you is that it is NOT allowable. - What is Roleplaying? Basically, you are posing yourself as a different person...technically, the character that you chose (either from an anime, manga, etc.) We are actors/actresses, playing and portraying a role of a character that is not ourselves. YOU, as the roleplayer, control the character(s) of your choosing; however, you must stick to the character's personality and actions. Please don't make a Canon Character (characters that were originally in the anime, manga, etc.) out of character. But remember, you're not limited in just roleplaying characters that are already out there. You can make up your own character if you don't feel like following the plot of a Canon Character. **Please read more about Roleplaying if you do not understand it. - What is First//Third-Person Roleplaying? Well, the easiest explanation of that is... "It's like telling a narrative story. You are writing the experiences of the character your are portraying. This is much similar to acting -- you are taking a role of a character." **Please read more about Third Person Narrative Mode and First Person Narrative Mode if you do not understand it. I'm sure it's not necessary for me to write about this because it's already written in those websites. __________________________________________________________________ Sample Roleplay How to Roleplay: (For those of you who are clueless how to rp on a forum.) 1st - Let's introduce our two random characters: Mizao (protagonist and hyper) and Toniki (antagonist and silent). [Here's how - ]--------------- (1st post - by Mizao) Mizao walked into the field, looking for someone to bother. She skeptically looked around the field for any signs of enemies. Satisfied, she began to frolic in the nearby flowerbed. Hours later, Mizao lied in the grass and looked up into the sun. 'So blue ... the sky...' Suddenly a shadow covered her and the sun from her sight. She squinted to see none other than ... (2nd post - by Toniki) Toniki skirted the fields for anyone to go up against. It wasn't until he saw a very small white figure dancing around in the flowers. Curious, he decided to wait a moment in the bush before encountering her. Hours later, he found her lying in the grass and looking up at the sun. '...............' He crept closer and was suddenly towering over her lazy daydreaming. With a deep, cool voice, he asked, "...Who are you...?" The end of the sample __________________________________________________________________ Color Coding And if you want to quote someone from the last post color code and italicize him or her. ------------------------ EX.: "...Who are you...?" Mizao jumped up in a haste ... blah blah so on so forth. Here's how:
__________________________________________________________________ Thoughts Also ... italicize and put ' ' (single quotation marks) around whatever your character thinks to himself. If the thought can be put on a different line, then please do so. It's very confusing to have it all jumbled up together. ------------------------ For those who are confused, here's an example: Hours later, Mizao lied in the grass and looked up into the sun. 'So blue ... the sky...' Suddenly a shadow covered her and the sun from her sight. She squinted to see none other than ... This is a good roleplay. Hours later, Mizao lied in the grass and looked up into the sun. 'So blue ... the sky...' Suddenly a shadow covered her and the sun ... BAD ROLEPLAY. ------------------------ Can you see the difference? Having the thoughts italicized makes reading so much easier and it helps everyone's eyes feel better. Here's how:
__________________________________________________________________ Correct Speech Try to avoid grammar mistakes, we can understand if it's one or two spelling or grammatical errors. But when it starts getting to: He bom-digged into da room and shizzled into da friggin' chair like a boom-shagged... Okay ... that's enough. Obviously that is very poor rping skills. Please avoid altering the English language in a way no one will understand. You can only talk like this when ... you're in the chatroom or doing it for fun in the RP section ... but don't make it a habit. __________________________________________________________________ Post Length Now now, this varies. It doesn't matter how long or short your post is. However, the length of your post usually depends on YOU. Not me. Not other people. YOU. Don't let the other members bully you around, saying "Hey, your post is so short! Make it longer!" or "Your post is super long! I'm tired of reading it!" NO. Don't let their words get to you because they can't tell you how long you should write. Write what you want AND need to write...and get on with it. That's all. There's a debate about this within the forum, which is called Roleplaying. Members are able to voice out their opinions on what is roleplaying about; whether a roleplayer should stick to quality, quantity, or both. In my opinion, it doesn't matter. It all depends on the roleplayer themselves, whether or not their posts is all about quality, quantity, or both. Roleplaying for fun is all that matters, not seeing it as a tedious job. But just remember that whenever you're posting in the Roleplaying Grounds, you MUST have a minimum of 2 sentences (short, isn't it?). As for the maximum length, well...that depends on YOU. If you're making a character application's Sample Roleplay, the minimum is 2 paragraphs (10 sentences in total) and the maximum is unlimited (depends on you). __________________________________________________________________ Okay, understand how to rp a character on a forum now? If not, then go to the FAQ section if you have any questions or just PM one of the Admins. It's that easy. Got it now? Goooood. Now go RP and show the world what mad rping skills you got. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Have any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions? Please send a PM to Uchiha Sasuki or Hyuuga Nagasaki. Drop a line through PM (Personal Messenger), which can be located in our Profile (by clicking our member name). |
