Roleplaying Rules ----- Copied from The Commandments 1. Read The Handbook. Don't know how to roleplay? Then look in the "ARPF Handbook" forum, especially the How To Roleplay topic. Basically the general usage of roleplaying is THIRD PERSON (he, she, etc.). First person IS allowable (by means of putting I, me, myself, etc.) -- that is, if you know how to use it. An excellent example would be HERE; though, you MUST be a REGISTERED member to see it. When it comes to roleplaying in a topic, please just use either third or first person. Second person (by means of putting "you"), however, is NOT allowable. 2. The Story. Yes there's actually a story line here. What? You think you can just pop out of nowhere in ARPF and roleplay whatever you want? That's partially true. If you are registered in this forum, you are able to read the Settings forum. Everything that you need to know about the plot line of this forum is there. Use those information to your advantage to base your RP off of if you don't know how to start your roleplay here in ARPF. The most important info on how your character got here in ARPF is the Welcome topic...so please read that. 3. Stick To Your Character's Persona. Don't make them Out-Of-Character (OOC). When it comes to roleplaying a character (especially a canon one), don't go completely out-of-character. Roleplay how they're supposed to act. STICK TO THEIR PERSONA AND THEIR PLOT LINE. We're serious, picky, and very strict about this! Don't mingle your personal matters to the character you're roleplaying. For example, if you're generally a hyper person and is suppose to roleplay a stoic character, you better not plug in your hyperness to your stoic character just because you want to. Roleplayers are just actors in writing. You have to think like your character; those thoughts must correlate with your character's persona. Just because you roleplay this certain character, that doesn't mean that you could make them do whatever you want. Those characters have their own personality. Even for deceased characters, you must maintain their profile. Like Uchiha Itachi from Naruto, the roleplayer has to maintain his indifferent attitude/posture...not making him all giddy and girly. We want people who can roleplay, not people who can be fans. For example, if you roleplay Himura Kenshin (from Rurouni Kenshin), then don't act like a total girl OR fan. Try to keep your character's demeanor...or roleplay another character who can fit your profile. 4. No Plagiarism. We're very strict with this...that's why we're repeating it again. We keep this site clean and simple...that means you CANNOT copy other people's work unless you are permitted to. Plagiarism means that a person copies another person's hard work without permission. If you are using websites that you copied information from, please cite it. But if you're going to copy another person's work, please ask for permission first or else you'll end up in trouble. If you don't pay attention to our warning, then we will instantly BAN you. And don't try to reason with us since we have eyes everywhere...we're not kidding. Each individual people has their OWN style of roleplaying...so, don't copy them. If you didn't know, some people here actually wants to be unique and wants to keep it that way. 5. No Controlling Other Members' Characters. Unless granted with permission. No. This is NOT allowed unless that character is one of YOUR account(s) AND is in the SAME topic with OTHER people -- not just you by yourself, that's just sad. You CANNOT control other members' characters//accounts, I repeat, you CANNOT control them unless you ARE permitted. Meaning, you can't post that you guys went to another place without the member's consent. Only YOU can control YOUR OWN character in your roleplay. Don't assume that you know what the other character that you're roleplaying with SHOULD do. It's not your decision. It's theirs. Try not to control other characters that doesn't exist, meaning characters that has not registered in this forum (Unless it's really necessary for your roleplaying posts). You can, however, control the non-playable characters (NPCs). You can read more about NPCs in THIS topic...but only if you're registered. 6. No Multiple Actions. When you post, only do one [or maybe even a few] action(s) and/or attack(s) each turn. You can't go and fill in ten attacks before your enemy or ally can react. You would want to know the reactions of the other people you are posting with. Need to be fair here -- can't be too all Godly about your own actions, even if you are a Canon character. 7. No God-Moding. We're very strict with this. This means you cannot overpower other people's characters, especially other members' characters that are already registered here. I also do not want any members think that they are all powerful, invincible, perfect, etc. Remember: Everyone isn't perfect. We all have flaws. If you disobey these, we will instantly warn or ban you. This implies to Canon Characters as well. Yes, we all know some of you are powerful (like Pain from Naruto), but try to be fair and not kill off other people or make them suffer any further. To the Made-Up characters: You CANNOT overpower the Canon characters who are generally more powerful than you -- but it all depends on your character's ranking. For example in the anime/manga Naruto: if your made-up character is an ANBU ranked, you are allowed to be stronger than the lower rankings below (with a few exceptions)...but you can't be stronger than the Canon ANBUs and any other people from the higher ranks. Canon characters who have supernatural abilities are MORE powerful than your made-up one. Why? Because they're just made-up characters! For example...your character cannot be faster than Uchiha Sasuke, Rock Lee, Kuchiki Byakuya, or any characters that are those speed demon types. You can't be as godly as Pain from Naruto or Goku from Dragon Ball Z. Are you getting it? If you're unsure, don't worry. Just post whatever specialties it is that you want in your application. We Admins will just tell you what powers you can keep and what not to keep. 8. No Sudden Character Killings. You can't just go and kill another person's character. If you want to or think the story might require this, talk to the owner (as well as to one of the Admins) of that character in private or through PM to discuss what's going to happen. CANON CHARACTERS THAT ARE ORIGINALLY ALIVE CANNOT BE KILLED. I hope that's self-explanatory. 9. No Interfering & 'Post Hopping'. This only applies to stories in the roleplaying sections/grounds. If your character doesn't look like he/she belongs there, then don't go there. It gets annoying when someone tries to jump in the topic (even without asking the ones in the story first)...especially when it is a 'tense' or 'private' moments. But this doesn't mean you're not allowed to post on the other members' topics. I'm not saying it's a crime. You don't have to ask them if you can post with them, just post if you really want to. If you're unsure about it, you can either PM them and/or post, saying "I hope I'm not interfering" or something. Just have some respect. As for 'post hopping', that means...don't just post and leave already and post at a different place and do the same thing over and over again just to increase your post count. Trying to increase your post counts to keep yourself in this forum won't work. Please try to at least post TWO times before leaving a topic. 10. Leaving A Roleplaying Topic. When you want to leave a topic, make sure you have at least TWO posts...then you can leave. We don't want you to post just once and leave already. Give the other members who are roleplaying with you a chance to write down their reaction. 11. Closed Roleplaying Topic. A closed roleplaying topic means two things: 1.) The 'story' is done and all the members who participated in there have left and moved on to a different place/topic. 2.) The topic isn't done, but has been idle/abandoned for a long time. On the second choice, we Admins would just usually close a topic that hasn't been active in awhile without questioning the participants so that we can 'free' the other members who are stuck will be able to post elsewhere. Like I said, post in one roleplaying topic at a time for your character. If you noticed that your topic has been idle and believed that it no one is going to post anymore, you can ask one of the Admins to close it. 12. No Multiple Threading. One roleplaying topic per character. When it comes to the Roleplaying Grounds, your character has to stay in one topic at a time -- unless an event is opened. In reality, it is impossible to be at two places at the same time...so let's try to follow that concept. Yes, I know some characters are able to make clones and such...but let's be fair to those who can't. If you want to leave a topic, make sure you have at least TWO posts...then you can leave. If an event is opened in the Surprising Events, then you are able to be at 'two places at the same time.' Basically, you are allowed to post at more than one place at the same time in any forums that are under the Alternate Universe [Roleplaying Ground] category. Otherwise it gets others confusing of where you are located in the other Roleplaying Grounds, which you are only allowed to post at one place at a time. So stay in one place until you feel like you want to move somewhere else. 13. Post Order. Surely there are post orders in this forum (in the roleplaying grounds) depending on what the situation is and how many people are there. Yes, we know it slow things down a bit, but if the person doesn't post for more than three days or so, then you may post your turn (if there are more than 2 people in the thread with one holding the post back). You don't have to wait for them unless you really want to. Otherwise, you don't really have to follow such post orders - depending on what post topic you are though. But, just give other people a chance to write down their characters' reactions. To those who have 3 or more people in a roleplaying topic: If a person's post doesn't necessarily relate to your post, then you don't have to wait for them...go ahead and reply to the other people. 14. Track Your Topic. PLEASE! It is YOUR responsible to keep an eye on the topic that you are participating in. Try not to hold other members (who you are posting with) down with your idleness and delays...not that you are being rushed or something. Just please don't forget where you posted your characters. To track a topic, click on the topic you wish to track and scroll down at the very bottom of the window. Near the clock image, you'll see the word Track Topic. Just click on that, and you'll be able to keep track of that topic. 15. Multiple Accounts/Characters. Having multiple accounts/characters IS ALLOWED. That means you can own as many characters as you want. With each character you want to make requires for you to make another account. However, please be responsible for your characters and use them for roleplaying. Don't just register a character and not use it for roleplaying. ROLEPLAY THEM! Don't abandon your characters and leave them as decorations. Log in them once in awhile. You don't even have to post a roleplay if you're feeling lazy. Just logging onto your characters allows us Admins to know whether or not you're active in that particular account/character. 16. No Unrelated Smilies. That means we don't want smilies (ex. : :P) on regular roleplay or text smilies either (ex: >>) to express what your character is feeling. Putting these are only acceptable in roleplaying posts IF they are put in brackets or something that indicates that YOU [as a roleplayer] are talking in OOC, not your character. Do this only in roleplaying topics in the roleplaying grounds. Example: [[Ooc: I, the roleplayer, am talking. XP Just leaving a note on the side.]] 17. Love Relationships. Yeah, yeah. We all know some people want to be in some kind of relationships. Sure, you may do that. Just PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep your intimate actions on a DOWN LOW. Some people here are not into those kinds of intimate things. Read more in "Relationships"; though, you can only read it if you're registered by means of making an account in this forum. Shounen-ai or Shoujo-ai are ALLOWABLE. Yes, we're allowing this kind of pairing in this forum ONLY if your characters are Made-up or a Canon pair. As for Canon to Made-up or Canon to Canon (either a deceased one or in a finished series by the way), well, you need to ask us first about it. 18. No Made-Up Members For Certain Organizations/Clans. For the anime Naruto, there's only 9 rings available [excluding Orochimaru's, which makes the rings 10]. This rule implies to most of the organizations (i.e. Akatsuki, Organization XIII, etc.) and Clans [that are almost extinct] (i.e. Uchiha, Uzumaki, Clan...not including the Hyuuga, Nara, etc.). There's a plot already made for the story of the anime/manga, so we suggest you use that information so that you wouldn't create a made-up character for a certain organization/clan. In additional to that, no made-up characters in specific CANON clan/groups...unless you have a very, very good plot to begin with. So if you created a made-up sibling or relative to a certain character of an anime/manga/show/book/etc, you just have to make an OUT OF THIS WORLD background information of that character that would totally blow our minds and would make us say 'that really fits well in the story'. 19. No Made-Up Siblings/Relatives To Canon Characters Ah, we are definitely very picky on this one. Canon characters shouldn't have any made-up siblings and/or relatives other than their real ones. Basically, this implies to every anime/manga/show/book/etc. However, we do have an exception. If you're so desperate to be related to a certain canon character, you need to have very, very good background to begin with that can easily fit in the canon character's main plot. For the anime/manga Naruto...we do not want any more Uchiha's and no other siblings of Hyuuga Hinata and Neji ... unless s/he is an original character of Masashi Kishimoto (i.e. Uchiha Obito). The exception that I mentioned does NOT imply to the Uchihas, which means that WE ARE NOT TAKING ANYMORE MADE-UP UCHIHAS...no exceptions! So if you created a made-up sibling or relative to a certain character of an anime/manga/show/book/etc, you just have to make an OUT OF THIS WORLD background information of that character that would totally blow our minds and would make us say 'that really fits well in the story'. Usually characters that are meant to be alone [as in only child], stays alone (i.e Uzumaki Naruto). Don't make it hard for the canon characters to have no parents then a sibling popping out of nowhere. If you're not sure, don't worry. We Admins will be the judge when looking at your made-up character's background info. We'll might give out pointers (and critiques) to help you fit in the main plot. 20. Post Length. Some people are really flashy and actually like to roleplay with huge chunks of paragraphs. That's okay as long as it's consistent and understandable. So basically, it doesn't matter how long your post is. The minimum is just 2 FULL sentences that actually makes sense...not 2 fragments, 2 COMPLETE sentences. I'm sure that's not a problem. But please, don't be stupid and call this --> (Wow. The End.) two sentences just because there are two periods. That doesn't make it two sentences. The maximum doesn't matter because you can write as long as YOU want. Quality is much better than quantity. Take what one of the members [Sora] said: Spoiler: click to toggle 21. Have Fun. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Have any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions? Please send a PM to Uchiha Sasuki or Hyuuga Nagasaki.
