Hey! Would you all mind praying with me for our Amish friends the Millers? I know, I know, the name......

We have been friends with this family for about a year now. They are so lovely :) Their son David was in a fishing accident. They were all out fishing one afternoon when it happened. His father had gotten his fishing line stuck in some brush. When he yanked on it to get it out, the fishing line came whipping back, hitting 11 year old David in the eye with the heavy weight sinker. He was taken to the hospital. His lens was removed and a ball of gas was put in his eye to help keep everything stable in hopes of the badly torn retina in place. He may lose his sight in that eye.

They had another look at the Drs yesterday and now he's being rushed to St. Louis to a special retina clinic there because the retina is beginning to detach, which means definite blindness. Please pray the Lord will supernaturally touch this child and family. We know they hunger for more! As you can imagine, the Dad feels so horrible and the mother is so upset. The poor guy has had to sit in a recliner staring straight ahead for 5 weeks now! It's been horrible for a boy who is used to doing chores and running around.

Your prayers are much appreciated!

************NEEDING YOUR PRAYERS AND HELP!!!**********************

_____________________UPDATE ON DAVID MILLER_______________________

I just got off of the phone with our Amish friends down in the Amish community closest to us.

David just had another surgery because they discovered a hole in his macula. His retina was beginning to detach, so they wanted to try to reattach that as soon as possible. The surgery went better than the eye surgeon expected and now David has ANOTHER 6 WEEKS of sitting at a 45 degree angle. He's 11 years old and his parents are so happy that I've posted this prayer request here.

I told them about you all and they have asked me to extend their address to you all in hopes you could write to David, sent him a care package or whatever the Lord lays on your heart to help him pass the time.

I sent him a Boggle hand-held game and he really liked that. Betty said someone else sent him an educational hand held game called "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?" She likes the educational ones because it helps him. She is getting ready to homeschool for the first time this year and will need your prayers with that too!!

As you can imagine, finding creative things for him to do is becoming a challenge because there are only certain angles he can look at due to a ball of gas in his eye to keep things stabilized.

She told us that we are doing much for this family....more than their own community. It is sad, I know, but this family is also hungry for more Truth!! I know this is a door God is opening to show our love for them :)

My son put ads in the local papers and an Amish paper called The Budget announcing a card shower for David. I am asking that you all would join us in this endeavor :prayer:

Here is his address:

David Miller
c/o Levi Jr. and Betty Miller
191 N. C.R. 525 E.
Arcola, IL. 61910

It has been such a blessing to hear of his laughter and joy in receiving packages and cards to help the time go by. I never realized how much a little guy looks forward to getting something........ANYthing in the mail. I've often thought about sending him some books on tape/CD or something. If any of you want to do this, please let me know so I can arrange for them to get a player....even if we have to take it down to them ourselves.

Thank you so much in advance!! And if you know of anyone else who would like to do this with us, please feel free to pass this on to them too :)

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Praise the Lord, Joni,

I will send a CD player, which I'll send either Monday or Tuesday. So then if anyone wants to send CDs, they can.

Stefanie

(I guess I should take the time to introduce myself to everyone else. I've been a member of the group almost since it started, but have never posted. I am guilty of being a lurker :( I have definitely found some informative and interesting reading here, and always read the prayer requests.)

The child that is going through this is one of my friends.

We became friends less than a year ago. I think we became friends because we liked simaliar things. So when I heard about this, I was reallly sad because we're like buddies and to me when one my buddies gets hurt, I cry.

So, I encourage everyone who reads this to send him a Get Well Soon card
or what ever.

God bless,
Swordsboy

Sorry Edith and Stefanie! I am just now seeing this!!

Well, he is enjoying the things he's received in his packages :) Thanks again to everyone.

So far, he's still hanging out. He'll be going to get the ball of oil taken out of his eye soon, I imagine, but I'm not sure as to the exact date.

I talk with them weekly :) He got a little puppy for a gift and ......the phone just rang and it was them!!

Betty (the mom) said that David had his check up today. The good news is that his macula is healing well and the retina has reattached. She asked that we keep in prayer that the scar tissue from the long retina tear doesn't hinder vision.

The oil bubble is going to remain in his eye for the next 4-6 months and they'll be checking on him periodically through then.

Betty wants me to extend their gratitude for your prayers and packages.
