Sonia had left her country straight after the State of the Queendom address, she'd spent much of the trip over to the Teutonic Union checking out what people had been saying on social media, it seemed mainly positive which to her was a big relief. She'd waited until after her daughter Mary had gone to bed, having promised to bring her back a doll for her growing collection, Sonia couldn't imagine any other six year old having so many, they'd literally taken over a whole wall of her bedroom. Once the child had dropped off to sleep her Venus Groom, CrownPrince Richard had accompanied her to the airport where the families private jet had been waiting. "I'll miss you" Richard said holding her tight as her bags were taken on board.

Sonia kissed his cheek gently before slipping away, "Silly, it's only for a few days, beside it's going to be boring business I suspect, and trying to understand a 16 nations 1 government type deal." She'd been reading up on the Union and it seemed rather complex, interesting none the lest. She began preparing herself for the arrival, she'd slipped her shoes off more or less as soon as she'd boarded the flight and now fidgeted looking for the left one that seemed to have wandered off on its own.

"Looking for this sis?" her elder brother Prince Marcus held up the black heeled shoe. "Must have a mind of its own" he said casually throwing it back to her. "Nervous" he asked her as he folded his newspaper into his briefcase.

"No.....yes.....a little" she admitted, "It's a diplomatic minefield, I mean do we negotiate with each Principality, or with the Union, what happens if we think one lot are jerks but the rest are ok, or even worse the other way round." Sonia began speaking fast, a habit she had when nervous, at least in private.

"Calm down" Marcus said reassuringly, "They'll find some of our customs just as weird so no doubt their Emperor will be sat somewhere going through exactly the same thing. Think of this as more of a chance to make friends, if monarch's get along then so will their nations." Marcus offered his advice just as the wheels of the aircraft touched down. The aircraft came to an easy stop and two black jacketed soldiers took up positions at the bottom of the aircraft steps.

Sonia stood up and draped a red shawl around her shoulders and descended the aircraft stairs, the two soldiers saluted her and she nodded her acknowledgement. "Mummy" a girls voice called out and attracting her attention, a young girl wearing a black coat over a pretty pale green dress launched herself towards Sonia who caught her. "Mummy, we saw you on TV last night, you looked very pretty, Daddy let us stay up and watch it." Princess Katarina took hold of her Mother's hand.

"Hello Katarina" Sonia said holding her daughter's hand tightly. "Now, listen carefully" the Queen said firmly, " We have to be on good behaviour now, at least while the camera's are here" Sonia nodded towards the watching TV crew, "So take my hand now" Sonia walked over to her Heart Groom William and hugged him before turning to the 15 year old Prince Marcus Jnr, "You been behaving?" she asked knowing full well he had, she knew he was a good boy, he always made her proud in everything he did, be it sports, school or events like today.

"Yes Mum" he said rolling his eyes in his smart pin stripe suit.

"Now, happy faces people, time to meet an Emperor" she said waiting for Katarina to take hold of her father's hand, with the Princess sandwiched between them Queen Sonia and King William headed off to where the welcoming committee waited, Prince Marcus Jnr strolled along behind them with his uncle after who he was named.

Hans watched the family scene from across the tarmac, he knew the husband, or at least one of the husbands, he found that strange for a start, had arrived yesterday but they'd not meet instead waiting for this official meeting. The Emperor and Empress stood in front of an assembled mass of soldiers in black jackets, each carrying a deeply varnished rifle topped by a brightly polished bayonet, the Huber's had left their children in school today, Joachim wouldn't have wanted to come anyway as he had sport today and they were playing football, no way did he want to miss that.

"Your Majesties" Hans said as the Morheim Royal Family approached. "What a great pleasure to meet you both" he said giving the Queen a quick bow before extending a hand to King William. "And it's very nice to meet you too" he said gently shaking Princess Katarina's hand before reaching to greet the two Marcus'. "It's my great pleasure to introduce my dear wife Empress Evelyn. The Empress gave a bobbing curtsey to the group before turning her attention to Katarina.

"I hear you arrived her yesterday, how did you find your first day in Thale?" she asked the little Princess. "You know I have a son about your age, I hope the two of you can become friends." she next turned to the adults. "It's very nice to meet you all" There was the obligatory standing around for photos before a series of vehicles whisked them away to the Palace.

"Now I must warn you." Hans explained to the Queen as the two rode together in the lead car, "When we reach the Palace they'll be lots of people, each of the Principalities wished to meet you, our nation are very keen to begin establishing diplomatic relationships with yourselves. We view your nation as one with very similar outlooks to ourselves, in most things anyway." he said as the car pulled through the gate, "Don't worry the other families are usually well behaved. As the car pulled up another black coated officer opened the doors, "Please step this way" the Emperor motioned leading Sonia towards a line of smartly dressed people.

It was Prince Erik of Salzgitter who headed the line, "Your Majesty" he said bowing deeply, "You do us a great honour making us the first place for your visit, if any of us can do anything to help make your stay more enjoyable please just say." Hans walked her down the line introducing each to her in turn, each keen to exchange some words.

It was however Duchess Masah Ivanov that was the ace up Hans' sleeve, the young was a superb musician, multi talented on various instruments and she stood last in line a flute held in her hand. "My Emperor informed me you are a musician yourself, I would like to play something to welcome you to his Palace." she waited for Hans to nod with his beaming smile, Masah wet her lips and held the instrument steady, the notes filling the air, she had chosen the piece well, one composed by Sonia herself to celebrate her Mother's Coronation Anniversary, as she finished she smiled nervously. "I hope I did it justice Your Majesty."

"I liked it very much" Princess Katarina answered the Empress. "Daddy took us to see the river and we ate ice cream in the park, then last night we had chocolate cake." King William looked slightly guilty as Queen Sonia gave him an accusing look, they made sure the kids didn't eat too much junk food and clearly that rule had gone out of the window yesterday. "I like making friends though" she said excited at the thought of meeting a new one here on what she saw as her holiday.

The Queen was slightly overwhelmed by the sheer number of people waiting to greet them, Prince of that, Princess of another, it was hard to remember them all but she was trying her best, she'd remembered most of the Princes and Princesses however to throw a spanner in the works it seemed that some families had sent heirs and other relatives and that threw her slightly. The Queen stood listening as the young Duchess played on her flute, the last note fading the Queen had tiers in her eyes and without thinking she gave the Duchess a hug, "Thank you, that was wonderful" she said not having heard the music for a long time.

"Is Mummy ok" Katarina whispered to her father who leaned down and whispered back.

"Your Mummy wrote that for your grandmother a long time ago, she doesn't hear it often, I think it sometimes makes her a little sad." he stood back up as his wife had finished talking to Masah.

"I hope that one day you'll come and play that with our national orchestra" she said giving her another hug.

Masha bowed her thanks for the compliment and was rather taken a back when the Queen hugged her. Hans waited for the moment to play out, it all making wonderful photographs for the Press before leading the Queen and her family inside.

"I've arranged for my wife to give your husband and children a tour of the Palace and I thought we could set up areas for discussions during your stay, I also would hate for this trip to be all business business business so I've also set aside some time for us to show you our country, although I fear that I may have upset some of the Principalities, but that is my problem not yours." Hans shrugged at the thought. He waited for his wife to take King William off to tour the Palace before leading Sonia into his private office. Despite the décor of the palace suggesting a 17th or 18th century date the office was modern, shiny metal framed desk with a glass top, the Eagle etched into the glass, a socialising area made up of a square of comfy black leather sofa's penning in a low coffee table. The walls on one side filled with bookshelves recessed into the wall and a large curved window giving views across the city from the Palaces high standpoint.

"Now if I may before we begin." Hans was keen to get this out of the way. "It is my understanding that once upon a time in Thale your faith began it's splinter away from the pagan faith of the time, for that I understand the people then living in this region began to persecute your people. Now I feel I must be admament about this I am not about to issue a great apology for religious persecution over 2000 years ago, Thale did not truly exist then and certainly this nation did not, however I know your faith is important to your nation and that as the birthplace of that religion we can and should do more to support it's people." Hans reached into a long thin box that had been in the centre of the table, he withdrew a scroll tied with ribbon. "This document" he unrolled it so she could see it, "is a land deed, it grants all the area 1 square kilometre centred around an archaeological site to the royal family of Morheim. The temple there is the oldest we have found that mentions this new faith and my scholars tell me is likely to be the place that your faith's founder, a Shona, began her work. I think such a place is worthy of protection and should be under the guardianship of the faith it created, I can think of no better protector than the Queen of the nation that sheltered for so long Venusians." he handed the scroll over, "I hope this shows that the people here have no hatred of your faith."

Hans waited for her to examine what she had been given before continuing, "Now in terms of an itinerary I thought we could spend the morning discussing some potential diplomatic connections, then meet back up with our partners and head to dinner, this evening I have arranged for all the Principalities to arrive for a little cocktail evening. Tommorrow I thought we could we could visit Dualdorf in Peine, one of the industrial centres of our nations and there discuss potential economic ties before in the evening going on a little river cruise, finally on the last day I would like to take you to see Mora, the Principality follows a different faith to our own and has many wondrous sights, there if we may I'd like us to discuss anything else you wish to regarding our nations, that evening Princess Camilla has arranged a traditional Odinist send off for you. I hope that sounds equally productive and enjoyable?"

Sonia looked amazed as the Emperor handed over the land deed, "I'm deeply honoured that your nation would do this thing for us, however I never had any intention of demanding an apology, I know full well that you personally have never carried out or ordered any act that would persecute people of my faith, you should not be held accountable for the actions of the past, however a recognition of understanding of my people's connection with this land was what I had hoped for, going this far is however beyond my wildest dreams." she placed the land deed carefully on the table and thinking quickly added, " The state of the site clearly dependent I hope that we could perhaps rebuild or recreate some Temple to Venus there, once that is done I would hope you would allow me to come back to its dedication and of course join us there."

The Queen listened to the schedule the Emperor had set up, it seemed hectic, but that would be good, it would keep Marcus Jnr out of mischief and allow her to see much of the nation they were visiting.

She was also keen to get down to business, "In terms of diplomatic connections I would of course be delighted to see embassies between our nations established, we already have some space close to the Palace ear-marked for such things, I would hope we could also base some of our staff close by your own palace, although with the nature of your Principality system would that be politic? I would be grateful for your advise on such matters. Also I think wider afield there are some tensions in the world which pose challenges for everyone, perhaps a method of communicating together freely beyond embassies could be a way forward and I would welcome any suggestion."

"Well Thale is our capital, regardless of who reigns as Emperor the capital remains here, the offices of government are here, as such embassies are based here, I would suggest that therefore you should simply send ambassador's here, all the families of the Union have access to Thale at any time they choose, therefore you are more than welcome to meet and talk with any family you wish, of course an ambassador would not be confined they would have as much freedom here as any of our own citizens."

"I assume you mean the current Japao situation" Hans suggested, "If so then yes it is one we're concerned about, we will clearly be watching the United Moreland attempt at peace talks carefully, we believe that a period of global peace and stability would be best to bring about opportunities for prosperity for all, constant wars are no good for anyone. " He sat and thought for a moment. "I would like to try something, I believe our two nations are a good match for this experiment and the feeling I have of how we could work together make me believe we can make this work. I'd like in addition to ambassadors our nation to have liaisons, in the past nations used to have their people live and work from within the other nations royal court. For the next twelve months I would make rooms and an office available here within the Palace, lets see if your people being entrenched within our court would help build good relations between our nations, what do you say?"

"Its certainly a novel idea" Sonia said, "We do have rather a lot of empty rooms at the Palace, days of the large extended family at Court have long passed, my brothers and sisters prefer their own family homes and my eldest niece Paige is more likely to be living at University, so the space is not an issue. I think it is something well worth giving a go." Sonia was pleased with the progress they were making already. "Perhaps then we should have some formal agreement, or is simply a verbal agreement between ourselves sufficient?"

Hans nodded, "I believe on this matter we can simply deal with each other verbally, however on more stringent matters such as trade, or military connections then I believe we would be best putting things on paper." The Emperor drained his drink just as there was a knock on the door. "Enter" he called and the giant polished oak door slid open. "Come on dear" he said as his wife returned accompanied by the rest of the Queen's entourage.

"Productive so far?" Empress Evelyn said as she joined her husband on the sofa as the Morheim royals joined them.

Hans looked at the Queen and then back to his wife, "Very" he said cheerily, "I believe we should be expecting some permanent Morheimian company soon, and we need to find one of our people to head to the Queendom, it heralds some interesting futures." The group sat chatting for a while before a smartly dinner jacketed aide entered.

"Your Majesty, the cars are here" he announced.

"Excellent" the Emperor said standing, "We've dinner reservations at one of our favourite places, its a small local BBQ place, nice big open pit in the middle of a rather nice establishment." Hans turned to the Queen's daughter, "and they have over twenty different types of ice cream" He'd once seen his own son Joachim try and eat his way through a scoop of each, however he'd been defeated at the eight scoops. The Emperor lead them all to the cars which we're given a clear escort through the streets to the restaurant. It was a modern looking building on the outside, large glass windows, however upon stepping inside you were instantly hit by the smell of wood smoke and the feint waft of smoke from a giant pit in the middle of the room.

"Daddy" a young boy waved across the room, a few patrons turning to stare as the Emperor made his way over towards Prince Joachim and his daughter Princess Magdalena. Hans ruffled his son's hair and then lifted Magdalena up, the three year old wrapping her arms around his neck. Evelyn had walked over with the Queen of Morheim.

"Joachim, Magda" the Empress said rather formerly. "This is Queen Sonia, King William and their children Prince Marcus and Princess Katarina. This is their uncle , he's also called Prince Marcus, they've come to visit us." The children had rehearsed and each gave a little bow before allowing everyone to take their seats. There were two empty seats around the large circular table, the Emperor looked at his watch and suggested everyone take a seat.

"I'm sorry, just I invited Prince Vinicio Fermi and his wife Clarissa they were in town for the evening and I thought it only polite to introduce you." The group ordered some drinks as a clearly flustered Vinicio appeared followed by his immaculatly dressed far younger wife. He stopped just short of the table and placed a hand on his heart as was the custom to a Isernian making an apology, they were always so over dramatic.

"Your Majesty, honoured guests" he said turning to Queen Sonia, "My sincere apology, we had some slight transport issues." his wife joined him smiling apologetically as they all took their seats. Soon large cuts of meat where placed on the centre of the table along with bowls of salad and vegetables of all kinds. Soda's were brought for the children while the Emperor ordered himself a beer and asked for a large jug of frosty dark beer to be brought in addition to the bottles of wine.

It was Clarissa who began the small talk; "So Your Majesty" she said turning to the Queen, "May I ask, how does this polygamy thing work. I could perhaps do with finding myself a younger model" she put a teasing hand on her husbands arm as he feigned insult.

The Queen was rather surprised by the restaurant, it wasn't the usual place royalty would come but it certainly had character, the smell of the wood smoke was rather a pleasant addition to the atmosphere and as they waited for the two latecomers Sonia indulged in some people watching. Young Katarina was already eyeing up the ice cream, sweet treats were a rarity back home but she guessed on a trip like this they'd probably be permitted to go a little wild, her elder brother Marcus though earned himself a scowl from his father as he glanced at his mobile phone, "You know the rules Marcus, no mobiles at the table, put it away or you'll not see it for a week."

"Sorry, I just wanted to see what the football scores were" he said as he placed the phone in his pocket. His uncle mouthed the words "2-1" to his nephew who seemed pleased with the news that their team were winning.

King William eyed the dark beer, it was different to the ones back home, much much darker in cooler, truth be told he was more of a wine fan but the occasional beer with friends while watching football was rather fun and so he helped himself to a large glass. He took a sip, "Rather good stuff this, very different to our own beers, although I have heard many good things about your nations beers." William said as he noticed his son Marcus eye up the beer, "You can have one small glass, and you make it last" the drinking age in Morheim was 18, however with meals it was not uncommon for people around his son's age to take a small beer or glass of wine in restaurants. Marcus took a sip and unused to the taste gave a cough or two making his father laugh.

The Queen smiled as the Fermi's arrived and apologised, "These things happen" Sonia said as they all sat down again, "Its a delight to meet you." As Clarissa asked her question the Queen prepared to give her rehearsed lines, it was clearly a question that was likely to be asked time and time again. "Well Princess" she began; "It comes from our religion, you see a long time ago our ancestors turned from the form of paganism they were following and began to believe that the goddess Venus was actually the most powerful of the Gods, we began following her teachings. It is believed that she had two men in her life, Vulcan and Mars, both fiery men who seemed to have been tempered by the Goddess, showing clearly that this way of life is something the Gods think fitting, as a result people of our nation and faith are permitted to take multiple marriages as long as they are loving towards each other. The Queen however is expected to embody the virtues of Venus herself and so for my part I was always destined to have two husbands, William was my choice, my other husband Richard was a more political marriage, one I suppose I have been lucky in."

OOC - As agreed skipping forward to the next morning

The royal train was waiting for them in Thale, it would be a two hour journey to Durdoft where they would visit some the economic centres of the Union. "Good Morning" Hans said as the Morheimian party arrived. "If you'd care to take your seat, we've got a short journey and then our families have a day out planned while I'm afraid we'll be getting down to some economic business." Hans joined them onboard and took a seat in the luxury arm chair.

The royal train was a vintage steam train, Hans rather liked it as it seemed a more simple way of travelling and somehow the smell of the smoke added to the journey. "I can assure you that not all of our trains are this old, we do have some fairly modern ones, just if your going to travel then if you can you may as well do it in comfort and there is something special about these old machines."

"I like them too" Joachim said cheerfully, "Can I go and show Katarina the drivers box" he asked.

"If her mother agrees." Hans said, "Joachim rather likes watching from the front, what little boy doesn't" he remembered standing there himself as a child. "Don't worry Thomas the Chief Driver always keeps a good eye on them."
