It had been ten years since Leopold had last served in an official capacity for the Queendom, in his younger days he had often enjoyed the hectic nature of visiting other nations, engaging in diplomatic talks and events, being the 2nd husband of Queen Anna it would normally have been expected that he play a minor role in the nation, however with his co-husband Edwin being a committed Naval officer it had often fallen to him to take on the roles. He felt the old excitement begin again as the aircraft touched down in Hochburg, he glanced across the small private jet, his granddaughter Paige was drumming nervously on the marble inlay of the table while looking out of the window. "You nervous" he asked her snapping her gaze back to the interior of the fuselage. "A little" she said not sounding convincing, she paused for a moment, "Actually a lot" she added with a nervous smile. "I'll let you into a secret" the bearded Prince replied leaning closer; "So am I" he leaned back into his chair, "The moment you don't feel nervous is the moment you've become too comfortable with this whole thing, but don't worry, it shows you care about your homeland, that's why your nervous, that's what you thinking of, don't let the folks back home down, right?" Paige nodded that was exactly what she was thinking. "I'm sure we'll do fine, I mean your a bright girl, brighter than me when I was your age. Look at this way, when I was 19 I was assured of one day marrying royalty, I didn't have a care in the world, I knew that one day I'd have wealth, influence, all that good stuff, it was only when your grandmother made me realise I wasn't going to be given an easy life I upped my game, I had to work hard to make sure I did her proud, I think I did." "You did" Paige said sweetly, Leopold may not be her biological grandfather but Paige looked on him much the same way as her biological grandfather Prince Edwin. "Thanks" he smiled before continuing as the aircraft began to slow on the runway; " You dear are naturally bright, I mean one day you're going to be some highly flying Marine Biologist, or follow your other grandfather in the Navy, probably command the whole damn thing one day. You've the brains for this certainly, just let me worry about everything else." The aircraft had stopped and the Prince stood, "You set" "I'm set" Paige said standing up and slipping on her short black jacket over a white blouse and plain black trousers, a splash of colour was added by the red and yellow scarf at her neck. "Good" he linked his arm through hers, "Lets go meet the neighbours" he said as they stepped through the cabin doors and down onto the tarmac of the hosts. |

"That matter being sorted" Leopold said rubbing his hands together, "What would your nation say to a little science project." Leopold had often been involved in the early days of MASA (Morheim Aeronautical and Space Agency) and was now a patron of their work. "We're looking to begin a project we're calling ARLIN (Audaxia Radio Linked Interferometer Network) essentially a network of radio telescopes working in unison for the international community, we're building two in Morheim as a start to the Link, now we have the patterns all set to go, we even have a company building another two for use next year. We'd like to see if this is a project yourself and potentially a few other nations see as worthy, this is something that the Queen will be bringing up with the Teutonic Union, our Foreign Minister with United Moreland, hopefully when several nations visit our Highland Games an opportunity will be found to bring it up there. The project would essentially allow us to learn more about the universe, I'm rather excited and it would be a truly global project should all go well. Clearly nations either funding or constructing an Array would be sharing information with others around the world enabling even greater data to be retrieved." "In addition to that" Paige began, "Is there anything you have to discuss?" |

"A global network, you say? So, internet on steroids?" He joked, and smiled, then nodded. "Yes. I would love to contribute. Would you like satellites, launches, or money? As for anything else to discuss... "Yes. There is. But a slight one. What is your nation's stance on the Japao crisis?" |

"The contribution is not a request for anything we need." Leopold began, "perhaps allow me to clarify, this project would, if we get enough nations onboard, see a global network of large antenna acting as Interferometers, essentially taking readings from space. One interferometer can help gather data about a celestial object, however by having slight variations in location we learn so much more, these antenna can operate either as an individual station or be part of this larger network we wish to create. If you wish to be part of ARLIN what would be required of you? Well simply setting up one or two of these antenna, either by making them inhouse so to speak, or by purchasing one. Other than that just a willigness to be part of the network." Leopold hoped he'd cleared that up. "As for Japao we're concerned, we have two nations both of whom seem unable to function inside internationally accepted norms, either through design or misunderstanding territorial integrity is being violated and so is protocols for safe air travel, at least from what we gather from what has been said, clearly often more goes on behind the scenes, we're just thankful a nation has stepped in and tried to de-escalate the situation as this UCA body seems intent on just pouring fuel on the fire. Condeming one nation over another while carrying out no investigation while mediation is taking place seems a tad presumptive, we're just thankful the Northern Seas seem much calmer places." Paige said, "I believe at present we're keeping a watching brief, we'll wait for facts to emerge from investigations before seeing where our nations next move is, if any" |

"I will be happy to help in any way I can. As for Japao..." He said, and then leaned back. "The entire thing is going overboard. I do not trust the west, and I do not trust Los Vatican. I cannot. I feel it may grow out of control..." |

"There are many nations who are often concerned by the shadow of Maddomia, they certainly give an impression as a nation that see fit to push deals with threats, however I believe that this time the international community has a decent stab at some kind of peaceful resolution, after all United Moreland have engaged diplomatically with both sides of the conflict and from what I understand quiet successfully, a trade deal with Vinitsia, a cultural connection with Ignatz and a recent visit to their capital by the Khanate. Now clearly things change quickly and we'll be constantly updating our stance as things on the ground change. Beyond that at the moment there is not much that can be done without inflaming the situation or standing on the toes of some small progress that is beginning to be made." Paige gave her assessment. OOC - Just unrelated......are we still in a car? Cos that's a rather strange place to negotiate deals...lol |

((OOC: Yeup. But DEN is an odd nation :P)) "Ahh. Yes. That is very true. We've got to watch our backs now, but even more so, watch our neighbors. I do not trust the Khanate. Not at all. If necessary for peace..." He left it at that and sighed. "I do not want the Empire to gain a foothold in the east. That would be disastrous for everyone involved." |

"Well wishing is one thing, achieving it is another. The Japao Crisis has clearly shown some indication of an expansionist tendency, for now though we'll maintain our watching brief and see what the current peace process brings." |

"Hmm. I do not condemn expansion, because to do so would be to condemn our own country, but I do condemn Los Vatican and their actions." Vladimir replied. "I shall do the same. But enough for now. Come, did you want to tour?" |

" A tour would be wonderful" Paige said, more for the thought of being able to stretch her legs. "So what is there for civilians to do in this makeshift fortress town?" she wondered what her hosts would say, everything seemed so military orientated, "I mean what's the biggest past times here for people?" |

"Glad you asked! DEN is a proud country with a lot of cultural heritage, and a strong sense of loyalty. Here in Hochburg, we have two famous theaters, where you can see many famous plays, musicals, and anything else on stage. We have skiing, movies, hiking, museums, restaurants, you name it. We are a culturally rich people." He replied proudly. |
