It had been ten years since Leopold had last served in an official capacity for the Queendom, in his younger days he had often enjoyed the hectic nature of visiting other nations, engaging in diplomatic talks and events, being the 2nd husband of Queen Anna it would normally have been expected that he play a minor role in the nation, however with his co-husband Edwin being a committed Naval officer it had often fallen to him to take on the roles. He felt the old excitement begin again as the aircraft touched down in Hochburg, he glanced across the small private jet, his granddaughter Paige was drumming nervously on the marble inlay of the table while looking out of the window. "You nervous" he asked her snapping her gaze back to the interior of the fuselage.

"A little" she said not sounding convincing, she paused for a moment, "Actually a lot" she added with a nervous smile.

"I'll let you into a secret" the bearded Prince replied leaning closer; "So am I" he leaned back into his chair, "The moment you don't feel nervous is the moment you've become too comfortable with this whole thing, but don't worry, it shows you care about your homeland, that's why your nervous, that's what you thinking of, don't let the folks back home down, right?" Paige nodded that was exactly what she was thinking.

"I'm sure we'll do fine, I mean your a bright girl, brighter than me when I was your age. Look at this way, when I was 19 I was assured of one day marrying royalty, I didn't have a care in the world, I knew that one day I'd have wealth, influence, all that good stuff, it was only when your grandmother made me realise I wasn't going to be given an easy life I upped my game, I had to work hard to make sure I did her proud, I think I did."

"You did" Paige said sweetly, Leopold may not be her biological grandfather but Paige looked on him much the same way as her biological grandfather Prince Edwin.

"Thanks" he smiled before continuing as the aircraft began to slow on the runway; " You dear are naturally bright, I mean one day you're going to be some highly flying Marine Biologist, or follow your other grandfather in the Navy, probably command the whole damn thing one day. You've the brains for this certainly, just let me worry about everything else." The aircraft had stopped and the Prince stood, "You set"

"I'm set" Paige said standing up and slipping on her short black jacket over a white blouse and plain black trousers, a splash of colour was added by the red and yellow scarf at her neck.

"Good" he linked his arm through hers, "Lets go meet the neighbours" he said as they stepped through the cabin doors and down onto the tarmac of the hosts.

Paige was often wandering around campus with her headphones in, she cursed her inability to play guitar but found she rather enjoyed running with a spot of Foo Fighters or Biffy Clyro blurring out from her headphones. "So what's the mainstream music here then?" Paige asked as they followed their host.

"Good question. It is a mix, but some of the older bands are rather prominent here. We mostly listen to rock and psychedelic rock, so bands like Pink Floyd are big. However, alternative bands are also a big presence here." He replied as he continued on. "It would be impossible for me to list all of the bands and types."

Paige thought that perhaps the commonality wasn't to be unexpected, the two nations were relatively close geographically speaking, so she guessed somewhere in the deep past they'd have had some kind of cultural connection, although that seemed to have all but gone. As Paige thought about her impression of the place she thought of the word "cold", not in terms of climate of course, that was relatively similar to back home, just a city built as a fortress, streets full of armour. She thought about Queenstown, its leafy green parks and cycle friendly roads, you'd be more likely to be run down by a cyclist hurtling through a red light than some trundling APC. "So is there anything in particular you wish to show us?" Paige asked as their host finished his explanation. She wondered what she would be shown that would be unique to the nation, she thought about where she'd take a guest back home, the Temple of Venus in the capital, its large domed but open roof bathing the giant statue of her Goddess in light, or rain depending what day you went, the floor could be lethal once the marble got wet and she'd witnessed more than one unattentive pilgrim go sliding and doing themselves a mischief, then of course there was the Great Venusian Lake, one of Audaxia's largest inland bodies of water, the beaches there were usually full of people her age sat around camp fires with guitars. She followed her host as she waited to see what was next on the agenda before they got back to business.

"Ahh. Well, perhaps you would like to see a certain museum. We have two heritage museums, both include a military part. However... One of them focuses on a city, and the other on a specific war. We do have a history museum, but it is up to you to decide" He replied, watching their reactions. The first museum he hinted at was a war museum, dedicated to the War of the Wolves, the war that claimed millions and resulted in banning religion. The second was also about the War, but it focused more on one city: Valkyrie. Specifically the old Capitol. Finally, the history museum was located in Hochburg, and featured exhibits detailing the numerous old kingdoms and traditions.

"Well traditions are always interesting, no matter how old they are they still give an insight into modern society I think, or maybe that was just an idea my History teacher pushed." Paige shrugged.

"It's certainly the case back home, I mean just look at the way the different ethnic groups embrace a national identity but keep a grasp of their own traditions too, I mean we're missing the Highland Games from the Morheim Celtic community while we're here." Leopold explained, "In fact I think your uncle Richard is competing"

Paige chuckled, her uncle Richard was a big man but the image of him in a kilt didn't seem quiet right. "So what's the tradition you think an outsider would find most shocking" she asked her host.

"Besides public executions? Hmm. That would be a difficult one. We've done away with many of the older traditions, and we did have many because of those dozen or so different countries, but the weirdest one is that when you have been given a weapon, armor, or gear, you must make it yours by putting your blood on it. It came from when we used to go into battles, every man had their own weapons, and the idea was that they would either draw blood with their sword, or have their blood drawn holding their sword." He explained. "So, anything interest you?"

"Well yes, public execution is something we don't have back home. Our nation still has the death penalty for pre-meditated murder and treason, but I have to say an execution hasn't been carried out in my life time, you see for a death sentence to be passed a jury must unanimously agree to it." Paige said.

"Simon Topliss" Leopold said, "That was the last execution, two years before Paige was born." he added, "He was a Christian extremist who thought it was his Holy mission to destroy the Venusian faith, fire bombed two temples killing thirty people before they got him. Apparently the most open and shut case in legal history if you believe some, he was actually caught while planting a third bomb. He was executed by firing squad, but even that was done in the prison yard."

"Ok, well we've covered most shocking, how about you show me your nations most fun tradition, or at least tell me about it?" Paige asked

"I don't necessarily believe so. But... we have a rather hilarious one. Whenever a person is elected to a high position, those who did not win toss the man into the icewaters for a swim." He said with a grin. "That did happen to me. Very cold out there. Anything else?"

"Not that I can think of" Paige said turning to her grandfather. "Grandfather?" she asked.

"Erm...no, perhaps this tour and then see if there is any more business to be discussed." Leopold said looking forward to seeing a bit of the nations past, at scool history had always been one of his favourite topics, Paige had long sat on his knee when she was a little girl listening to stories of his youth, it seemed like it was a family trait.
