Kurultai, The Forbidden City Guyuk Khan stood in his splendor at the airport runway just overlooking the recently arrived Gondor ambassador. The recent events surrounding the Biscalis region and the tiny kingdom of Japao had erupted a flare of aggressive military movements against the Divine Khanate, most of which hailed from lands far to the west. He had to admit, Japao and Ignatz had done a very good job in painting his nation in a negative light, drumming up support from a number of third parties ignorant to the true nature of the tragic event which had cost no less than four Khanate servicemen their lives. Now, it looked as if the entire west was moving eastward in a repeat of years of colonial aggression, using the excuse of Japao self-sovereignty to push their own imperialistic agendas towards a new horizon. Thus, it was a major imperative to seek an ally where an ally could be found. In the case of Gondor, a large nation which had traditionally had relatively cordial relations with the Khanate, the Khan was more than eager to invite the Gondor Heads of State to talk politics, tighter friendship and a mutual defensive military alliance to ensure that Eastern Sovereignty remained in Eastern hands. The Gondorian aircraft came to a stop and a staircase lowered to permit its VIP access to Khanate soil. Motioning for the two-hundred strong welcoming band to play the Gondor National Anthem, the Khan moved forward to greet his guest. "Hail Gondor! I welcome you to Kurultai, the Forbidden City - Capital of my Homeland and a proud recipient of your consideration." "I trust the flight went well, my friend? There is much to discuss about a friendship and alliance between our two Eastern Powers." |

"Thank you for understanding, my Khan. The King is bringing your future bride with him as well so that you may meet. He has already been contacted and is on his way. I didn't originally plan this, I promise. It's just that some of these provisions are quite serious and I believe that Eldarion himself should give final approval of this great alliance. I didn't mean to upset you, comrade." He said with an expression of humility. ****** 2 hours later. Goyuk Khan and the Steward were notified of the King's impending arrival at the airport. King Eldarion and Princess Kate would be accompanied by 20 Royal Guard, fully armed and in uniform. It's not a race superiority thing, just the history. It took an outsider to unite the tribes of Burnzibar into Gondor. OOC - Last Samurai is one of my favorite movies! Ethnically-wise, the Khanate is a mixture of Chinese, Korean, Mongol, Russian and Ukrainian folk (with people similar to Afghans at the northern fringes) as far as demographics go. The Buryat (Mongol people) are the dominant minority, having been the original "conquerors" of the empire. Spoiler: click to toggle "My Lord and Lady of Gondor!" Guyuk Khan bowed his head in respect to the two nobles approaching him before raising his eyes to behold Princess Jane. Almost at once, he was utterly transfixed by the woman's grace and beauty - her lighter features markedly 'exotic' in the Buryat-dominated city of Kurultai. The woman held herself well, the Khan thought, with unparalleled strength of poise and dignity that radiated brighter than the midday sun. Though well seasoned at sixty-five years of age, a strict diet, a rigorous exercise regimen and the latest advancement in hormone replacement therapy ensured that the Khanate's leader retained the powerful muscled frame of his youth; he looked scarcely a hair past fifty despite four decades of rule. He moved towards Princess Jane, proffered his hand, and kissed the pale skin of her wrist with surprising softness. "My Lady, I am honored to be the first man to welcome you to the Khanate." "While I confess to have felt some degree of impatience towards the Steward's request to wait for you and your brother, I must declare that I am completely glad to have done so. A few hours of wait have yielded me the sight of you - a woman of unparalleled beauty and poise." He smiled. "My Lord Eldarion, we have much to discuss.. The Steward of Gondor and I had come to an agreement concerning an alliance between our two hours - the union of two great nations before the rest of Audaxia and formation of a brotherly alliance that will not only withstand the test of time, but herald an age of prosperity and peace for our peoples." "My lady," he turned back to the Princess, "I would have you as the Empress of the Divine Khanate, equally the mother to my people as to Gondor. I cannot promise you a handsome husband, but I do swear before fate and all the gods that I will cherish you more than any being on this earth - and honor you more than anything else below the sun." |

When Jane saw Guyuk, she was surprised. She had been told his age and thought that she had been arranged to marry an ugly old man. But she was wrong. He didn't look a day over 40, and had a very muscular frame. All things she liked. His eyes burned with a passion for his people, and she admired that most of all. Princess Jane blushed, and giggled a little. "You are just fine the way you are, my Lord. You are a strong man despite your experience and I will be delighted to be your Empress. I am glad that you see that I was worth the wait", she jested, laughing again. "If you will cherish me, then I will cherish you and remain faithful to you for ever. To be the mother of your people would be an honor, as you have a great character and a rather handsome face, if I do say so myself. I will eagerly marry you." King Eldarion himself smiled, glad to see that his matchmaking had gone well. He bowed in turn to the Khan, paying his respects. "I apologize for any inconvenience that my Steward may have caused you. I didn't plan this, but when I was contacted about this, I saw it as wise. I am elated about the coming of our alliance, your Eminence. I agree that the brotherhood between our nations will bring an unparalleled opportunity to show all of Audaxia our strength and unity. An age of prosperity and peace is foreseeable, but I fear that some of the Western powers are going to want to attempt to ruin that. But we won't let them." |

"I am pleased to hear it, my lady." the Khan laughed, and planted another kiss on her hand. "My Lord, I had just finished speaking on the current situation unfolding with the rest of the world. I make no exaggeration by saying that as we speak, the West gathers their forces to mark on our doorstep." "The communist scum of the North and the Imperialist pigs to the west choose to use a predicament which has only been to the detriment of my state as pretense for 'peacekeeping.' We both have felt the sting of sanctions by the DEN - communist swine who are more than happy to abandon their socialist leanings to play intimate with Maddoma, Vinitsia, Ignatz and Japao. At least two of the four mentioned above are corrupt states which recently have proved willing to sacrifice their people, their honor and their stand on social equality just to acquire more weapons for use against the Khanate." "They've ignored a number of questionable inconsistencies regarding the shootdown of my MiGs in my airspace.. all to play the role of world policeman - a paper-thin role which barely masks a fraction of their true motives." "It is clear that we - Khanate and Gondor - must unite together to ensure peace within our lands and prosperity among our people. Make no mistake, if I had wanted to invade Japao, I would have already done so years ago." "Peace exists between us and the world simply because we have done everything in our power to ensure a cap on hostilities. We have acceded to requests for third party arbitration, allowed an investigation to take place and remain interested in a peaceful resolution." "Yet, they continue onwards with the buildup of military powers just miles away from my shores. I am convinced that trouble is only a greedy man's ego trip away." "So I say we must unite and prepare a deterrent to this Western aggression. Let us unite ourselves by bonds of friendship and blood - a common interest declaration to uphold the peace on our terms and in our lands." |

King Eldarion had a grim look on his face. As his plane had been landing, he had received a call from his Lord High Emissary informing him of the sanctions ((OOC: This was mentioned in my RP with Caos)), but he hadn't thought about what to do until the Khan had mentioned the situation. The King listened intently to all that Guyuk had to say, and he thought of a response for a brief moment before replying. "Yes, the North and West don't understand. The socialists and imperialists have a mind to oppress the East and put us under their sphere of influence. Their continued military buildup however, is another story. I recently negotiated a trade treaty with Vinitsia before all hell broke loose with the economic sanctions. They are sending troops, ships, submarines, and other military assets because they fear what you might do. I could see it in the Vinitsian delegation's attitude. Showing force at this point would only worsen the situation. No, we must take another course of action." "Sign a formal treaty recognizing the sovereignty of Japao as a nation and form a border. Promise not to violate that border. Back off your nuclear submarines from Ignatz, and show the truly peaceful side of the East. And, admit a small degree of fault in the tragedy." His look became more serious, possibly angry, but he didn't lose his temper. "You must do this. I cannot allow my country to enter an alliance and have my economy crumble again. If you do not do this, my sister will still marry you, but your marriage wouldn't be as happy. I would also have to renegotiate some of the terms of our alliance. I simply cannot have all this chaos right as my nation is getting back in its feet. If you don't make that treaty, in short, our alliance shall suffer." |

The change in tune was far from the best news, but Guyuk had expected as much. "I assure you, King Eldarion, that the Khanate has not acted in any aggressive manner throughout the whole of the crisis. We have always recognized Japao as a sovereign entity and will do so for as long as humanly possible. When given the choice between violence and the peace process, we opted for a third party attempt at compromise with United Moreland. When provoked further by threats of nuclear retaliation from Vinitsia, we stuck to our position on finding a bloodless situation and refrained from striking at the heart of Japao." "Now trade sanctions take place against our nation by countries we have had little contact with before in the past. I have not seized any nation's shipping or imprisoned any nation's civilians who did not kill any of mine. I've allowed Morelanders and Japaoese to visit the captive pilot who knowingly murdered three of my men, and the world continues to paint me as a villain." "You must think me a villain, as well.. my lord.. I assure you once again I am not." "I am as committed to defusing this situation through peaceful means as any sane-minded man in the world. To prove this to you, I will fulfill your conditions for an alliance." "I will restate what the Khanate has always stated concerning Japao's sovereignty.. it is a filthy den of gamblers, drunkards, prostitutes and drug dealers - I say this with no hesitation, since that is what it is - that nevertheless was recognized by the Khanate in 1887. It maintains the same airspace and waters that we agreed to in 1907, where the current border lies." "I will also admit that - per the Moreland investigation - pilot error brought two MiGs briefly into Japao airspace. I will apologize for the human mistake of my subordinates. I will personally speak to King Shinji Medeiros and sign a non-aggression agreement to hopefully kill the flames burning underneath it." "The submarines playing 'catch the ball' near Ignatz will return home, as you request." "However, I will maintain my stance on United Moreland's report - that there are severe discrepancies in the downing that must be investigated and officially dealt with. I maintain that my MiGs were shot down on my side of the border and that Lieutenant Takai will remain a guest of the Khanate until a fair deal is attained between Japao and the Khanate." He inhaled deeply. "You doubt my honor and my intent, my Lord. That is disappointing." "In spite of this, I hope that - per the requirements you've placed before me - a Gondor allied to the Khanate will show more confidence in its ally during war than it currently does in peacetime." |

Eldarion's face turned from seriousness to a smile. "Khan, you mistake my anger. I don't think you to be a villain or even to be truly at fault here. I asked this of you because what's at stake here is a possible nuclear war. You know that as well as I. I don't doubt your honor, else I wouldn't have pledged my sister to marry you. I know that I am being harsh right now, but the West and North would see it fit to overrun us if we didn't come to an agreement such as this. After this, if the West continues provocative actions, I won't stop you from doing anything. The only nation in the West that truly has any sense is the Morelanders, to be quite honest. I thank you that you have accepted my conditions. I will ask nothing more of you, my Khan. Doing this will change our image to the west and show them that we are civilized, as we always have been. I know you are disappointed with me at this point, but comrade it won't last. Since you agreed to my terms, I will now sign all of the treaties you proposed. "Indeed, my Lord." He gave Jane's hand an affectionate squeeze before turning his attention back on the waiting documents. A flourish of his wrist produced a pen seemingly from out of the air which quickly scribbled his signature onto the treaties. "As promised, I will make an official call to Japao's own King Shinji Medeiros to meet with me to discuss the signing of a temporary nonaggression pact in an attempt to wind down the tremendous military buildup in the Southern Sea. It's my hope that we can find a suitable compromise to this horrible business, but I reiterate my stance that Japao must meet my cooperation at a halfway point in order for any significant diplomatic leeway to be made." "Two of the three ballistic missile submarines stationed near the Principality of Ignatz have already been recalled back to the Khanate as a conciliatory gesture. The third submarine will remain surfaced as a reminder that while we are interested in a peaceful resolution with Japao, we will not suffer further assault on our territories or men in the future." "It is my hope that Medeiros and I can come to a peaceful resolution, though I must warn you that the man is a filthy degenerate fool with a history of making terrible decisions. Still... He is the Monarch that Japao has and deserves. He is the Monarch I will speak with and address on equal terms." He smiled, turning back to Jane. "It's my hope, My Lady, that we can be joined in marriage sooner rather than later. In the meanwhile, I invite you to stay in the Khanate as my guest and fiancee so that you may better know the land you will become Empress of and the man you will be married to." "You will not want for anything and may see all that my country and peoples offer. If you'd like, any friends and servants of yours may be invited to keep you company. I want only to ensure your happiness and comfort." |

King Eldarion smiled, but then one of his aides came to him and whispered in his ear. His smiled turned to a look of alarm. "My Khan, one of my aides just informed me that Gondorian airspace has been violated by some blazing fast foreign military aircraft. This alarms me deeply. I believe that you are right to keep that last submarine there. We can use it as a bargaining chip against the West. They need to know that we will not tolerate their advances anymore." Eldarion produced a pen from his suitcoat, and signed the treaties as well. "There, it is official. Let our alliance bring prosperity and peace to the East. Goyuk, I do believe that part of my positions on the issue of Japao has changed. I have begun to realize just how vile the people we are dealing with are. Our military is on high alert for the moment, and the Maddoman Emperor has recently accused us both of cyber attacks on his country. They stated that if we are found to be guilty, then there will be war. We need to make a joint statement of our own as you recommended earlier. We cannot let the West get the upper hand. I myself am considering a visit to United Moreland to rally them to our cause, as their allegiance seems to be swaying at the moment." "That said, my nation has a competent air force, but one thing that we lack are stealth fighters. Gondor has a fifth generation fighter being developed as we speak, but it won't be ready for some time. We know of your newer J-31 Kestrel fighters, and would be interested in purchasing no small amount of them for our air defense. Gondor would also welcome Khanate ballistic missile submarines to be present in our waters to act as a deterrent towards invasion. What say you?" Jane's attention was fully on the Khan, and she squeezed his hand back. "I would be delighted to stay in the Khanate. As your guest and fiancee, I would have a wonderful time seeing the different areas of the diverse land, as well as getting to know my future husband and Khan." "I appreciate your offer of service, and I will gladly accept it, my Lord. Their company to me will give me happiness in these troubled times. May our nation's come together truly through our union." |
