All the preparations had been made, the city of Hunter's Bay was standing ready to host Doge Augusto Tyre from Vinitsia, King Piripi was rather looking forward to the event, the first time he'd hosted a foreign dignitary. His cabinet had spoken at length about how the day should go, after all the nation had some customs that others would find bizarre, social ettiqute was a minefield for those unaware. Piripi though had shrugged this off. "Look they come as our guests in friendship, they'll do their best and we'll welcome them with our best" was all he would say. Which lead to this, much to the annoyance of his cabinet the King was wearing a suit covered by his feather prestige cloak, the colours of exotic birds stitched together to form a ever moving blanket of colour. To either side of him stood members of the Commonwealth Guard, the nations ceremonial unit, they were drawn from all Regiments and uniquely wore two cap badges, one of the Commonwealth and one of their old unit, the men served for two years before returning to their old unit. Behind him stood the represetatives of the people, 250 men and the same number of women arranged by gender, each wearing traditional attire. In front of the King stood Sergeant Tana Sevasi a member of the Commonwealth military as well as a national celebrity for his rugby prowess. The man stood 6ft 8 tall, his chest and arms covered in tribal tattoos even his face had tribal lines around his chin. His muscular frame was dressed only in a straw skirt, in his arm he cradled a war spear that next to a normal man would appear large but in his arms nothing but a twig. The visitors aircraft began to land and the military present shuffled into order. The King and Queen Maata gave themselves a final once over to ensure they looked smart before the plane halted. Sgt.Sevasi didn't need to be told what to do, he'd welcomed many people from the Commonwealth's tribes to the Palace from time to time and this would be no different. As the foreign delegate exited the aircraft to where the red carpet was Sgt. Sevasi let forth a fearsome scream and pointed his spear at the foreigner and in the Iwi's native tongue began his chant and the time dancing closer with gestures of aggression from his weapon. "Aye, ay! Aye, ay" I shall speak to the whole world The Iwi is famished. Let the foreigner and sojourner beware Today I am the destroyer of souls I am everywhere To the invader and killer Gone has my humanness Ocean I drink, fire I dine To death or victory my will is fine" For a good thirty seconds he stood ten meters away from the visitor his spear levelled and grim expression. Then slowly he knelt laid the spear at his side and produced a fern leaf which he placed on the floor before picking up his spear and taking two steps back still looking as if ready for a fight. |

“Pace Vinitsia” *Watching the scene, the Doge was surprise by what he seen, and didn't really know what to do about that and how to react. He stand, in front, waiting to know what to do. A delegate, following him, scrape his throat in order to ask the Doge to act. The Doge advance a little bit, take the fern leaf*
*Making a salute to the people, and advancing to the King in order to shake hands to give the fern leaf back* Long live the Republic, May God be with you, - Doge's Office Edited by Nova, Mar 9 2016, 10:11 PM.

As the Doge picked up the leaf the Sgt. Sevasi fell back moving to the side letting the Doge pass, as the visitor advanced Sevasi followed behind with exaggerated steps. He stood side on to the Doge as he handed the fern leaf to a smiling King. With a practiced motion King Piripi pulled the Doge towards him and gently touched forehead and nose for a brief second before standing back. The group of women began to sing a traditional song to which the men called back their own response as the two groups began to dance. Queen Maata stepped forward and did the same as her husband. "Welcome to the Commonwealth" the Queen said with a broad smile. "Its tradition that visitors do what is called the Hongi, we touch noses to share the breath of life, it now shows everyone who has seen it that while your here you're part of our family and that you're our guest, an attack on you would be like an attack on our own royal family, but that's not going to happen." The Queen stepped aside as a young girl in school uniform advanced carrying a cloak made from various feathers, the pattern on the back resembling the white with gold eagle of the Vinitsian flag. The girl put the cloak around the Doge's shoulders and tied it at the front before making her way back to the crowd. "It's a prestige cloak" the Queen explained, "Its expected that Tribal chiefs and high ranking people wear them when they meet, to not have one would mean that a person is not respected enough." By now they'd reached the car and the King held the door for his wife and guests to enter. "I believe they'll be no more cultural mine-fields" the King said once the car had set off, "Its just my people wish the best of both worlds, a more open Commonwealth, but one that retains its fierce sense of pride in its traditions. Its my job to ensure that this fine line is walked. Now I thought we'd head to the marae, its away from the Palace and is my own tribes land and a little more private, although it still showcases our culture. We'll be able to discuss there any and all matters you wish, but I will warn you there are three rules inside the Hall, no shoes, no food or drink." |

OOC- Maori have no issue with alcohol. The King thought for a moment, "Well in terms of our foreign policy we have in the short term a great desire to track down and bring to justice those who oppressed our nation for so long, to make sure that happens we realise we need to start ensuring we have open relations with the world, otherwise we'll stand no chance of finding out where these people have fled to and then bringing them back here. In the long term we're a nation that hopes to live out our days in peace and quiet where all our citizens can prosper, feed their family, enjoy job security and know the fears of the past are never coming back." Queen Maata handed the Doge a glass of red wine from the large car's well stocked fridge. "Its a locally made red, the North of our island has a few very good wine makers, its one of the very few things we can thank the Isernians for." she said grimly as she herself nursed a glass. " As for the future of our nation." King Piripi thought deeply, "Well we're less than 10 years old as a full Commonwealth, there are still issues to be resolved, despite the fact we've now all got independence there are still some who would see the tribes who didn't fight back punished, this has caused some deep rooted divisions within society, I hope to revive my great ancestors policy of Pan-Iwisim, a policy where people see themselves as being a member of a large national tribe before belonging to their own small one, but these traditional tribal roots run deep and many still look to their tribal elders for advice on everything ranging from which school to send their children in to whether they can get a mortgage. Things will change" he mused to himself watching the tree lined road that lead to the Marae, The car stopped in front of a red gateway and the King exited followed by the Queen. "Please step this way. This is the Marae of my own tribe, the Ngāpuhi, we came here on the Ngātokimatawhaorua canoe around 800 years ago. The land today is home to around 200 families who work together on the land, they have their own school here, sports clubs, its essentially a small village with all anyone could need, I suppose it is much like a communist kibutz in some ways, except people are free to also set up their own businesses." A deeply tattooed old man appeared at the door of the large meeting hall. "Your Majesty" he said with a deep bow. "Ariki" the King replied touching noses with the man before bowing. "That man is Kupe Hawaiiki the chief of my husbands tribe, its strange as such he is technically above my husband but as Piripi's authority goes beyond these holdings here he is above his own chief, it gets confusing" she smiled as Kupe stepped forward and embraced her. "Please honoured guests come in" Kupe said leading Queen Maata inside, the hall was full of carvings on the roof each telling the story of the people, half the roof was carved with intricate patterns and symbols, each to the Maori telling a story, the other half was full of empty wooden beams, "The empty spaces are to enable us to add to the tribes history" Kupe explained, "Now Taku" he said turning to a man with a small mallet and chisel. The man began tapping and with a few swift moves was ready to show the beginnings of his work. "This will become a Vinitian eagle" Kupe explained as Taku returned to his carving, "The meeting of a foreign friend here will I hope one day be a great tale for our tribe" he nodded to the King and Queen as King Piripi lead the Doge to the far end of the hall where a few wooven reed mats had been gathered and large comfortable cushions placed on them. "I know you'll be more used to seats but this is more common here" he took his own seat almost lying down. "Now if I may ask you to indulge me its a tradition that visitors regal their hosts with a story of their past, I'd be interested to hear of you or Vinistia's past if you wouldn't mind." Marae

"Thank you for your kind words" King Piripi said pleased that his guests seemed to approve of his nations little quirks. He sat and listened to the telling of their news and history. "Ah, The Japao Crisis, I appreciate your situation but I must tell you now it is something that we will be keeping our distance from, our military is one that has still got to come to terms with the brutality it has been part of for several generations, as you can no doubt appreciate my people can not support any military action not directly linked to our nation, beside that we're still undergoing some significant restructuring and rebuilding, our one aircraft carrier is a throw back to the 1950's and with the exception of a few left over Iresnian fighter planes our air forces last modification came in the very early 1990's, our land forces are superbly equipped and trained but as you can see our ability to wage anything but a defensive war is minimal. We wish you well though in solving this situation, hopefully without bloodshed." |

"While I thank you for the offer you'll forgive me that submarines aren't my most in depth subject, after a lifetime in the Army that's where my knowledge lies, ask me to give an opinion on future rifle procurement and I'm your man, after all I carried one for long enough in our wars, however submarines aren't quiet an infantryman's thing." He had been modest, the King had served the majority of his military career in Special Forces and even had gone on to run their training programme before a twist of fate saw him take the throne. He suspected had his brother not died he would by now be running the nations Special Forces programme. "Any projects we intend to get involved in will come once the Ministry of Defence has undertaken an in depth view of our long term needs, I suspect it will be the Air Force that gets attention first its probably been the most neglected in terms of numbers and technology wise its on par with the Navy. Should my Ministers come back and say we're in the market for a submarine then of course we'd be interested to see what you have to offer." |
