The Republican Imperium of Valkyria

The Grand Imperator wishes to invite a delegation from United Moreland to Castle Embla to meet with Philip Augustus. We hold you nation in high regard and would like to pursue economic and perhaps open dialogue in international politics. With the current environment of the world, we seek to establish a friendly precedent with many, reasonable and trustworthy nations. I hope we can come to an agreement and we look forward to meeting a Moreland delegation in Castle Embla.

Castle Embla, Two Days Earlier

Edward's kiss landed upon Philip's cheek, as he turned to reject the intended target. Edward pulled back, "What is wrong?" he asked, seeing the Grand Imperator's distraught face. "The church won't rest until I'm dead." Philip said, glancing into Edward's eyes. "The VPRA will see me guilty of breaking the Church;s scripture."

Edward stood up from the bed, slipping on his shirt. "You can fight this, the Church is not bonded to the constitution. As far as true constitutional law is concerned, the VPRA and Luthernas can't do anything."

Philip sighed, "Because of that, they won't rest until I am dead, or they will confiscate Imperium assets until they can amend the Constitution."

Edward was Philip's closest political adviser and sat closely in loyalty on the council, not only was Edward driven by his passion for the political intrigue involved in running the Imperium, but also his deep love for the Imperator himself, Philip. "You can repent." Edward suggested.

"Do I really want to look that weak and indecisive in myself?"

Edward sat back down on the bed, leaning forward. "Look, Your approval rating is abysmal. I think you should just stand before the church."

"That means lying and well..."

Edward sighed, knowing what he was going to say next. "I will...always love you but we're talking about something larger, a battle with these nationalist, keeping the lutherans from controlling the Imperium. Will you have to get married? Yes. You will have to have a family, continue on the Augustus dynasty."

"I am not going to degrade myself in such a manner that I am not true to myself." Philip said. "I love you and only want you."

Edward tried to maintain stoic as usual, maintaining his duty to the country. "I lu- look if we're not going to...you need to repent, I am sorry but grasping for foreign legitimacy in your administration is not going to accomplish much."

"I know, I should stop being a child about it. This feels dirty, I may as well resign, that's living openly but I'd be in seclusion all my life and...oh my."

"I think after this meeting with the UM, it's the best thing our administration should do."

Philip glanced, "Our? Remember, I am making these decisions."

Castle Embla, Present Day, Date of Diplomatic Meeting with United Moreland

Philip sighed, gathering himself for the day as the meeting was early in the morning. The United Moreland guest would be greeted with a formal breakfast by the Castle courtiers, traditional Valkyrian morning cuisine. As Philip dressed himself with the royal attire, his phone buzzed on the hard wood dresser. "Hello?" Philip answered, a sudden knock at the door reminded him the meeting was near.

"Lord Imperator, this is Speaker Radosław Wiechec. We need to discuss the terms of your resignation."

"No, we do not. You see you have not seen the Imperium docket for today, I am currently getting ready for-"

"I know, you will not meet with the Moreland delegation. The High Minister will."

"The High Minister will not meet on diplomatic terms with a foreign delegation. The Imperium holds the constitution on it's side."

"The VPRA and Church hold the people on it's side."

Philip paused for a moment, took a deep breath and sighed. "The Imperium has not officially allocated a report for it yet but I am due to repent my sins against scripture to the Church, so the High Minister shall leave me to the Morelanders."

The Speaker hanged up, Philip hoped that meant something good. He continued on, mastering the finishing touch on his upstanding appearence. He exited his quarter with the Valkyrian Royal Guard standing by, ready to guide him to the west wing gardens where the meeting would take place. The morning was cool and damp, only a light coat would be needed as the sun began to peak from the clouds. The early morning fog had cleared and the ocean beating the Grey Coast on which the castle sat sounded crisp. "Good morning." Philip approached the Morelander delegation, having practiced his English. After shaking their hands and an informal introduction for a noble, Philip sat down across from them sipping on orange juice, he made it no secret that he slipped some Valkyrian Vodka in it, he gestured in an offer to the Morelanders. "How has your visit to Valkyria been so far?" Philip began.

Air Marshall Jonathon Yates had accompanied Princess Jessica on this diplomatic mission. It was the first time the two had worked together, Jessica viewed the Head of Government as a bit stuffy, a career military man from a noble family he rightly could use the title of Lord but in keeping with tradition of the Kingdom used his military rank, meanwhile he saw Jessica as the loose canon of the royal family, but Queen Alison trusted her, and that by default meant Yates would.

The two had spent the day before seperately. Yates had visited a few museums meanwhile Jessica had hit the old market square, spent the day people watching, eating ice cream and enjoying a moderate number of cocktails before having a stroll along the river and buying her sisters and brother a few gifts including the fridge magnet for Robert, his locker at work was covered in them. Now as they sat opposite the Imperator it was Yates who waited for Jessica to take the lead as befitted a royal.

"Good Morning Your Majesty" Jessica said shaking his hand, "May I introduce our nations equivalent of a Prime Minister, Air Marshall Jonathon Yates." the Air Marshall was dressed in his finest blue uniform and smartly bowed to the Emperor.

"A great honour Your Majesty" he said before taking his seat and politely declining the offer of the vodka, it was far too early for him.

"Just a drop" Jessica said as though it was normal, being a 23 year old former Naval Rating she'd been in the ranks and as such a bit of early boozing was no stranger to her. "Well I rather enjoyed yesterday" she said brightly, "Sitting in the old market square with an ice cream, rather a pleasant way to see your nation" she said.

"Yes your museums were fascinating, I learnt a great deal" Yates replied. Jessica almost felt herself rolling her eyes.

"Now perhaps rather than have me trawl through museums" Jessica said rather bluntly, "Your Majesty could tell me some things of real interest about your nation." Jessica took a bite of her breakfast, "Perhaps you could tell me something the average tourist wouldn't find out about your nation, a little known fact to impress my history geek of a brother perhaps, or maybe some great artistic knowledge that would impress my sister Anna?"

Philip smiled with his smug grin. "Well, this nation is severely homophobic." Philip downed another shot of vodka. "So much, that I must give up who I am and repent to the church to maintain rule because the Legislature is so ripe with religious nationalistic corruption. Most of my people view me as a joke, if you were to mention my name then a Valkyrian would laugh as they thought you were about to tell a joke. Most of my people's original culture was expelled by the crusading Lutheran Church from the Teutonic Union and it seems we hate furries, though that is nothing new, the church hate's something every year, this year it happens to be elves and talking wolves." Philip downed another shot.

"Other than that, if you can look past the blatant hypocrisy and staunch nationalism, we're a very culturally rich country and so on. Surprisingly, our art is rather liberal, I am a photographer myself. Though everyone has phones these days, I still consider it a rare art.Valkyria is widely known for pioneering photography. Ansel Adams is a Valkyrian who I highly admire for capturing a picture for what he interrupted it in his mind, visualized. I quite appreciate other things, but I am at home with photography and cinematography. We are well known for what you could call, 'edgy' art films as well. If there has been any industry that has protested the church most effectively, it is film." Philip paused for a moment, ordering now some plain orange juice, to some surprise, he didn't pour vodka in it.

"Now, what about Moreland? It is a country I have always wanted to visit."

Jessica sat and listened to the man's problems, "Well they sound like a bunch of dicks" she said rather more bluntly than she'd expected, earning a stern glance from Yates, instead of back tracking though Jessica continued, "Oh come on" she threw her arms out while looking at the military officer, " So someone likes someone with the same plumbing as them, its been going on thousands of years and what's the worse that has happened, Elton John, that's all." she turned back to Philip, "If its any help United Moreland is a nation that is pretty open when it comes to LGBT rights, we've had same sex marriage at least twenty years now, I think you'll find that the citizens back home would be supportive, not that it'll do you any favours here" she said.

"Hmm" Jonathon mumbled, "While my Princess may put it rather less elegantly than her sister the Queen I can assure you Her Majesty would not find the fact your nation is homophobic a reason to not hold talks with you or support you at what we are sure must be a difficult time."

"As for my homeland" Jessica said turning to Philip's second point, "We're an island nation, the sea and water plays a vital role in our life, our faith is based around mystical water in caves" Jessica's skepticism seeped through, " We're a nation that essentially lets the military run the show, I guess that's our definining charectoristic, the pride in our military, I personally blame great-great-grand-daddy Cullen" she chuckled to herself, "You see he kind of kicked most of the other people on the island's backsides and told them he was in charge, slapped the military in the middle of the constitution and here we are today, an Air Marshall as the equivalent of our Prime Minister and a rather to the point Cullen representing the crown." she smiled. "In terms of culture, we're a nation more akin to a nice beer in the sunshine rather than anything edgy, edgy sounds hard work." She paused for a moment, "Is there anything we can do to help you, I don't mean Valkyria, I mean you? You should be free to be who you are."

Philip smiled, he found Jessica to be extremely down to earth and not another Politician putting on a show for diplomatic cookie points. "I inherited this position, not by choice but now since I have repented, I know that at times the country comes first before my own selfishness." Philip said. "Not that I am ashamed for who I am, but internal political strife needs me strong and at odds against the church, openly being Queer does not help the progressive movement, not yet." Philip sighed. "If the church had everything it wanted, I would be married by now and have a heir lined up, though the family life has always seemed like a bore to me, it is something I will have to pursue soon, if not for the country, for my family." Philip was interrupted by the nestling of his two spontaneous dogs in his lap, poking his leg with their snouts, after the small intervention, one laid at his feet and the other walked off among the grounds.

"I feel you have already helped me enough." Philip continued. "I mean, I've vented to you when you were off guard to my personal pandering. I honestly feel bad about it." Philip addressed Yates a bit more in his next comment. "I mean, didn't mean to lay all of that one you. I am sure both of you are here to discuss diplomacy between our nations."

"We're here to discuss whatever you're happy to discuss" Jessica responded.

"I am sure Queen Alison would be delighted to have some kind of diplomatic agreement" Yates was not sure whether this was the kind of monarch they should be doing business with, after all he seemed to have little power and certainly no backbone to stand up for himself. He'd be disgusted in a Cullen allowed themselves to be controlled by religious fanatics.

"That's the place to start certainly, I mean setting up embassies and means of communication for sure." Jessica said, "Although I think Alison would also like something deeper, I know she'd probably be disappointed if I didn't mention the League of Monarchs, she's very excited by it."

"Perhaps its early days for that Ma'am" Yates was clearly still trying to put distance between United Moreland and Valkyria, he sensed this church lot could perhaps be trouble, if they were against homosexuality what else would they be against?

OOC- I'm assuming this took place just before the persecution thing, if not then in my next post I'll have Jessica get a text or something informing her of your Church's statement if that's ok.

OOC- the text is fine

"Not to insult." Philip said. "But I think the Church stands in the way of anything like the League of Monarchs, not that I do not endorse it in concept, it's just with the relevancy of the Church, it would paint Valkyria in a more negative light to the entire world. If the church has not done that already." Philip poured me orange juice, he happened to really like orange juice which typically substituted a heavy breakfast for him. "I think embassies is a good start for light political contact at first. In the long term I don't intent in Valkyria remaining so isolated, as we're in the same region communication is crucial."

"I think we can both agree on the exchange in embassies, yes?" Philip was still visibly bothered, however he focused on the task at hand.
