History

The Foundation of the First Republic [1791 CE - 1800 CE]
In a quick and painless revolution, the oppressive regime was overthrown and a democratic republic was formed in its place. The country, now spanning hundreds of miles and reaching the borders of what would be known in modern times as Teutonic Union, elected its first president: Erkhard Hassier.
Five years passed and a man known as Adolf Stephens beat Hassier in the election, and became president of the now peaceful nation. The peace, however, was short to last, and four years into his term he died of a heart attack. At the time of his death, his Vice President, Gerald Bartlet, was supposed to be sworn in when the Chancellor, Gerhard Stephens, was sworn in in a controversial move. Less than a week later, the entire government was converted into a hereditary empire.
Angered by the sudden change of plans, Gerald Bartlet led a group of people to secede from the Empire and formed their own country: Franco-Tyskland. After a small battle in which the forces of the Kaiserlich were defeated, the country was allowed to live. But from that day on, tensions fill the relationship of Franco-Tyskland and KDEN.

The Antebellum Period [1800 CE - 1914 CE]
After successfully establishing Franco-Tyskland, Gerald Bartlet and the rest of the leaders of the rebellion decided to take steps to ensure that tyranny could never again be established in the nation. The constitution made clear the succession laws and prevented the establishment of a Chancellor. After the first election, which Gerald Bartlet won, the government focused on being able to protect itself from another invasion by KDEN, and set up fortifications and a military officers academy. The army, however, would never truly be built up.
During the next two decades minor skirmishes erupted along the border, some of which lasted up to a month at a time, but most were diplomatically solved. This continued until a very shady armistice was signed to prevent any more conflicts along the border. This led to a sense of security for the nation that barely had a standing army.

The World Wars [1914 CE - 1948 CE]
The armistice didn’t last, however, and in August 28, 1914, KDEN amassed land forces, and, in a massive surprise attack, assaulted the Franco-Tyskland in a massive spearhead assault, hitting Tyskland hard. The battles continued onward and onward, until they stopped nearly 100 miles or so from the current position. This massive trench line became the home to a stalemate that *technically* still continues to this day. Although very different from the current position. From here, the stalemate and demilitarized zone would stand until the opportunity presented itself for Tyskland to Counter attack.
A while after the stalemate on the front lines, a revolution broke out in KDEN and Franco-Tyskland saw its opportunity to reclaim its land. They pushed forward about 50 miles, before the two factions were able to push the Tyskland army back to about 20 miles, getting Franco-Tyskland only 30 miles of her land back.
The end of the revolution not only brought DEN to another era, it also brought about another war. Seeking revenge for the invasion, DCU invaded and nearly destroyed Franco-Tyskland, and drove them back to the edge. The sudden invasion made a power vacuum, resulting in a massive civil war fought by a multitude of factions.

The Civil War [1948-1974]
After the Failure of the Democratic Government to defend the nation twice, a Fascist coup d'état overthrew the government, and caused a civil war that lasted 26 years before the democratic government was able to end the fascists. The civil war was brutal and ended with a democratic victory.
During the course of the war, USSDEN erupted in a civil war, and the fascist rebels took the opportunity before they were defeated to take back some land from the USSDEN and established the Modern borders. Given the state of the governments, when the civil war ended, the governments of USSDEN and Tyskland decided to let the borders stay as is.

The Modern Era [1974-2016]
After this the Republic maintained peaceful undisturbed elections, with safe transitions and stability, leading us to the new election today when the old rivalry brings back it’s old divides.
