![]() The invites had been sent out over a week ago and Queen Sonia was now nervously expecting their arrival. Around the circular grass lawn stood members of the household guard ready to give salutes to any arriving representatives. Inside the grand hall in the West Wing a large circular table had been set up with each seat set with an identical folder, pen, notepad, microphone, flag and name holder. Bottles and glasses of water stood ready and a royal chamberlain ran a well trained eye over everything before satisfying himself that all was in order. King William and Crown Prince Richard, the Queen's two husbands waited with her on the Palace steps equally as nervous, this would be the first time they'd hosted a foreign delegation. Inside each folder sat a draft copy of the treaty that she'd drafted along with Prime Minister Aideen Sterling and Minister of Justice Aideen Sterling, they all doubted it would avoid the butchers knife but Sonia was at the moment hopeful. Draft Treaty OPEN TO NEGOTIATION AND EDITS OOC- Thanks to Ben, TU and Dave for checking through this. Now just turn up 16. "Speaking of Article 20..." Emperor Maximus raised his voice as he stood, and cleared his throat. "What exactly does that demand? A democratic system? A fully democratic system, I might add? Furthermore, in article... Let's see... ahh, article 18, it talks about freedom of speech and of religion. It should be noted and, frankly, widely known by now, that the United Socialist States is officially Atheist, having banned the official creation, maintenance, and widespread public practice of any religion whatsoever. We have also gone to lengths to ensure that, essentially, no political parties are present in our nation. This is not subject to change. Will this be an issue?" |

"I'm afraid for us yes it will be an issue." Queen Sonia began. "The people of Morheim settled here because our ancestors fled religious persecution from various nations" she gave a sideways glance to Emperor Hans whose Union ancestors had persecuted the Venusian faith a thousand years ago. " For us freedom of religion is a definite must if we are to have Universal Rights that end persecution of all types." She looked around the table looking for other opinions |

"I'm afriad we too would not be able to support this treaty without freedom of speech and freedom of religion." Queen Alison began "In regard to Article 20 the general public must be able to in some way have input into the political system, be it the power to appoint or remove individuals, referendums, or some other means but the people must be able to express their will in some peaceful means. For example while in United Moreland I have effective veto over all legislation and may introduce whatever reforms I see fit the people have an elected council which meets regularly, may introduce its own ideas of legislation and vote to either approve or disapprove of legislation I have introduced. That means they are able to engage in the matter of government." |

Lady Greenflame felt a great deal of contempt for the Emperor, even finding herself moving her hand towards the knife she kept concealed in the secret pocket of her dress. Moving her hand away she stood up. "If you excuse me I need some fresh air, Ser Martin please could you take my place whilst I'm unavailable," the man seemed surprised as nothing more than a bodyguard, Greenflame turned to the young man sat next to her, "Prince Rudolf, please could you escort me, I feel quite unwell."

Rudolf looked first at his Emperor then at their host before looking back to Emperor Hans. None of them had any idea what was going on but Hans' wasn't about to act ungentlemanly. "Rudolf, please escort the lady to get some fresh air." the Emperor stood as the young Prince excused himself with a concerned look. He opened the door for Lady Greenflame and followed her out into the garden. "Are you sure you wouldn't prefer me to get you a doctor or something, I'm sure the Morheimians would have one somewhere close" he asked once they were stood outside. |

"What is going on? Is there something wrong...?" Maximus asked, distracted from what was going on by the actions of the representatives. |

Inside: Martin sat uneasily, he was a soldier not a diplomat, he cleared his throat. "I believe my Lady was saying that article 20 needed to be more clear in what forms of government may be acceptable. As for freedom of religion, no matter how atheist a nation surely people should be free to believe and express their beliefs in whatever way they wish as long as it harms no one else. The kingdoms are prodominantly religous and there hasn't been a war due to religous causes in the Centralian nation's history." Outside: Greenflame began just stood in silence, a few tears streaming down her face, "I'm sorry you shouldn't have to deal with this." |

"Not a single one of you here knows the true dangers of religion. No one here, except me, has waded through the blood filled streets of Valkyrie when the Cultists rebelled. No, religion in DEN is banned on a mass scale. We won't let it happen again." Maximus said, his face hardened by the memories it brought up. |
