cheers dude i'll look that over, but honestly the best way i learn things, is to actully do them. erm(braindead right now) I'm more thinking on character idea's, currently its sitting on a bodger or arcane mecankic, and more the personality of the character too. As for torrents i looked at it, but it seemed dodgy and wrong, that and i really wanna own the world guide, in that I can have it and yank it off the shelf and such, all, i think Matt might have a 3.5 players guide, or rules or sommat, (it sat in my book rack for gosh knows how long) so have the majority of the core stuff, it would be cool to have the expansions for liber mechcakica, five fingers the two monsternomicons(i'm pretty sure we'll have to get one of those Monsternomicons at the least.)

Anyways...erm more when i get a brain back.

I agree with you on the download stuff, I'd rather feel the heavy weight of the knowledge in my hands, more real that way. I have a lot of 3.5ed stuff that I brought over on disc, so I may be able to supplement us along the way. I've downloaded the IK Character sheets and spell list sheets, so we can reproduce them. We'll have to get at least MNom 1. for the IK monsters, but I'm sure we can get along with the monster database that I have, and get the Monster manuals as we can. The 3.5ed AD&D Monster manual is 10 quid new from Amazon so no problem there.
When it comes to characters (This is for all prospective Players) and your choice of character. It helps a lot to go with something that's close to home, stuff that interests and fits into your own personality.
i.e. I usually play a Bard, Thief, Scorcerer or Mage, or mix them up in multiclasses. These classes suite my way of playing. If you are more 'back-line' yourself then go for a ranged type character, one that's gonna fight from a distance or with sneaky stuff. If you are more aggressive or 'forward' then try for a 'tank' type character, i.e. Fighter, Barbarian, Ranger (melee orientated). Dwarves (Rhulic) and Humans make good fighters. Skarde and Iosans would make good Rogues, Scorcerers, Mages. Ogryn and Trollkin are tanks...fullstop. Bogrin and Gobbers are sneaky cowards, so the Rogue, Mech, Alchemist are good for them. Each Race will have classes that work better for them, and their racial advantages work to the advantage of the class.
When it comes to the IK, remember that there are many racial groups even amongst the humans, so each area may have special advantages to others. The Laelan people are intelligent and refined, so the Magical arts comes easier to them. The Khardic are more 'Spartan' and more martial. The Ordic are good seafarers, etc. Your secondary skills (Professions) are very important and may be the only means of making money outside of adventuring. It may also be the only way to get a better social rating.
This is something that we will work on all through the game, your reputation and social standing. So diplomacy and tact are good skills, so is intimidation and mis-information (bluffing).
Something that I've come across in many threads on the IK forum is that players gripe about the amounts of Gold they aquire, even through adventure. The wealth factor seems to be more downplayed than in AD&D. So using your money wisely and saving for that important magically/mechanically enhanced weapon is important. Thus a little planning will go a long way.

What you get and What I need:

Start off at Level 1 with max HP. (Hit Points)

No evil aligments.

Free equipment is as follows:

Backpack
Length of rope (10 ft)
Bedroll
Flint and Steel
Seven Days Rations
A Full Waterskin
One Outfit of clothes (appropriate to PC class and race, listed in Character Guide)
A dagger or knife
One weapon (as per Class restrictions)
You may add personal items, so long as they don't add to or effect your character game-wise (Aunty Aggie gives you an amulet of protection +8 vs undead, who explode when they come within 10 feet of you, IS OUT!) (i.e. an inlaid scrollcase, a silver charm, a small book of verse, an ornate fruit knife, etc)

What I need from you all is:
A Character Class, Race, Name, Alignment
NB - A Backstory. Your character must have a rudimentary history. Most players start off at the initial starting ages for their race (in IKCG).
Where does your character come from,
family
friends
life-changing events (if any)
Why are you adventuring
Try figure out a negative and positive character trait, this helps to build the character and personality, and the motivations for or against things. It'll also help you to react like your character in different situations. (i.e. A short-tempered Character will rush into fights, and be intimidating and possibly rude)
Any personal side-plots that you can add, i.e. looking for a lost family heirloom, trying to clear their name of a crime, looking for a cure for a diseased loved one, etc. (This helps me, help you to develop the story in a more personal way for all the players).
The less you give me the more I'll make up for you, so don't make work for me and I won't give you hereditary ailments and ancient curses !!

Life changing event: losing out on a title in khador and being exiled for killing her parents (she was anoyed they gave her title to her sister as she was the first to find a suiter)

Cool one Cammy, I must warn you tho', it's not easy playing a convincing woman, unless you're really quite in touch with your feminine side. But go for it, it'll make for a lot of roleplaying fun.
The magic-users only get light armour abilities, or they have to spend a long time learning how to cast in medium/heavy armour.
The spells can have up to three components. Verbal, Somantic, Material. i.e. Lightning Bolt: V-Shazam, M-4" glass rod, S-rub the rod through your hair, creating static and point with a flicking action, toward your target (while saying the Verbal part) So, whip out Glass Rod, rub thru' hair, point aggressively and "Shazam!" If you're wearing armour it makes all that very difficult, and so there's a chance that you screw it up and cause a 'misfire' possibly whacking a mate or the spell alters and becomes something you didn't want. Lots of Fun. (We once had a one armed Mage in our party, that was 'fun'!)
There are two kinds of Magic user, the Wizard/Mage (Arcanist) who learns their spells and commits them to memory. They need to take out time every day to learn any spells they think that they might need. Then there's the Scorcerer, who has a natural ability to channel the magical energy through themselves, converting it into the effect they want as it 'passes thru' them. Scorcerers don't need to learn their spells, but they get given a limited number of spell slots to use every day.( A level 1 spell costs 1 slot, a lvl 2 spell costs 2 slots, etc) They can cast any spells from the whole spell list for that level, but only so many per day.
So the Wizard/Mage gets more spells but they must choose them in advance (learning them in preparation for the next day's adventuring), while the Scorcerer basically 'recharges' thru' a bit of meditation, can use any spells available, but can't cast them as many times as the Mage.
For a bit of heavy magic related reading see Hypothesis of Arcane Physics. It's a very good read, Doug Seacat adds info, and it can help a lot towards your understanding of magic workings in Caen.

i'll have a go at being female thought the way i picture her in my head is more ***** than human ( just think of a rude word with 5 letters), reckon she will be a mage as she is forced to get by on her own wiles (like the cyote) with V.S.M as rings -material finger click somatic and some kind of catch phrase for verbal. 'better luck next time sugar' or something to that efect. god even writing that feels weird :ermm:

when is the rpg starting cos i need to know iif i will be there at the start.
It'll take a little while yet, but as soon as we have the manuals we can get together and generate the characters.
The story arc is something that I'll work on, but what I'll need from you guys is where we start from.
So Cammy wants a Khadoran (altho' not a lover of Khador and it's politics), this kinda cuts out any Cygnar characters.
The race/region of your character is essentially important to your views of the rest of Immoren's peoples, but it is not as important as the Classes you choose.
So freelancers/merc's is where it seems we're going.
A Khadoran 'noble', A Gobber mechanic, oooh what's next...WebWraith with a reformed Satyrix Raider?

We don't need to start off in Five Fingers, I want to get my hands on the new Poster map, it's updated and in full colour. It'll make life a whole lot easier when we start playing. The city maps can be created so it doesn't have to be a large town we start in.
A lot of games start off in the classic Inn meeting scene, I'd like to get away from that especially since we're probably gonna have characters that don't mix too well with the general populace. The more dodgy your characters are, the more dodgy the game is gonna play out, but leave that to me.
