Ask yourself, as an Exiled Khadoran petty noble, how do you feel about the Khador military, the whole of Cygnar and the Rynn people, the Menites - your family might be Khador/Menites. You're not even prepared to try and get into the military in Khador and work your way up in the world, like Sorchia - the soldiers daughter, or Haley - the Fisherman's daughter, or Kreos - the miner's son? So how do you think you would react in a pub, if a Cygnar patrol walked in?...would you sit quietly and stay calm, or would you get irrate and agressive with them when they want to see your 'papers'. This is a world caught within the grip of war, war breeds traitors and spies. You have the accent of the enemy, and 'look funny'. |

The way it all works is based on Encounter levels. So that I don't kill you off in the first session. Depending on your character levels, as an adventuring party, there is a table of what is considered an appropriate challenge for you guys. These challenges should test your skills and possibly, based on your possessions; take away one 6th of what you have, i.e. Hit Points (wounds), potions, spells, ammo, armour quality, etc. Each Encounter will give you some experience, this is a point based system. Experience Points (XP) are earned thru' combat, gameplay, roleplay, being 'in character', use of skills and abilities to the advancement of the game as a whole. Rewards can also include items found, information gained, personal quest info, etc. So not all your rewards are points based, just like the gameplay is not all combat based. Mages can use up XP to create items, like scrolls, wands, arcane plates, etc. So they advance slower than other classes, but get rich or powerful in the process. Monsters (animals, etc) are random things that move about areas where they hunt or live. If you move thru' that area there is a chance that you run into these denizens. I really like the human 'monster', the intellient adversary. You can expect to have encounters with bandits and robbers, thieves and military, predators and scavengers. Some DM's like to create combat orientated games, know as 'Dungeon Hacks', which they sadly are. Nothing more than combat and death...and boredom eventually, if you didn't die. These type of adventures don't need any background and the players usually don't bother any more than trying to make their characters Suped-up and indestructable. They don't want to think too hard, they want to kill everything and discover all the treasure, and become God's. The monsters are always mindless and usually animal. No tactics envolved, Yuck! So I try to balance the game between the fighting and the acting. If you don't like play-acting (roleplaying) too much, then choose a character that's stoic and silent. Each player rolls a set of Statistics (6) between 3-18 points (usually 3D6, but I'll explain later). Each Class benefits from different stats: Stat - Classes - Benefit Strength - Fighter - (How hard you hit) Dexterity - Rogue, Ranger - (Balance, Ranged weapons, Armour bonus) Constitution - All - (Health, Hit Points, poison resistance) Intelligence - Mage/Arcanist - (Skill points per lvl, Arcane magical ability) Wisdom - Priest/Cleric, Monk - (Willpower, Mental attack resistance) Charisma - Rogue, Bard, Scorcerer - (People skills, Innate magical ability, looks) Half Constitution + Charisma = Comliness (pretty or not) So as an example, lets take your character: (I'm not saying you should play her this way) She's 'noble' so she's a bit stuck-up, but Intelligent (Magic). Doesn't like to do petty things for herself, like polish boots or wash clothes, feed horses, etc. She likes to feel important and in control. She's healthy, since she was born rich and had good food (Constitution). She has a way of controlling people, making them feel like they should do as she says (Charisma) Edited by Gelfin, Jul 10 2008, 08:21 AM.

well, to erm respond to a thing said eariler, i wouldnt mind Gm'ing, but being as i've never even played D&D before, i'd to get at least one campainge in before trying, althought i have a bunch of ideas for campagines and storylines for them, Nooooow then, down to the fun part. Start off at Level 1 with max HP. (Hit Points) No evil aligments. Free equipment is as follows: Backpack Length of rope (10 ft) Bedroll Flint and Steel Seven Days Rations A Full Waterskin One Outfit of clothes (appropriate to PC class and race, listed in Character Guide) A dagger or knife One weapon (as per Class restrictions) You may add personal items, so long as they don't add to or effect your character game-wise (Aunty Aggie gives you an amulet of protection +8 vs undead, who explode when they come within 10 feet of you, IS OUT!) (i.e. an inlaid scrollcase, a silver charm, a small book of verse, an ornate fruit knife, etc) What I need from you all is: Character Class: Bodger(arcane mechcanik if bodger cant be taken by human, not going for the arcane mechcanik first up if i dont have to, since i've heard its a BITCH to play) Race: Cygnaran human hick(its burns!) Name: Jackson"Jack" Gyllen Age: 27 History: (all this is subject to chance, if anyone happens to see me writting tomorrow there's a fair chance i'll be writing this :P) Jack from the youngest age has been an adept at mechanika, disaseembling engines and household devices around him at the eariliest oppertunity, this led to speculation of him being a "gear witch." and around the age of ten, dispite the protests of SOME of his family, namely his sister and father, he was throw out of his hometown of (somewhere in the middle of bum****nowhere cygnar) He was picked up by a travelling caravan of trollkin who, in the pre-leto screwing them over days picked up the young Jack, and headed off to one of the bigger cities (probably corvis, but whatever fits) Where he became a member of a low level mechaniks guild. Eventully due to infulence of a slightly corrupt noble, the head of the guild was murdered, after going through all of the aviable people up for the running to take his place, Jack eventully got persuaded because, he was kind of niave, and young was pushed into place. Unforntunatly being a little altruistic Jack stood up to the noble, and unfortunatly for him, that didnt sit to well. So one night after shutting up shop, Jack was jumped, knocked out and woke up tied to a chair, having no family to manipulate him with. They picked a young boy who was fairly new to the guild, and brougth him there and had by the time Jack woke up, lopped his hand off. and threatened to start chopping other bits of the boy off. Jack gave in to their demands, basicly screwing the rest of the guild over, He then set off and built the boy, who was rather pissed at him, a mechanika hand, and left town. family: A brother older, sister younger, mother and father. Not seen for a good seventeen odd years. still sends the occasional letter to his sister via the trolls. friends: Sethhan Traillooker, the leader of the trollblood caravan who picked up Jack and his two children, as well as assorted trollkin in the group. Jack occasionally stops by their Kriel and occasionally fixes what mechanika they have and enjoys their company. Rennan Gullie: A middleaged woman who works at the railyard in corvis(or shipping or whatever industrial yard thats city approiate) Whom Jack did occasional work on her steamjacks in exchange for money and certian "personal favours." life-changing events: being exiled, spending several weeks/months with trollkin, watching a young boy being tortured. Why are you adventuring: Travelling mechanik/bodger just looking for work and to keep from being involved, something of a "preservationist." Possitive Trait: As a worshipper of the ascendant of morrow, rowan(patron of the poor). Jack and the poor have good relations. He's often helping them out if needs be. Jack is for the most part, if you happen to be a lower to middleish class person a nice guy. Negative Trait: Pre-baised to anyone high class, money, or remotely related to nobility, due to incidents in his past. Any personal side-plots: He wouldnt mind getting even with the nobles who tortured the boy in his past. And any developments with his family since he's been away for so long, they could come looking for him , or reach out to him for help, he still has a great affection for his sister. One weapon: Large wrench or pistol, whatevers applicable Personal Crap: A pair of googles and monogoogle., toolkit, trollkin bracelet(worn as necklace.) thats my basic idea anyways, at the least it;ll probably go through a few modifications, as i'm going to try and write the background as a story, at least a short one anyways. I don't wanna be a killjoy, but any more than four gets slow and hectic. If we can start off with the four characters it'll be more enjoyable for all. It becomes very complex for the DM and very tedious for the players since everyone wants to do their thing, and then there's also 'down-time' when you decide on new equipment and have items made and talk to people to gather info, etc. This all takes up time slots that lengthen exponentially with each added player. I really want you guys to have a good experience playing this campaign and the one thing that makes it great fun is when you DON'T have to sit twiddling your fingers while the DM deals with each person's issues and wants. Again, I say, I don't want to exclude anyone, but it will be a better experience if we can keep the players to an average sized group. Especially having three new players, with many small rules questions and issues to deal with during each session. Bear with me on this. Thanks guys. |

Hi guys looks like you've got some great ideas going for the RPG. Cant wait to see you all 'in character' at one of the Vet nights. I'm not about for the next one (although I might pop in for a few minutes at the beginning). Cheers! |
| Ask not the EldarVeteran a question, for you will get three answers all (probably) true and horrifying to know | |

"more than likely"? I intend to play if I have to travel through Urcaen itself to get there! Also, give me a moment, and I'll have the first part of my characters story down. Although she doesn't actually appear yet ![]() As an asidde, might I suggest that anyone who would join a later game, learns Warmachine or Hordes, as (as I have said on several occasions and probably will again in the future, much to SDs chagrin) these two games have a much simplified version of the D20 rules (sans equipment, levels, actual roleplaying, and D20s. Of course.) and it may be easier to pick up both rules and setting by doing this. Of course, settings change and this is only my opinion. I'm sure I'll get shot down if anyone disagrees

Story, part I: Gallonyir wrung his hands as he listened to the commotion in the room behind him. The balcony he was on overlooked a garden, full of reds and golds. This in itself would not have been uncommon elsewhere at this time of year. Indeed, this high in the mountains, little greenery grew, except for the hardy trees of the surrounding forest. A particularly high wail made him turn and take a step towards the door. No. No, they would call him if there was a problem. Slowly he turned back to looking at the garden. His gaze fell upon the Nyssiandria flower he and Sullelythria had planted when they first wed here, almost two centuries ago. Once a strong violet, less than a decade had passed since it had bleached to a pale lilac. Everything went silent for a moment before the keenest wail of utter anguish rent the air. Gallonyir lept to the door, flinging it open and racing inside. Gallonyir's cry of despair was followed by the crying of an infant, as the Nyssiandria withered and died. |
