Bite and Hold Play-test.

Captain. Relic Blade. Jump Pack. 155pts.
Dread Assault Cannon. Fist. Extra Armour. 130Pts.
2x 10 Man tactical squad. 340Pts.
5 Man terminator Squad Cyclone missile launcher. 230pts
Land Speeder typhoon. 90Pts
945pts.

Cassius 125pts.
2x 10 Man Tactical Squad. 420pts
2x Land Speeder Tornado's. Assault Cannon. Heavy Bolters. 180Pts.
2x Predator. Autocannon. Heavy Bolters. 190Pts.
1x Predator. Autocannon. Lascannon Sponsons. 130Pts.
1045pts.

Deployment.

Defender deploys all 3predators in zone 6. Spaced evenly.
2 Speeders in 5 to the right flank.

1 Tactical Squad, split into a Lascannon Team and a melta team via combat squad. in 4.

Cassius and a 5 man combat squad with the plasma team behind in the other on the left flank.

Attacker all units deploy in zone 1. Dreadnought. Captain and Terminators on the left. Two full 10 man tactical squads in the centre and the Typhoon on the right.

Attacker turn 1.

All units move forward. The Dreadnought, Terminator Squad and Captain advance on the first objective. The tactical squads move up behind to provide cover. The Typhoon moves forward ahead on the right flank.

Shooting Phase.

The Dreadnought, Terminator squad and Speeder all fire upon the Combat squad containing Cassius on the first objective. All that is left is Cassius on one wound. Tactical squads out of range so just ran.

Assault Phase.

The Captain assaults Cassius. The Captain lands two wounds but he saves them both with no reply. Combat is drawn.


Defender turn 1.

Movement Phase .
2x Tornado's Move forward.

Shooting phase.
All 3 Predators fire at the Typhoon. It explodes and is placed in reserve(Wave attack rule) The Tornado's are out of range. The Plasma team behind Cassius open fire on the Dreadnought. The Plasmagun does nothing and the cannon, missed but killed 5 guys in the 10 man tactical squad. The Lascannon team take a pot shot at the Dreadnought and miss.

Assault Phase.
The Captain lands another two wounds and Cassius saves again with double 4! Fails to reply.


Attacker turn 2.
Movement phase.
Wave Attack/Shattered Rule. Typhoon Returns.

All units move forward. Typhoon moves to engage Tornado's.

Shooting phase.
After 4 Krak missiles from the Typhoon and the Cyclone Terminator the Tornado's both exploded. Nothing else shot dreadnought engages Cassius with the Captain.

Assault phase.
The dread and Captain both wounded Cassius but didn't kill him, he fails to reply. (my dice don't like assault!)


Defender turn 2.

Nothing moves.

Shooting phase.
The Lascannon team fire at the Typhoon. It gets wrecked. The Plasma team and the 3 predators all fire on the terminators. None are left. Plasma did a lot of damage.

Assault phase
Finally Cassius goes down to a shot from the Captain's Relic blade.
With the assault won. The Attacker obtains the first objective at a vital time.


Attacker turn 3.
Wave attack/Shattered.. Typhoon and Terminators arrive and deploy in zone 2.

The Terminator squad reappears on the right flank this time headed straight for the next objective. Two combat squads stand in there way. The Lascannon team and the melta team. The Typhoon and Captain also advance on the combat squads. Tactical Squads just keep moving forwards providing cover. The dreadnought stays on the left and piles in to the remaining combat squad that side.

Shooting phase.
The dreadnought kills 3 out of the 5 combat squad with rending shots, the speeder and terminators kill 4 out of the 5 Melta team with missiles and bolter fire.

Assault phase.
Dreadnought charges in. Kills one and is now locked.


Defender turn 3.
The remaining Sgt. of the team moves towards the Captain with his Combi-melta. The other combat squad and predators don't move.

Shooting phase.
Predator fire at the terminators killing 2 the Lascannon team immobilised the Typhoon and the Combi-melta melted the Captain.

Assault phase.
Dreadnought wins combat. Moves forward.

Attacker turn 4.

Wave attack/shattered. Add Typhoon to reserves. Captain re-emerges. All gunning for the next objective and only 6 men in their way!!

Shooting phase.
The tactical squad and dreadnought fires on the lone Sgt. The terminators fire on the Lascannon team. The squad loses one guy and the Sgt. is rended.

Defender turn 4.

No movement

Shooting phase.
The Lascannon kills the Captain. The 3 predators only manage to shake the dreadnought.

Attacker turn 5.
Wave attack/Shattered. Captain and Typhoon back in.

Movement phase all aimed for the next objective. 4 men guard the way this time.

Shooting Phase.
After 34 bolter shots, 6 Krak missiles 1 guy holds the objective. Nothing in assault range.
The attacker can't buy another turn.

Defender turn 5.

Nothing Moves.
The 3 Predators all fail to hurt the Dreadnought and the last remaining guy with the Lascannon missed.

True the game ends.

So all in all its a very good game. Only one question really came up. If you have a unit on an objective in his control zone and the unit is wiped out but no one around do you keep that zone. I think it says you do. Other than that its starts of very well for the defender you just keep pummelling away, but when key units slowly get whittled down it takes it toll.

This is damn good fun being the attacker you feel like an ig commander just throwing troops in to get what you want. I loved it.
Z6, Z5 and Z4 are the defenders at the end. No scoring units near any of those objectives other than 4. So I believe they are controlled by the defender. Because the Second objective was captured Z3 became no man's land. So the the attacker has Z1 and Z2 meaning the defended wins by 1. Amazingly.

Just for a laugh. Even though the points were not even. The defenders did 810pts of damage to a 945pt list. The defender were left with 3 predator tanks and 1 man. Painful mission.

So when we play the big game Saturday. Me and Andy will start well then we get overrun I kinda look forward to it. Ha-ha I should be a games tester. Oh Kev another thing 4 turns may kill of a game if the attacker doesn't get there.

Sounds like it was quite a close run test game, am looking forward to it next week, the mission should really reflect our armies, the tyranids an unrelenting tide against the imperial guard and astartes refusing to give an inch of ground

yeah i am realy lookin forwerd to it to! looks like a good test fuzz sorry i couldent make it! will post my list in a couple of days jmoore after some confering with fuzz but you should exspect at least 1 punisher! B)

Even though I was playing solo, there were points in the test that I thought oh god here they come again. I do defence well so it suited me. It may be why the attacker didn't win the test. Also I was using Vanilla Marines. So sides were even and I knew every weaon to use at the right time. The shifting tides rule was awesome. Range becomes less of an issue when the atacker gets more ground.

I look forward to it. My list is very much defence line. I'll post it up in a mo. Don't worry James I didn't spam Whirlwindwinds. Though am taking Cassius hes a tough old boot who deosn't like nids.
