Hi all and welcome to my first ever Warhammer fantasy battle report!

First of all could we have a separate folder for battle reports in the Warhammer forum to keep these all in one place? I know that Mike has also done a youtube bat rep too linked on the forum. I am hoping to get more of these up as the campaign goes on to entertain and to look back at my own mistakes!

So to the battle, this was my first game against ogres and Sheps first game of fantasy! The army lists were as follows;

Nicks mountainous hunters;

Slaughtermaster Lore of Maw, iron fist, Opal Amulet, Gold sigil sword (Initiative 10)

Butcher Lore of Beasts, iron fist, dispel scroll

Core
6 Ogres standard and bellower and extra weapons
8 Ogres FC and iron fists
5 ironguts FC ironnfists

30 Gnoblars, trappers

Special
2 x 1 sabretusks
Gorger 90

Thundertusk 250
Giant 200

And my gunpowder mercenaries;

LORDS
Slaughter master, level 3 lore of the great maw, glittering scales, fencers blades and dispel scroll.

HEROES
Bruiser, BSB, heavy armour, great weapon, dragon helm and crown of command.
Firebelly, level 1 lore of fire.

CORE
6 x Ironguts, full command, standard of discipline.
11 x ogre bulls, full command.

SPECIAL
Sabretusk
Sabretusk
6 x Leadbelchers

RARE
Giant

To keep it simple we went for the battle line deployment and the aim of the game...... to smash and eat everything!

For magic, I got fireball on my firebelly and on the SM, Spinemarrow (stubborn), Bullgorger (+1 S) and the Maw.

For Nicks magic he got wyssans wildform and the amber spear on the beasts butcher and on the SM, Spinemarrow, Trollguts (regen) and the Maw.

Deployment ended up looking something like this;

Both fairly central, with sabretusks on each flank, we roll to see who goes first and I win so start moving.

James turn 1
I shuffle forward my ogre units and giant and the sabretusks go wide on each flank trying to stay out of charge range of his tusks. Magic, fairly uneventful, I make the giant stubborn and thats about it! Shooting, the leadbelchers pepper a sabretusk and kill it causing 3 wounds and no charges were made so no combat.

Nick turn 1
No charges are declared, the gnoblars march up with the ironguts and thundertusk behind, his other sabretusk moves in front of my giant to taunt him and the bulls/giant move up behind the tusk to support. Magic, he gets trollguts on the gnoblars everything else is dispelled. Shooting, the thundertusk fires his stonethrower at my bulls, missing wildly but the harpoon laucher has more luck and skewers an ogre in one shot!! Again no close combat.

James turn 2
I declare a charge from my giant at the lone tusk, he makes it like the champ he is! Other movement is more shuffling and the leadbelchers moving into range to blast the gnoblars! So magic, again I make the giant stubborn, everything else is dispelled. Shooting, I line up a ba jillion lead belcher shots against the gnoblars hoping to panic them and after the smoke clears 1 is dead! Damn that trollguts spell is annoying! In combat the tusk fails to kill the giant so in return the giant picks him up and puts him in his pants for a snack later..... Poor little kitty though I hear the best way to season a sabretusk is skid stains! The giant reforms.

Nick turn 2
The hunters want revenge on their dead gnoblar! So the ironguts issue a charge on the leadies and the giant declares a charge on my giant to see whose the big man! I choose to hold, the guts needing an 8 fail rolling 2,2 but the giant makes it in so we can find out whose ardest! Magic, amber spear kills 2 ogres, Ouch! Nick rolls like a champ when its D3 wounds! Shooting kills yet more ogre bulls with the stone launcher and harpoon launcher both inflicting lots of wounds and killing another ogre. Combat, giant vs giant, we both roll on the big things table and both get thump with club, pass an initiative test or take 2d6 wounds! I pass my test and Nick fails so my giant pounds his into the ground! We conclude that it was because mine had more paint on and that when Nicks is painted he will also be a champ!

More to come.......

So on we go with the battle report.

James turn 3
My giant, now feeling like a boss declares a charge on the flank of Nicks ogre bulls, the sabretusk charges the flank and the bulls charge the front. On the other side the Ironguts charge the Gnoblars, but lose an ogre to stand and shoot. I make all 4 charges and the iron guts manage an Ogre charge for extra impact hits.

Magic sees me making my giant stubborn again. Shooting and the leadies take 5 wounds off the Ironguts at close range. Combat, I only just win the combat against the bulls, with the help of my giant and firebelly mainly as everyone else rolled poorly, the tusk was drunk and rolled 3 1's to hit! So I win by two they fail their leadership and I run em down. Another irongut dies to the gnoblars, damn those gnoblars are hard! I win combat though by millions but the gnoblars get away and I run straight into the tusk.

Nick turn 3
He charges his bulls into my giant and makes it with an ogre charge and he charges his iron guts into the flank of my guts, also with an ogre charge! All charges are made of course as we are fairly packed in now. The gnoblar rally and reform and the gorger comes in behind my leadies on my side of the table. Magic this phase I believe Nick rolled 1,1 and not a lot happened other than some iron guts being stubborn. No shooting as most things are in combat. So combat my giant takes some wounds from impact hits, he is down to 3, then Nick rolls like 700 hits on him so I think here we go, game over giant, but he only gets 2 wounds, result!! My giant is now bellowing 'come at me bro' and smashes an ogre to pulp in return. I make my leadership test and we stay in combat, the giant is a beast! On the other side my Slaughtermaster challenges and Nicks champ accepts, we knock 7 shades out each other but are both still standing, a couple of ironguts die each side but I make my stubborn ld test and stay in the fight.

More to come........

James turn 4
I forget to charge my tusk into the flank of the ironguts so move to the rear instead, my bulls reform round and my leadies swift reform to face the oncoming gorger. Magic, I make the leadies stubborn because I can. Shooting, and the leadies blow the gorger straight back off the board with exactly the right number of wounds. Combat, the giant finally goes down after having one hell of a game and the bulls reform to face my bulls, the ironguts continue to smash each other in and the SM finishes off Nicks champion, I lose combat but again make my ld test through stubborn and the bsb.

Nicks turn 4
The gnoblars move to sit between our bull units, and thats all she wrote. Magic, nothing goes off and at this point me and Nick are both wondering why we packed dispel scrolls in our lists! Shooting sees the gnoblars take a wound off my bulls, and not much more. Combat and the thundertusk stamps on my bruiser and freezes my last irongut! my Slaughtermaster takes a couple of wounds off his SM but loses combat and fails ld. He runs, like a girl but is fortunate the irongut unit don't catch him!

James turn 5
Not a lot left now the tally has been high on both sides! I charge the gnoblars with my bulls, and take a wound from the trappers. My SM fails to rally, the wimp that he is! The leadies fail their swift reform so cannot fire this turn. No magic as my SM is fleeing (disclaimer: we looked for a ruling on casting magic when fleeing but could not find one, we said he couldn't as it seemed more sensible he couldn't concentrate on casting if he was blubbering and running for the hills but a page ref would be handy?) Also no shooting as my leadies only re formed and not the swift kind!

Combat, the bulls killed all but two of the gnoblars who get away, the little scallywags! And I overrun into Nicks ogres.

Nick turn 5
Nicks guts charges my fleeing SM and the thundertusk charges the leadies, all charges are made so my SM is cut down in a hail of great weapons! Combat and our two ogre units knock 7 bells out each other I win but Nick makes the ld like a boss and stays there, the leadies and thundertusk cause 3 wounds each and tie combat, we call it there as Nick has a lot more points remaining on the board and its getting late.

In summary my mvp - The Giant!! He was just fun even though his damage output wasn't epic funny things happened round him.

Thanks for looking.

Great write up. I enjoyed reading it even though I was there.

The Gnoblars were worth their weight in gold for getting in the way and killing a handful of big'uns. The numbing chill from my Thundertusk had quite an influence since so much fighting went on next to it.

Yeah I thought your thundertusk performed really well, as did the gnoblars, 30 was a nice unit size for them as 10 would get steamrolled too quickly in combat.

Being t3 really makes the difference when wounding them too.
