Current Night Info

The shattered corpse of a dormant city slowly stirs as life seeps back into it. It is a place where seeds of redemption now take root while a timeless struggle for supremacy begins anew. Beneath the rotted shell of the city, under the desperation and despair, lurks untapped power. Multiple factions of Kindred (and others) vie for control, and that power impatiently waits for those ambitious enough to grasp it. Welcome to St. Lawrence by Night

We are currently at maximum player population and will not be accepting additional players into the game until further notice.

Routine Feeding

In an effort to streamline the mechanics of feeding and to remove the need for needlessly lengthy threads focused solely on a topic as routine as your regular vampiric sustenance, the act of routine feeding will be handled by a roll. The results of this roll will determine the consequences of your efforts to feed (positive/negative/other), then you can carry on with the actual roleplaying in your active threads, which is what we're all actually interested in.

Please note, this is just for regular, routine feeding. It is an optional method of feeding. No player will be forced to feed this way; it is merely offered for convenience and efficiency. The assumption is that your character has a pretty good idea how to feed itself under normal circumstances. If you want to roleplay every attempt at feeding, that is certainly up to you. If you wish to feed beyond this single nightly roll during the course of the night (perhaps you have to burn a lot of blood during the night for some reason you didn't expect and need to replenish yourself in the midst of your narrative), you certainly can, but that will need to be actively roleplayed in a thread.

Additionally, Herd will still function as normal and provide 1 nightly BP for each point you have in Herd. This occurs at the beginning of the night. This is still valuable, as you will see below, you might not always be able to count on this nightly roll for a steady income of blood.

So here's how this works:

Once per night when you character is not actively engaged in another activity (so at the start of the night, during downtime between threads, if his thread finishes up before the night ends, etc.), you will be allowed to make one roll. There is no hard and fast rule as to where this roll must take place, but it must be on the forum somewhere. I might recommend doing it in your personal forum or your haven. The roll's dice pool will consist of 1 Ability and 1 Attribute (like usual), though the specific combination will depend on your character's chosen method of hunting. Choose from the list below to determine which approach to feeding you want to use for this particular night.

The difficulty for all of these rolls is 7 by default, though the ST has full discretion to adjust this difficulty for a given roll on a case by case basis. Have a particularly gnarly feeding restriction? Maybe the difficulty goes up sometimes. Have something that would give you a significant edge to perform once of these feeding gambits? Maybe the difficulty gets lowered. The Storyteller will tell you if the difficulty is something other than 7. If not? It's 7.

When assessing the results of the roll, each success will replenish 1 of your missing Blood Points (up to a maximum of 3). Failing this roll means your character was unsuccessful in their hunt and was not able to acquire any blood. This failure will typically not have negative consequences, but it could if the ST so chooses. Even successful rolls could result in something you didn't intend. Such consequences are unlikely and will be dictated solely by the situation, though in general, successes and normal failures will typically not result in tragedy for your character. If you botch your hunting roll, however, a thread will be made to cover the potentially devastating fallout of your actions.

These are the current options you can use to perform this routine feeding:

Physical

Meeting in the Alleyway

You hide within the shadow of the alleyway that you have chosen this night. The city bustles around you, unaware of the predator that lurks inside of it's veins and arteries. Because make no mistake; you are a predator.

Roll Stamina + Stealth (DC 7) to remain still and wait for a passerby to walk down your alleyway.

A Crash Course in Feeding

You don't have time to waste on hunting. Instead, why not let your meal come to you? Step into traffic when there is a single car in the road and when they rush out to see if you're okay - punish their compassion.

Roll Stamina + Athletics (DC 7) to step in front of a vehicle and not be killed (again).

Quick and Dirty

Sometimes you don't have time to be subtle. Sometimes you're hungry and just need to find sustenance quickly, without pretext. You find someone alone, grab them tightly, and sink your fangs in, fleeing before they can recover and figure out what just happened to them. They'll hopefully think they got mugged, if you're lucky.

Roll Strength + Brawl (DC 7) to just plain grab someone and bite them on the neck when no one is looking.

Blood of my Enemy

You are a warrior. A creature of might and fury lurking beneath the facade of humanity... aren't you? Prove your dominance. Lure a few rowdy young man into a brawl. Once they've been beaten, you can drink freely from your spoils.

Roll Strength + Intimidation (DC 7) to incite a brawl... and win.

The Hunter's Gambit

It is the thrill of the hunt that you desire. The fear inside your prey only makes their blood that much sweeter.

Roll Dexterity + Survival (DC 7) to stalk your target until they are alone and you can smell the fear in their sweat.

Here, Kitty Kitty

While it may not be ideal, you can feed from animals when you need to. A few quick snacks from some small ones that no one will miss? Sometimes that's just what you need.

Roll Dexterity + Animal Ken (DC 7) to get close and snatch small animals so you can drain them.

Social

Mona Lisa

Who could resist your moon-kissed skin and blood red lips? Certainly not a mere mortal. Show them what it means to be lustful, give them ecstasy with just... one... kiss.

Roll Appearance + Subterfuge (DC 7) to attract a suitable meal in the club.

Mating Dance

An object in motion tends to stay in motion. When your body gets moving, people notice, and when people notice, there are always at least a few who want to be a part of that dance... and more. Once you bring them into the pattern of your gyrations, it's a relatively simple matter to show them that your merits extend all the way to your body, not just its motion.

Roll Appearance + Performance (DC 7) to attract a dance partner who will probably get close to you, and that proximity inevitably leads to intimacy, which should lead to their blood exiting their neck.

Whispering Sweet Nothings

Whisper honeyed words into the ear of your prey, make them feel adored and desired, and safe. Let them fool themselves with such notions while your lips caress their throat.

Roll Charisma + Expression (DC 7) to lull your target to a state of compliance... and then eat them.

Damsel in Distress

"Yes, right over here. That's where my car broke down. I'm really in a tough spot, thank you SO much for your help. It's so cold out there, I thought I was going to freeze to death. Yeah, right across this alley here."

Roll Charisma + Performance (DC 7) to trick your target into thinking you're vulnerable when clearly they are the ones in danger.

A Masterful Deception

To some, lying and double talk comes easily. To others, it has replaced the need to breathe. All you need to do is find a mark, convince them that you're someone with authority, perhaps an undercover cop, and explain to them that it's in their best interest to come with you. Fun Fact: it's not.

Roll Manipulation + Subterfuge (DC 7) to ensnare your victim in your impeccably constructed web of lies that ultimately ends with your fangs on their throat.

The Awkward Situation

Nobody likes to be excluded; there is safety in numbers, after all. By influencing the people around you in subtle (or not) ways, you draw attention to the flaws and social gaffes of an individual, then leverage that to single them out among the crowd, nudging them until they ostracize the victim of your scrutiny. And once they are socially (and perhaps physically) alone, perhaps you will give them a sympathetic ear, or perhaps you will be one of the bullies who drove them away, or perhaps you'll just work rumors and subtle innuendo until your prey is trapped in a corner of social isolation where you can safely feed from them.

Roll Manipulation + Etiquette (DC 7) to effectively place someone in an awkward social situation that separates them from the rest of the human herd, leaving them open to your tender ministrations.

The American Dream

Modern society in America is extremely consumer-driven. A person's worth is often measured by his net worth and the things he has, rather than the quality of the person he is. When presented with a good opportunity for financial gain, people may take risks they wouldn't otherwise take.

Roll Manipulation + Finance (DC 7) to tempt someone into exploring just what they might be able to acquire if they'd just listen to what you have to offer... a prospect that might make them distracted and more willing to trust you, giving you the opening to take what you want.

What Would You Do For All This Money?

People need things. People want things. And how do they get them? A lot of times, they use money to get them. And how do they get that money? They work for it. They borrow it. They steal it. They do things they wouldn't normally do with people they wouldn't normally associate with. Money makes people do strange things.

Roll Manipulation + Resources (DC 7) to use the promise of money to coerce someone into letting you try something special with them that they wouldn't normally do.

Mental

A Shadow on the Wall

There are few pleasures more delightful than that of being a part of another's life. Walking their halls and enjoying the family photos they lovingly place around their home. Of course, this is only amplified when they're sleeping and have no idea who you are or what you're up to in their home.

Roll Wits + Larceny (DC 7) to break into an apartment and drink from your sleeping target.

The Patient Hunter

You follow your target for several minutes. Maybe even half an hour. Longer? It just depends. But regardless, you observe them over a long period, always remaining just beyond their awareness, and then when the time is just right, their attention diverted, no one else around to witness their isolation, you slip from the shadows of obliviousness and claim your prize from their veins.

Roll Wits + Stealth (DC 7) to stalk your prey and strike when they least expect it. They'll never know what hit them.

The Lab Rat

You are immortal, and as such, have a wealth of experience. You are also a practiced predator, so you know just the right way to find and exploit prey. They tend to behave predictably. You are much, much smarter than them, and it shows in how easily you can predict how they will react in various situations.

Roll Intelligence + Empathy (DC 7) to use your insight into the human animal to know just how to interact with them in order to get them at your mercy.

Mastermind

You understand the pathways of power and how one might manipulate it to his or her own ends. Your end, as it happens, is sweet, sweet blood. All you need to do is dangle a carrot here, maneuver the right people into the right places at the right times, and before long, you find yourself alone in a room with the idealistic intern. He just wants to be part of something bigger, and now, in a way, he will be.

Roll Intelligence + Politics (DC 7) to analyze the political landscape and pluck its strings so that you end up getting the blood you so desperately need.

There, That One

Sometimes you can find just the right target for your thirst rather than waiting the right situation to come along. Sometimes you can just tell when you look at someone, you know? That guy on the street. That woman getting off the bus. They just have that look about them, like they're practically asking for you to sink your fangs in. Maybe some of them DO actively hunger for the ecstasy of the Kiss. Maybe they will after this. In any case, your discerning eyes pick out someone who's just begging to be bit (whether they know it or not).

Roll Perception + Empathy (DC 7) to spot easy prey amidst the backdrop of the oblivious modern night.

Know the Signs

Is that a lost little lamb you see over there, or is it an undercover cop? Or maybe it's just a bitter street walker looking for one more John before she can pack it in for the night and hand her pimp the money so she won't get slapped around (or worse). In any case, you know how the streets work; you know the signs to look for. The desperate, the scared, the disenfranchised, the lost - they all have certain patterns when they're out and about on the streets of the city, and you've learned them well. So well that you can usually pick the real prey from the wolves in sheep's clothing.

Roll Perception + Streetwise (DC 7) to make discerning choices about who would be easy prey to satiate your hunger.
