Current Night Info

The shattered corpse of a dormant city slowly stirs as life seeps back into it. It is a place where seeds of redemption now take root while a timeless struggle for supremacy begins anew. Beneath the rotted shell of the city, under the desperation and despair, lurks untapped power. Multiple factions of Kindred (and others) vie for control, and that power impatiently waits for those ambitious enough to grasp it. Welcome to St. Lawrence by Night

We are currently at maximum player population and will not be accepting additional players into the game until further notice.

Adjustments to Herd

Other editions of the game handled Herd a little differently than the V20 book calls out, and for our format and style of game, the alternative method works a little better. So, that said, this is how Herd works.

When you wake each night under normal circumstances, you automatically gain blood points equal to your Herd rating. This is intended to represent a ready source of blood that you have access to on a regular basis. This is typically going to take the form of a group of mortals who for some reason or another are willing to let you feed from them, though it could also feasibly be another source, for instance animals or a blood bank.

In any case, you only get the nightly blood points from Herd when you might feasibly have access to it. For instance, waking up normally in your Haven? Sure, we can assume that you stopped by to visit a part of your Herd and had a drink or two or five before you got going for the night. We just handwave it and assume it happened.

If, however, you wake up in the basement torture chamber of your rival and you've been there for a couple days? You probably aren't getting that blood from Herd because there's no good way to narratively explain how you would have gotten access to it that night. If you mange to escape later? The ST may decide that you get access to some or all of your Herd and allow you to get some blood, in that case.

Generally speaking, the higher your Herd rating, the more blood you have access to, and the more freely you can feed from it without risk of damaging the supply.

The V20 book suggests the following numbers of vessels in your Herd, but these numbers wouldn't support the mechanics here:

●○○○○ 3 vessels
●●○○○ 7 vessels
●●●○○ 15 vessels
●●●●○ 30 vessels
●●●●● 60 vessels

That said, I don't want to nail it down too specifically, but in general, these are the ranges we are using for Herd, assuming we're talking about willing adult mortals as vessels:

●○○○○ 5-10 vessels
●●○○○ 10-25 vessels
●●●○○ 25-50 vessels
●●●●○ 50-100 vessels
●●●●● 100-200 vessels

Don't think of this like a computer game where as soon as you get 11 vessels, you're safely in Herd 2 range. Just play the game, grow your Herd the way you want to, and when you reach a good size organically, you and the ST talk and maybe you get that second point of Herd. This should be something that happens, even if you drive it, not something you unlock like an achievement.
