Without a doubt, the Volturi were my favorite part of the book!
:P I've always had kind of an affinity for the villains... They're always the ones who are "misunderstood", "misguided", and generally insane. They make the best and most intricate characters, imo. So I was looking forward to meeting their bad selves. Aro just tickled me to death. I laughed at just about everything he said. He's my sekrit underground lovah!!! :D And I hope I'm not the only one who appreciated his humor. The rest of the Volturi are just so eerie, and I would really, really, really like to know more about them. Caius and Marcus are just perfect to balance out Aro's zaniness, and Alec and Jane are just so creepy. Then you have Heidi, who didn't make much of an appearance... But all those people!!! Totally creeped me out, that. I also loved the two guards, Felix and Demetri. I reckon it's one of 'em in my sig. Anyway, am I the only one who liked them? Aww... you know you do! |

I liked them.. Jane and her "power" scared the hell out of me, though. |

I was like..."Finally, some action!" (other than Bella trying to be all suicidal/crazy, which got old) The Volturi meeting was awesome. Oh...and the cattle call of people, yuck. Did anyone catch Bella saying, on page 488, I shuddered. "How can she want that?" I whispered, more to myself than really looking for an answer. "How can she waatch those people file through to that hideous room and want to be a part of that?" And then... Edward didn't answer. His expression twisted in response to something I'd said. Well, we know what he responded to. Is this Bella's way of sub-consciously saying that she really doesn't want to be a vampire and Edward notices it? Maybe Edward is more perseptive than we give him credit for. Subliminal messages are powerful things. Whether Bella recognizes it or not, she just asked how could the receptionist want to be a vampire? I know she was talking about 'human drinkers' but maybe there is more than meets the eye to her consciousness, and Edward's. Hmm... <_< |

I noticed that. I was practically yelling at the book "But you want to be a vampire! You /idiot/!" |

yeah, Bella wants to be a vampire, but not one like the volturi. she can't belive why this secretary wants to be one of the volturi, who murder people. and maybe Edward got this wrong. he thinks that Bella has an actual aversion to vampires, but wants to be one just because of being with him BUT Bella just doesn't want to be a murderer. |

So where does that leave Bella? Bella wants to be a vampire, just a vegetarian. Yet, look at Jasper. He still struggles. Would Bella view him as one of them (like the Volturi)? Edward's done it, too. So when she says, "How can she want that?" What is she really saying? Hmm...leaves room for many things, I think. |

I think that she wouldn't see Jsper as one of the bad guys, cause he does not want to kill humans, he struggles to fight the urge. |

I don't know, I think that Bella thinks nothing differet of Edward or Jasper because they don't do it constantly. But I don't think she's really put thought into the whole of becoming a vampire. Because, really, she has to realize that somewhere along the road she might /have/ to drink from a human, if there are no other animals around, and it will stop her from masacreing the entire town... |

Making Edward Say "Bella Who?"

Did anyone else notice how Bella's power didn't make sense? If her thing was "immunity", and the vampires there couldn't read her mind either, or twist her body in pain then.... why could Jasper control her emotions, as her did in Twilight? I mean, I can understand why Alice could still see her, because she wasn't really... manipulating Bella's body in the process of seeing a vision of her but Jasper certainly did. Do you think... Stephenie messed up? Or, has someone already asked Stephenie about this? I never go to the Lexicon, so I might be asking a question she already answered, and I just don't know it... ;) |

Thats actually a really good question. ------- On the subject of the Volturi, yes I liked them a lot. I thought it really helped the book out in the action depart. Some things changing and actually happening. |

Chihero, I was wondering the exact same thing... It makes no sense that it works fine on Jasper and Alice, but not on Aro or Jane... I mean, I could maybe see that it just didn't work on Edward, but... *shakes head* Anyway, Bella really hasn't thought it through very far... the whole becoming the vampire thing. First of all, it's not just a given that you can choose to be a human drinker or a Vegan. She seems to forget that the Cullens have to really work at what they do, and it's a lot, lot harder than what they let on. And if you're a new vampire, the urge is almost impossible to resist. Every one of the Cullens has feasted on human blood at SOME point, even Carlisle, when he's off changing people willy nilly. There's just no way to be a vampire and not be a...well... a monster. You can be a civilized monster and try your hardest to be good, but that doesn't disguise what you are. And that's part of where Edward is coming from. He knows the risks, the sacrifices that have to be made to be immortal. And Bella just covers her ears and screams, "LALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!" *lol* Mehz, anyway... Gianna (verdad?) was very interesting... I wonder if she's in love with one of them? Probably not Aro, Caius, or Marcus (though I would LOVE for Aro to have a romantic interest)... but maybe one of the guards? "Wonderful!" :D |

From the entrance of Edward into Twilight he and I have always been on the same thought pattern, if you will. Normally when he says something or makes some sort of facial expression I can figure out what's going on because it's just so completely common to me. Or because I do the same thing. When Bella said that my first thought was "Oh my gosh, she really doesn't want to be a vampire." She asked how anyone could ever want to do such a thing but even the strongest of the Cullens had their moments where they became the predators to humans. Edward did it, Carlisle did, I'm certain that Esme, Alice, Rosalie and Emmett did too. (We already knew that Jasper did). There's nothing saying that it wouldn't be her sucking the life out of a human. Maybe deep down she knows that and she's afraid to become like the Volturi? |

I think she's not ready to really be a vampire yet. Her love for Edward is the driving force behind her want. But but therereally isn't a need to be one. |
