In general, it was awesome!! I was kind of worried at first about what the special effects would be like (the speed, strength, glitteryness) but it just totally blew my mind how they did it. Even the beauty of the Cullens looked perfect, especially when they first walked into the lunch room in the beginning. It just took my breath away. :) I also liked how James acted. I thought he was just perfect. And Victoria at the end really made me anticipate New Moon even more. There were a few things I didn't care for though: I thought Mike was too cocky, Eric too creepy, Edward too... forigen. (When he first said "Hello" I was like, "Oh, no, please no accent!!" But it worked out good! XD) And what happened to the meadow scene???? I was looking forward to that part and they just kind of tore it up and scattered it throughout. It made me a little mad. All and all, I can't wait till this spring to get the DVD and watch it again!!! *swoon* |

I loved it. It was just such gorgeousness and identical to the book and just... wonderful. I thought the first time he said "Hello" sounded weird not because of his accent but because of the obvious strain of his just sitting next to her. He was fighting the urge to kill her. So that's how I took it, and I thought it was adorable. Jacob's bit at the end made me excited for a sequel. His staredown with Edward was made of epicness. |

Accent, strain, or not, it sounded weird. XD But I still loved him. <3 Quick question: When Edward drove Bella to school and everyone was staring at them, (and Edward in his fancy schmacy sunglasses :)) Bella said something like, "Everyone is staring at us" and then Edward said something, but I don't know what it was. All I know is everyone was laughing and I was like "What did he say?" It's driving me nuts!! I thought Charlie was absolutly hilarious. I lol-ed at things he said all the time. Bella: I have a date with Edward Cullen tonight. He's outside and wants to meet you. Charlie: *snaps gun shut* Bring him in. *tear* hilarious. |

At that part, Edward said, "That guy's not staring... Oh wait, now he is." ^^ And it was adorableness. |

I thought it was something like that!! LOL! That's funny... *sigh* I also liked how they made Steph appear in it. I was sitting there eating popcorn, then they showed her and I was like, "Woh! That looks like Stephenie Meyer!!" |

I thought it was WAY better the second time around. I mean, I was still giggling hysterically at the fake running up the mountain and stuff, and Carlisle having to pry Edward off of Bella at the end to prevent him from killing her REALLY made me mad still (that is SUCH a HUGE departure from the book...he was supposed to love her so much that he didn't care about sucking her blood now, hello!). And I didn't like the lack of sufficient sparkle and meadow scene. But I love love loooooved the prom scene, and the Cullen's house scene, where they're making Italian food (har har). I felt that most of the scenes captured the mood of the book GREAT! And what is with Emmett standing on the back of jeeps all Rambo-style? That was too funny! |

I LOVED the sparkling. It was exactly how I saw it in the book, but more gold-ish colored. I pictures it more of a crystalline glitter... The only thing that really bugged me was the leaping. It looked a little staged, but it was still good. The running was great, though! I loved Emmett's line in the Kitchen "Her name is Bella". That made me crack up, and them him waving the knife around! Perfect! And I so want to know WHY we didn't get a still of the flashback looking scene of Edward biting Bella! Or whatever it was supposed to be, because that little 'flashback' thing was pretty cool... |

I was actually very pleasantly surprised in this movie. I didn't have very high expectations from seeing the trailers and having some less than friendly opinions about certain actors, but I actually really like it. There were some moments that felt kind of lame (for example: the biology class where Bella enters and the fan blows her hair and Edward goes all "oh my god I want her blood" the whole audience broke down into suffocated giggling) and it could easily have been half an hour longer - that would have added some more depth to all the characters (the cullens were barely in there!), especially James that just sort of showed up and turned into this very psycho without any actually explanation. I'm a big Jasper (and Jackson Rathbone) fan, so I was a bit disappointed he (and the other Cullens) didn't have bigger parts in the movie, but I think that they all did great, they really worked their parts during those few on-screen moments. I thought the family moments - Bella meeting the Cullens and Charlie and Billy feeling like coold dads - were great, everybody really felt as if they had know each other for ages. The most awkward parts, I felt, were the once wher Edward/Robert and Bella/Kristen had to do their "book-lines" (like "so the lion fell in love with the lamb" - i just didn't feel it), and I was a bit bummed about the fact that they didn't have "you're exactly my brand of heroine in there". I'm actually going to see it again with my sister (who hasn't seen it) and one of my friends who went with me and completely loved it. Well, that was long... I liked it, all in all. Looking forward to New Moon! |

Ah, the book lines. The lion and lamb one was kind of awkward, your right. I was sitting there quoting it and didn't get the feel of it at all. *shrug* And the kryptonite and radioactive spiders wasn't nearly done well enough. But I was so happy that they had the "How long have you been 17" in there. I laughed endlessly at that in the book. In the movie it was just a bit creepy though. Aw well, I'm satsified. :D I also thought Edward was more funny in the movie than he was in the book. In the book it seemed like he didn't know how to use sarcasm. In the movie he was doing it all the time. Also, Bella wasn't near mad enough when she "broke up" with Edward and was screaming at her dad... wait, screaming? She wasn't screaming at all. I was hoping for some right out screaming and anger. |

I absolutely loved the movie--I have basically nothing to complain about. And I think that it's because I come from a perspective where I don't care if Bella cooks or not, and it doesn't really matter whether she was wearing stilettos or not. I mean, the book is still the best, but... The little parts weren't a big deal to me. I didn't want the movie to be the book translated onscreen. That would have been boring. I got the same feeling from the movie that I got from the book--with a new flavor. The thing is, when you watch a movie that's based off of a book, you just have to let go of that basis. I know it's hard, but a movie is a lot more fun when you're not sitting there expecting a whole page of dialogue. I feel like there are a lot of people out there who are pitching fits over the fact that Edward's clothes weren't right, and Bella didn't weep or wail with every line. So, yes. I am going to go all defense of the movie ninja on all of the main complaints. Kristen Stewart's Acting I related to Bella because she wasn't being all dramatic over everything. I'm the kind of person who doesn't really freak out over that much, and I feel like Kristen was playing Bella in a similar way. She wasn't a drama queen, and considering the fact that Edward was a drama queen, that balanced it out. Think about what the movie would have been like if Bella was freaking out as much as Edward did. I felt like he had more of a reason to be dramatic--he understood the impossibility more. Bella only melted when things were big, like in the hospital and prom scene. Robert Pattinson's Acting He made Edward flawed instead of creepily perfect--and basically embodied my Edward in the process. It was amazing to watch scenes that I loved being translated so perfectly onscreen. Enough said. Bella and Alice's "Lack of Bonding" Dude. They don't really bond in Twilight. You can tell that they will be friends, but they barely speak. It's not until New Moon and Eclipse that we really see that friendship develop. I mean, I don't remember many touching moments between Bella and Alice in Twilight. None that were essential, anyway. Special Effects Am I the only one who just... didn't care? I came for the story, not the CGI. Give me the relationships, give me the heart, and that's all I need. Most classic movies were made back in Ye Olde Days Before Special Effects. Gone with the Wind, anyone? I feel like we rely on CGI to save a movie too much these days, and it's kind of pathetic. Think of the recent Beowulf--it was like one being video game. Gag me. |

I agree...but I think that doing stupid special effects is worse than none at all. I didn't like that they even tried to do special effects. I thought it was stupid that they had all the jumping and fake running fast. They didn't jump on top of trees in the book, they just ran fast, and couldn't that just have been using faster film speeds instead of harnesses and fake running? It just looked silly. You know you've kinda lost the feeling when the whole audience is giggling. I didn't have a beef with any "details" like what people were wearing and all that stuff, because I agree that the mood was captured great. Like I said earlier though, I did have a problem with major departures from the book like Edward "almost killing" Bella at the end. |

But... Wasn't Bella out of it the entire time Edward was drinking her blood? Yes, Edward stopped, but we don't know how much of a struggle it was for him. Carlisle didn't have to pull him off in the movie--he told him to stop, yes, but for all we know, he could have done the same thing in the book. It's definitely in the realm of possibility. I think that it would be unrealistic to have Edward totally untempted by Bella's blood while drinking it--and they needed to express that fight in a visual way, since it is a movie. I think it showed more of his love that he was able to pull away while being tempted so badly. It would have been too anticlimactic--in a film, at least--for him to just take a sip, let go, and be all "Well, there ya go" after a whole two hours of angsting over Bella's blood. It could be argued that if he loved her enough he would be untempted completely, but that just wouldn't have worked. That was actually one of my favorite parts, because thoughts of Bella stopped him. Special effects... I'm fine with what we got, mainly. There was no giggling in either of my showings, and I think that most people aren't really the experts on filmmaking. We don't know what the options were with Twilight, but we do know that it was low budget. Speeding up the film may have looked far worse. They worked with what they had, and I think that people should be happy with what we got. I would rather have bad special effects than a play-station 2 type thing. |

OK. So i feel like I'm the only one who didn't LOVE it...It's not that I hated it... I actually thought it was pretty good especially for something as big as Twilight and we all know the movie is never as good as the book. But I had some issues that stood out for me and I'm going to try to voice them without people jumping on my back and killing me James-style. Here goes.... (I'll start from the beginning ...hopefully my brain works): I thought the first parts were great. Really really great. I loved it when the Cullens entered. That was fantastic. The first biology scene....OY. K.. Edward's expression when he smelled Bella cracked everybody up. Every single person was giggling hysterically including myself. It just looked so fake and funny (I'm not sure if that was the intent...). The Meadow scene was just a huge disappointment for me. I won't get it into it-but that was my favorite part in the book so it was a let down. The Port Angeles scene was great. Truly fantastic...the restaurant scene was not at all how i pictured it but it worked, i guess. One of the worst parts for me was when Bella had to leave Charlie and pack up her things and everything. It felt to me like she was trying to act as if Bella was trying to act (does that make sense?) I think the drama in that scene should've been hyped up as much as possible, tears and all instead of the dullness that it was. Ballet scene was really good. Loved everything about it....Except: theoretically, why couldn't Carlisle suck the venom out from Bella? In the book, he is working frantically over her cuts and leg but in the movie he's just kind of sitting there. ....The hospital scene. For me, the worst part in the whole movie. When Edward tells Bella that he should leave her, Kristen's acting made me cringe. It felt, to me, like bad improv. The prom scene/"almost bite" and dancing was wonderful...although I was kind of looking forward to the Cullens and Edward showing off massive skills on the dance floor :$ What really bothered me while I was watching the movie though, is that people were laughing throughout the entire thing. Which I think maybe downplayed the love-story aspect for me. These are just my first impressions and I just felt like laying them all out here. I'm sure they will change when I see the movie again with perhaps a less critical eye. All in all, i must say they did a great job. I can imagine that Twilight is a very difficult book to translate to screen and they did wonders with what they had to work with. WOW :o Congratulations if you read all that. *facepalm* sorry! Edit: Oh, and the kiss scene has to be one of my favorites. :D Edited by kateandpookie, Nov 24 2008, 12:59 AM.
